Definitely would've had Piccolo go cause 1) he'd feel responsible for making the Black Stars and 2) having him be a big player and affect the next gen IE Goten, Trunks and Pan who'd go with him would help inspire them to keep on training and make his suicide at the end even stronger emotionally. I mean really, if any arc needed to give Piccolo the star role its the Black Star one.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.
