Vegetto or Vegerot

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Kaboom, I completely agree with you there. That summed it up nicely. :)

Oliver, at this point, I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree. What it comes down to here is that you take English spellings from merchandsing and etc. (including things written in the show and manga, such as the "Bulma" on Bulma's shirt) as credible, while I don't personally, and I don't think we're going to change either of our minds here. :P

It's not just that: I don't see any real "con" to the pairing Kakarotto / Vegetto.
One could indeed assume that the final "to" is extraneous, but that would just be that: an assumption. "Kakarotto" is a possible spelling. And we would have "Vegetto", a name that actually looks like a fusion name. It would work. Far better than "Kakarot" and "Veget" (??).

The fact that official merchandise uses the spelling "Vegetto" simply brings water to my mill, really.

I prefer "Kakarot" - it sounds more alien than "Kakarotto"...and my habit of spelling/saying it that way isn't going to change anytime soon (if ever).
Just Saiyan...

But you see, since I don't personally think the merchandising spelling of "Vegetto" holds any merit, I don't find the remaining evidence convincing enough to show that it's intended as non-extraneous, so I still agree to disagree. ^^

Considering that "tto" is extraneous more often than not, my first inclination would be that it's originally intended to be a "t" unless something else indicates otherwise (like you're areguretto example, allegretto is Italian, so that indicates otherwise; Kakarotto is more English based). But I think all that's miniscule enough to sacrifice if you want it consistent with Vegetto and want the name combination to be apparent... And that sums up my opinion.

Anyway, I don't want to carry this much further; it's not really going anywhere, and pretty much everything's been said and done about the alternate spellings of both names already.

C'mon, is everyone really that desperate for something to argue about? Here's the plain and simple truth, without going into anything about all the deep, comlicated intricacies of the Japanese language.
  • "Kakarotto" is a play on the word "carrot," so most people who dub/translate the series to English translate it as "Kakarrot," or some similiar spelling. It's what makes sense.

But this causes problems with Vegeto's name, since it depends on that extra "-to," which with "Kakarroto," is by logic extraneous when translating it due to the nature of the word pun.

FUNimation seems to have known that changing his name wouldn't go over well, so they simply left it as "Vegeto" (or however they spelled it). Viz, on the other hand, took a bit more of a creative angle to the problem with their now-infamous "Vegerot" (which isn't too bad a name, IMO). Neither were 100% right, but neither were really wrong in their choices, either. (Though it would have been incredibly easy for Viz to have simply kept "Vegeto," with an editor's note in the margin explaining the name. Meh)

If you ask me, any "fault" in the issue lies with scanslators and fansubbers from years past for getting us used to him as "Vegito." If for almost 10 years before FUNi got to him he'd been translated and become known as something like "Veget," which seems the most logical choice for an english pronunciation, then it wouldn't have ever been an issue, and Viz wouldn't have seen any need to get creative. Or, dare I say, had Toriyama possibly anticipated such problems, he might have given Vegeto a different name to begin with.
Nothing more needs to be said. End of thread, please.

If people really wanted to get particular about this, they could just call him "Bejito"....or they could use what SSJ Kaboom posted quite clearly and use what else is also a perfectly correct name...

As has been said, it's simple.
