I'd consider him one on the basis of having saved the Earth multiple times. He could have destroyed it if he wanted to and been successful and didn't have to aid in protecting it but still chose to.

He is a brainless asshole in Super, they are making him really ignorant, in Z at least he knows what's going on, here it seems he has no idea about anything and only wants to fight.
To be fair he just obtained God powers and has been fighting/meeting people from alternate timelines and universes...who would really know wtf was going on?


On topic:

Everyone does everything for themselves...generally Goku is the only one who can save Earth and therefore if he wants to do it in his own selfish way I'm fine with that. He obviously fights enemies harder than friends/sparring partners. He believes in good...that is why he let Frieza live initially.
