I know a lot of people like that game but I really hated most of it. A lot of the most obnoxious, worn out tropes concerning Batman were present full force and the Batmobile killed the gameplay for me.Lord Beerus wrote:Hey, I liked Arkham Knight. Would you watch a Dragonball show with no fighting or villains at all, just SOL?

When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I don't know. Probably not.
I'm more of an adventure guy, to be honest. Calm and peaceful episodes like some of the Gohan filler in the Saiyajin arc with a mix of adventure like tournaments and the like. I love the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd ones. I also loved the more Wuxia-ish stuff in pre-Saiyan Dragon Ball as well.

I can't say that I've played it, but from what I've seen, I'm not really impressed that much with what they did with Jason. "Under The Red Hood" did better with the character imo.ekrolo2 wrote: I know a lot of people like that game but I really hated most of it. Nah mate there is some truth in what you say but I can't agree completely,Jinzoningen MULE wrote:You're not getting it. It has worked in the past, that doesn't mean it's working now. Post-Cell DB had the same phenomena, its SoL far surpasses the actual arc. It's was also present in Toriyama's most plot-heavy work since Dragon Ball ended; Jaco, whose jokes are pretty much the only appealing thing. Battle of Gods, RoF, DBS, same syndrome. Do you get where I'm going? It isn't getting better and won't get better, not with a series so heavily based on Toriyama's ideas. His heart is in the comedy, not the plot.PsionicWarrior wrote:It's working in both DB and Z lol
Hopefully Super is slowly catching up lol
Since you take Jaco example I will address this point: I beg to differ he's the only appealing thing, take Beerus and Whis for instance, they are god tier characters (pun not intended) fulfilling both the action part and the SOL ones, and it just works, if you tell me these lads didn't give you a genuine laugh even once I can't believe you lol
Or same with Monaka really, I found him "beating" Hit hilarious, his entrance, his facial expression, everything from the scene, these characters in themselves are so Toriyama IMHO lol
Where I join your POV is that at first the spirit has not been really respected and some core elements misunderstood by the production (or whoever is responsible) making many many moments of DBS a miss on that aspect, especially in the early arcs and the period you mention, even if we also had some truly awful moments even in the FTrunks arc (Goku says hi lol) where the blending was just awkward leading to an execution yet to be desired as such lol
Another thing I can't agree with is you saying it isn't getting better, serisouly, how dare you say this while we just got fresh from the oven this FANTASTIC Arale episode which felt nothing else but genuine, compare it to Pilaf clumsy scenes and gimme a break lol
Not sure what you mean by saying Toriyama's heart is only in the comedy, while he does write the plot too and clearly also puts his heart in it lol
Re: Would you watch a Dragonball show with no fighting or villains at all, just SOL?
I think a short 26-episode spinoff anime just showing the slice of life moments of the Dragonball cast would be fine. Obviously not a 50-100+ episode series, but a short 26 episode series would be ideal. Each episode would focus on someone new.
One episode would be Krillin and his family, next episode about Gohan at his job and his family, then Yamcha and Tenshihan, then Mr. Satan, etc.

I know you weren't talking to me, but I thought that I might respond to some of your points, since I had some thoughts on some of them.
Honestly, none of that made me laugh. It just wasn't funny to me. I mean, the Beerus and Champa stuff was ok, but wasn't anything that I'd open my mouth and flat out laugh out. It's rare that I even smile at it. It's the same with Monaka. I'm just not getting the "hilariousness" of it. I can certainly see that being where it's trying to go, but it's alright I guess.PsionicWarrior wrote: Since you take Jaco example I will address this point: I beg to differ he's the only appealing thing, take Beerus and Whis for instance, they are god tier characters (pun not intended) fulfilling both the action part and the SOL ones, and it just works, if you tell me these lads didn't give you a genuine laugh even once I can't believe you lol

Honestly, I didn't find it all that fantastic. It's enjoyable somewhat and better than some other episodes of Super, but like I said before, I don't straight up laugh at it.Another thing I can't agree with is you saying it isn't getting better, serisouly, how dare you say this while we just got fresh from the oven this FANTASTIC Arale episode which felt nothing else but genuine, compare it to Pilaf clumsy scenes and gimme a break lol

I think these worked perfectly in the DB series because they were like a breath of fresh air. It was alleviating that after 20 episodes of fighting, there'd be a few that are light.

I think this is close to how I feel. I think downtime episodes work well as a nice little breather. Sometimes they can even add a nice pinch of great character moments, like in episode 43 of Super. This of course is to say nothing about how invaluable downtime episodes are for the production side of things, so that helps me to appreciate them even more.TheGreatness25 wrote:I think these worked perfectly in the DB series because they were like a breath of fresh air. All that being said, I don't think I'd want an entire Slice of Life series. I don't want to say it could never work, but if we're talking about stuff in the same ballpark as most of Super's slice of life episodes, then I could only see the novelty of it appealing to me for a one arc series at best. I mean, I'd eventually watch it because I have zero shame, but I don't think I'd be all that engaged in it or worry too much about keeping track of it.

I think a one or two cour series could work. Most of the SoL and comedy series that I like are around that length. If KyoAni, Yamada Naoko to be more specific were to oversee the project then it would be perfect, but I think the Toei staff can also do a good 26 episode SoL series. I would definitely watch it.

Probably not...i like SOL episodes but i dont really care how the job is going for Gohan on a day to day basis. Id much rather Super learn to better integrate the SOL that is needed.

you bet. I'd love to see more of the side characters.
it'd be nice to see something like that happening concurrently with Super.

If they take gag direction in a very straight manner, Yes, I would totally watch it.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.
