Gohan's Intelligence
When Gohan fought Cell, he was consumed by power, and turned into a little version of Vegeta; he was reveling in it. It wasn't about stupidity, it was that he became somewhat morally corrupt for that small period of time, with all that power he wasn't prepared to have.
Against Buu, he didn't kill him right away because, if you recall, he sensed Dende was still alive, and like Vegito had hope that the others were still alive, somewhere down there.

That is stupid. If Dende was still alive, everyone could easily be revived. Every second that he didn't kill Buu increased the chances that the planet would be destroyed and Dende would be killed.mAcChaos wrote:Against Buu, he didn't kill him right away because, if you recall, he sensed Dende was still alive, and like Vegito had hope that the others were still alive, somewhere down there.

I say he was 9 or 10. The numbers add up to 10 (or possibly a little under 10, since it was only eight months between Nameck's explosion and Nameckians leaving Earth). But he is referred to as being 16 when he starts high school in the manga, and the battle with Cell was seven years ago. The only way that works is if he's very close to 17 at that point, and ROSAT doesn't count.

The Buu saga starts 7 April 774. Thus, it's roughly seven years since Cell, but actually not quite. Also, Gohan's birthday hasn't yet come up this year. If we don't consider the Room of Spirit and Time, he's 16, a month away from turning 17 (or 17, a month away from 18 if you do count the room). So that still meshes with my numbers, provided Toriyama wasn't considering the room (and with his forgetfulness, he probably wasn't).TripleRach wrote:I say he was 9 or 10. I meant when he fought Cell... I told myself, "I'll switch to teen Gohan when I turn 16". O_o But I'm just gonna switch now.Jerseymilk wrote:They wouldn't call you a pedophile for liking him when he's around 16 or 17 in the Buu saga, which is the point where I assume you like him from.Mochi wrote:I didn't know he was that young.Jerseymilk wrote:Well, even if you include the "year" that Gohan spent in the Room of Spirit and Time, that would only make him ten in my opinion, since his birthday coming around a few days later, was just coincidental timing. It had hardly been an "additional year". And if you then take it from just the manga and not the anime, it would still be ten since, the birthday celebration is just filler for the anime.I can't like him the same way anymore, or my friends are gonna call me a pedophile.
Yes... I am... but you don't know that...

I agree with Rach. I've personally never paid that much attention to thr ROSAT.TripleRach wrote:I say he was 9 or 10. Uhm... yeah. You can also feel free to imagine your own state in between.Mochi wrote:I meant when he fought Cell... I told myself, "I'll switch to teen Gohan when I turn 16". O_o But I'm just gonna switch now.
You know what? Get a picture of him, stick it to a tree, and throw knives at it. You need to be able to defeat any opponent, emotionwise.

But Toriyama _doesn't_ state how old he is during the Cell Game, as far as I know. However, dates are given for a number of different things in the Daizenshuu, and these dates indicate that Gohan would be 10 or 11 (depending on whether you count the Room of Spirit and Time) during the Cell Game; and, as I already explained, these dates can also work with Toriyama's statement that Gohan is 16 at the beginning of the Buu saga, as long as the seven years between Cell and Buu were, in actuality, six years and eleven months. Since most people probably wouldn't bother to make the distinction between seven years or six years and eleven months, it doesn't seem like too great a leap.Gohan-kun wrote:Look, he's 9 during the Cell saga. Toriyama states he is 16 at the beginning of the Saiyaman arc. 7 years between Cell and Boo. 16-7=9
Maybe, although I'm not aware of any specific examples right off hand (except that thirteen months pass between Goku's death and his resurrection, but that might be a plothole, not a Daizenshuu mistake). If there's nothing in the manga that contradicts these specific dates -- and as far as I'm aware, there's not, since these dates can still mesh with Gohan's being 16 at the start of the Buu saga -- then I don't think there's any particularly compelling reason to disregard them.PsyLiam wrote:Doesn't the Daizenshuu get specific dates wrong on several occasions? Not that I don't find them interesting, but I wouldn't hold them up as an example of exact time.

I think what we have hear is a case of Toriyama-itus. Where he wasnt keeping up with ages he himself gave, and time between stuff, and he said 7 years later and gave an age without actually paying exact attention.
But if we MUST have a nitpicking what if it HAS been seven years and he was 10/11
Its possible that Gohan hasn't had his birthday yet. Want an example? Its been 23 years since I was born. But I'm 22 years old, not 23. Because my birthday is in June.
Its been 7 years since the Cellk games, yes, but thats not to the exact day its to the year, so Gohans birthday hasnt come yet is all.
