You are mostly correct.

Buruma: Now we just need to get the conditions right for you; after that, you might even reach Super Saiyan 5!
Vegeta: Super Saiyan 5? Are you serious? You really believe that I could surpass Kakarot?

Anyway, I don't know how we got so off topic, but we should get back on.

Agreed.

As someone whose initial exposure to the Dragon Ball anime was GT, I had wished back when it finished airing in 1997 that it hadn't ended so soon. I'd enjoyed it immensely and was bittersweetly saddened that Dragon Ball as a whole had apparently come to a close, especially so soon after I'd discovered it. As a child at the time, I'd always hoped that, at some point, Toei would come back to Dragon Ball and fill in the 100 year gap of episode 64. Rather ironic that, nearly 20 years later, Toei (this time with Toriyama) does something very similar with Dragon Ball Super.

I honestly wish they'd written over GT. Not for the sake of getting rid of GT, I just want a better story for Oob. I loved the idea behind his character, I loved how his personality was the opposite of Goku when he was young. That's one of my biggest complaints about GT, they didn't expand on Oob, they barely expanded on Pan. They just stuck with the same ol' Goku. That works when we have Toriyama, who can maintain a steady tone with the cast that he developed. But they had new writers, they should have come up with new stories with new characters, rather than copy-catting earlier parts of Dragon Ball throughout.

Pan is the character with more potential as a character. She's the one with the personal connection. I just don't like Uub. There's nothing to expand on, he's just blah.

If we're only talking Oob and Pan from the end of Z, either one had limitless potential for character development. His character in GT was my problem, he was a totally different character. As far as Pan goes, I'd like to see here done better as well as Goten and Trunks. My reason for wanting more Oob is that he was clearly being set up as the hero of a new generation, something that GT utterly ignored, I might add.

Buruma: (She brings up schematics for the Bruits wave emitter.) Once we use this Bruits wave emitter, surpassing even Super Saiyajin 4 will no longer be a dream.
Vegeta: Surpass Super Saiyajin 4?! Buruma, when will you have it completed?
Buruma: Before the Earth is destroyed.
Vegeta: Nice work! (He crushes the canned drink in his hand.) Kakarotto, bring on your Super Saiyajin 4, or 5, or whatever you want! I'm still not finished!
Buruma: You sure are a battle-loving Saiyajin! But then, I'm still that Saiyajin's wife. (She winks.)
Vegeta: (Cue epic blushing.)
Yeah, okay, but it was just Vegeta saying whatever in that situation. It wasn't a hint about they having planned SSJ5.

Maybe it's a risidual grudge from the way Z ended, but I still don't think Uub had any potential as a character. Nothing about him made me think "I want to know more about that kid." And why would you think his character in GT was totally different? We just met him 2 episodes prior. Him being set up as the hero for the next generation isn't relevant for me as DB isn't a show about that. It's not about superheroes and passing the torch. It's about characters that love to fight.

I think the bigger issue there isn't foreshadowing or any arc of him turning back.

Bear with me, Goku turning into a kid sounds like a cool idea but only for a very short while.

There are no hints as far as I know of him turning back or no established goal.
I personally didn't mind this choice since Goku in GT is the most mature version of the character even when he's in his kid form but I can certainly understand why it bothered people.
Oh rly? Because I remember pretty well that he returned to his adult form at the end of GT when Goku Jr fought Vegeta Jr.

Yea I also like Goku in GT. I think it was great and unique idea to turn him into kid. It was clear that he didn't lose his maturity.

I remember when people felt like Goku act pretty childish and stupid at times in GT for someone who has a 50+ year old mind. Funny how people now look back GT Goku as a mature person now.

I honestly thought Goku acted more like himself in GT than Super, not too silly and not too serious.
