Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone will like that brand of humor. Liking it is not a prerequisite for liking the series. If I like Batman but can't stand his interaction with Alfred, am I not a fan still? Not everyone has to like Dragon Ball humor just because it's there. I'm sorry, but it's okay to not like things about even your favorite series. This idea that you have to like the humor to be invested in Dragon Ball is silly. There are so many other things to love the series for and it's actually refreshing when people don't pretend like they unconditionally love everything about a story.

No, not everyone will like that brand of humor, but the way it was phrased makes it seem like those that got into it because of the action don't like humor qua humor. Of course not everyone likes any given type. And while I get your Batman parallel, Dragon Ball's humor is always there. Even at the story's most earnest, humor is still inherent in its DNA.

Can I be considered a harcore fan? I dunno, but I will give my take on this anyway :D

I enjoy comedy in Dragonball, but I don't enjoy cringe..
69 even though I thought it was fine, watching it was cringy, real cringy..

I probably wouldn't have bothered to watch that episode if it was any other show than Dragonball..
That holds true for most of super too actually, I wouldn't have bothered to watch this if it weren't for the Dragonball effect I have in me..

After all I am the type of person who likes Dragonball and tenjo tenge level anime..
Stuff like run of the mill shonen isn't my cup of tea and super has a lot of those qualities in it.. even though it still maintains its Dragonball charm which gt lacked completely..
Alright, Enough rambling from me now..

Can you folks define "cringe" here? It's getting so ridiculously overused online that I feel it's lost all meaning.

When you "cringe" at the Dr. Slump stuff, what actually are you doing? What are you feeling? What are you thinking?

(To be fair, I recently said "cringe" on the podcast: it was in reference to Blue being portrayed as a pedo in the DB anime version's of the crossover. I'm feeling pretty fine about my usage of the word there. I think it's normal and encouraged to cringe at the suggestion that just because someone is homosexual means they're a pedophile. It's dangerous rhetoric spread by misinformed hate groups of the past.)

Probably an uncomfortable feeling, just sitting there and hoping it's over soon so you can move on. That's "cringe" to my understanding.

I mean, I know what "cringe" actually means, but I'm worried people are tossing it out there without actually knowing that and using it as a catch-all for "I didn't like a thing".

I think it's important for words to mean what they actually mean, and for a real conversation to happen here.

Agreed. I can't stand how the internet has changed the meaning of words like "cringe" or "triggered".

I felt that every DB little boy penis and random panty gag were "cringe-worthy," especially when watching with my mom or something. It felt unnecessary and I understand that it's just a gag, but I always felt that there could have been something a little more creative. This goes back to like 1999 when I watched Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle on VHS with my mom in the room and Goku is running around with his weiner out and my mom was in the room. She didn't say anything, but it was definitely cringe-worthy. It was like, "Come on already, move on."

But hey, I just don't like that brand of humor. I find it cheap. I don't laugh at "pee pee kaka" jokes and if it makes me less of a fan, then so be it. I just don't think that the majority of the DB series centered around it -- especially Z.

Humour was lost in DBZ. I liked the original series for its wacky comedy and thought that was what I was getting into.
