Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Definitely, but as a fan you would still wish for more amazing new Batman stories, even if you didn't know what kind of exactly they would be.
Kamiccolo9 wrote:Obviously this is an entirely subjective matter, which is why I'm curious as to why you're arguing about it. One can be both a "real fan" and want the story to be over or not milked in perpetuity.
Not really arguing, more like curious about different perspectives here. Like you said, some would prefer for the story to end permanently rather than suffer through crap new material (even if there was a 'reward' good stuff waiting down the line).
I don't have any confidence that there is any "reward" of good stuff in DB's foreseeable future, is the thing. The whole zeitgeist now seems to be that everything I enjoyed about the series was a mistake.
I haven't enjoyed Batman, aside from the Arkham games, since the DC Animated Universe ended.
Obviously even just "might" is higher chance than "will not ever" if the franchise stays dead. As for Batman The Animated Series, you wouldn't get that if the franchise stayed dead after Golden Age or after live-action TV series.
I also wouldn't have missed it, had it never existed.

I know this is pretty off-topic already, but what about Under the Red Hood. That movie was actually pretty good in my opinion.

Five, actually. There is also Dragon Ball Heroes: Super Charisma Mission.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

You've come to this conclusion based on two movies and a 15 page one shot manga chapter?

Akira Toriyama wrote:My policy is to try and forget things once they’re over. Since if I don’t discard the old and focus on what’s new, I’ll overload my brain capacity. I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.

Victory Mission is technically on hiatus, but it could very well be dead in the near future. I certainly don't see Toyotaro coming back to work on it if he's going to be doing a continual Super adaptation. Not unless he is able to adapt to being able to work with a much higher page count every month and they toss him an extra assistant or two.

When they're heralded as The Return of True Dragonball Under the Original Creator, yeah.
And besides Toriyama, it seems like damn near everyone else has vanished into their supershonen nostalgiac half-remembered vision of Dragonball. See: that thread where people seriously thought Goku would be a good dad because he gave them the warm fuzzies, or Nozawa going "Goku is a friend to all~~".

If you honestly think the new movies, Heroes, or Kai are quality products, we have so little in common that no amount of words will sway the other.
Out of curiosity, what was your favorite thing about DB prior to its modern day revival? Favorite saga and such?
I'm not too fond of BoG, the modern specials, Heroes, Minus, and so on either. <.< I do love Kai dub though.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
