Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
An animated series is the biggest project a 'Dragon Ball Room' could ever be formed to create. The Japanese animated series is the quintessential marketing tool. What else is it going to create? Spin-off comics and games? Those are things to be created in tandem with a new animated series, not apart. The Dragon Ball Room is all about maximizing the marketing potential of their big brand, you don't do that by sitting on potential new animated series. Dragon Ball Super is still made mostly in the mold of a traditional battle series, rather than one specifically designed for selling merchandise like Pocket Monster or Yuugi-Ou! Creating a new series from scratch would be much smarter.

Yeah, but Super's doing well. It's not like GT.
I don't like the idea of replacing a series that's doing well. Especially if the replacement is blatantly merchandiser stuff.
I still think it's gonna be manga.

It makes no sense with new animated series when there is Dragonball Super with 12 universes it would be the dumbest decision ever
Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
Exactly! There's so much you can do with those 12 universes. I'm shocked they haven't done anything big with them yet outside of having Zamasu come from one of them.

I don't really see them replacing Super outright either, but I could maybe see us getting a secondary DB series that is much more merchandise focused in the near-ish future. Though I can only imagine how much more thinly spread the animators would be at that point.

If anything these new people would work on super and expand upon it with their ideas and stories.
Especially with the 12 universes thing.

They've only just started an international roll out for Super we know they're going to brand it out to the US in form of toys and the press release mentioned how a big hit the TV series is. Super is only just beginning.

Staff is extremely thinly spread, but ending Dragon Ball Super would resolve that, especially if Toriyama isn't interested in continuing anymore.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I don't really see them replacing Super outright either, but I could maybe see us getting a secondary DB series that is much more merchandise focused in the near-ish future. A second concurrent series isn't impossible, either. Production would simply have to start early. As in, episodes being key animated six months before they air. Constantly.

I'm talking based on how the new material has been and based on how similar franchises are handled.Saikyo no Senshi wrote: I wouldn't jump to conclusions before seeing the product. It could be better than anything Toriyama ever created or it could be worse, so we'll have to wait and see.

Hmm...actually, is it at all possible that a second series could end up animated by another studio altogether so as not to overload Toei any further? Or do Toei flat out own the rights to animated Dragon Ball that they'd be able to block such a thing from ever happening?JulieYBM wrote:Staff is extremely thinly spread, but ending Dragon Ball Super would resolve that, especially if Toriyama isn't interested in continuing anymore.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I don't really see them replacing Super outright either, but I could maybe see us getting a secondary DB series that is much more merchandise focused in the near-ish future. You're taking about Dragon Ball by way of the Pokémon anime.JulieYBM wrote:Staff is extremely thinly spread, but ending Dragon Ball Super would resolve that, especially if Toriyama isn't interested in continuing anymore.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I don't really see them replacing Super outright either, but I could maybe see us getting a secondary DB series that is much more merchandise focused in the near-ish future. I've read that's how the Pokémon anime is produced.
As much as I do like good animation, I wouldn't sacrifice Super along with Gokû and Vegeta just to see some other be character animated well. This is where I have to agree to disagree.
Ultimately I'm more invested in characters and story than I am in the animation. Not to say good animation isn't cool, it definitely is cool, but I've dropped well animated shows for their story, I don't drop well written shows for their animation.

Toei wouldn't give up rights as the main studio, but they could sub-contract a lot more.

I agree with Jacob Super ending would be great especially from a production point of view. Super shot itself on its foot with no pre-production and has been limping on since then with minor improvement. If Toriyama quits they might end it.
A new animated series with proper pre-production and stuff planned on ahead would be beneficial in improving the visual quality of the show and be a better watching experience. Although, unless Yamamuro goes the improvement wouldn't be that much but still I would be interested to see how it goes.

The brand of Super is a thing though and it's getting stronger by the day. Why would they wash that all away just cuz Toriyama doesn't want to work on it?Saikyo no Senshi wrote:I agree with Jacob Super ending would be great especially from a production point of view. Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
I agree almost whole-heartedly. I could potentially be interested in stuff without Goku or Vegeta at the helm, but story and characters are always going to be a lot more important to me than animation. Which isn't to say I don't want good animation too, but it's secondary to me compared to those other elements.Chuquita wrote:As much as I do like good animation, I wouldn't sacrifice Super along with Gokû and Vegeta just to see some other be character animated well. Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
A mindset like this is what causes Dragon Ball Super's downfall. The series is already an above average written TV show, but the animation has been a constant problem due to, as JulieYBM said, low number of talented staff and time. The writers, storyboard artists, animation supervisors and, key animators are all stuck on the horrendous schedule, all thanks to dumb move made by the production committee in order to fill the empty time slot left by Dragon Ball Kai. It's nice that there are a lot of good ideas for the new series, but they need to be both well written and animated in order to appeal to the huge fanbase.Chuquita wrote:You're taking about Dragon Ball by way of the Pokémon anime.JulieYBM wrote:Staff is extremely thinly spread, but ending Dragon Ball Super would resolve that, especially if Toriyama isn't interested in continuing anymore.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I don't really see them replacing Super outright either, but I could maybe see us getting a secondary DB series that is much more merchandise focused in the near-ish future. Toriyama certainly was close to stepping down due to these problems. In order to prevent that from happening again, a new series is needed.

Re: Shueisha's 'Dragon Ball' Room, New Department Focused on Dragon Ball
I disagree that a new series is needed, but I wouldn't be against Toei taking a break to get everything organized better for Super, animation-wise.
Something in the vein of how JoJo's takes a break after every arc, but still comes back later that year or next as still JoJo's.
I don't expect Toei to look like KyoAni, or Shaft. They're just spread too thin. The nicest looking thing they have right now is arguably that not-Precure anniversary magical girl thing they're working on.

I think that's due to it not being intended as a plot point.Chuquita wrote:Exactly! There's so much you can do with those 12 universes. I'm shocked they haven't done anything big with them yet outside of having Zamasu come from one of them.

Likely true. I was disappointed as I'm craving an adventure arc.sintzu wrote:I think that's due to it not being intended as a plot point.Chuquita wrote:Exactly!
