Did Gohan really get the shaft?

Does Gohan get everything he ever wanted? Most certainly. However, the Cell saga and early Boo stuff build him up to be Goku's successor; Earth's new protector. Gohan's Elder Kai power up makes no sense unless he was meant to be the hero in the end. He was built up to be the hero, Toriyama seems to make this clear up until the point we get the complete cop out that is he Elder Kai's ability to transfer his life energy to another as a method of reviving Goky. So as some who felt he could relate to Gohan and as a fan of his character do, in that sense, feel he got the shaft because Toriyama builds him up only to tear him down.

thats because Gohan sucks....i think it happend like this ..Toriyama wanted gohan to be the next hero, but because gohan is a shity character the producers and certain people around him did tell him ..hey akira ...u now ...gohan ..he sucks. stay with Vegeta and Goku this cry baby and book worm who dont like to fight is like the most shity Condition to lead a action packed series which DB is ...so they forced him to stick to the right thing.

Actually Toriyama said something like this,well not the way you did but he said he wanted him to be the main hero after Cell but decided that it didn't fit his character.

So it's not that anyone forced him,he just decided on his own that it wasn't a good idea and thank god for that cause it would have ruined the rest of the story if he kept Goku&Vegeta out of the picture.

I don't exactly mind that Gohan gets surpassed, it's the lazy and hamhanded way they do it. Goku and Vegeta training as hard as they possibly could for seven years only baarely surpassed Cell Games Gohan (and Goku was training without need to heal/eat/sleep/etc). Then another couple of years pass and they somehow gain so much power that nobody even cares that Mystic Gohan got beaten - even the 'narrator'.

Then Vegeta 'surpasses' Goku by stealing Gohan's rage boost gimmick, and Goku surpasses Gohan by stealing his Ultimate gimmick.

And now that we have Ultimate Goku...well, we better rip that away from Gohan so people don't get confused on how ~wondrous~ and ~awesome~ Goku is.

Yay my Ultimate Goku name is catching on....now to only have people say South Boo instead of South Kaioshin Boo or whatever they say
