I didn't pay mind to Dende's line, since I don't really think of "piss" as a dirty word.

Actually, I was referring to a pre-evolved Primape. Because they annoy me.

No offense, but it does annoy me how someone says something like this every time an "offensive word" conversation comes up. "Oh, I don't find 'shit' offensive", "I don't find 'fuck' offensive". I mean, we've got someone in another thread saying that they don't find 'cunt' offensive, ferpete'ssake.

It's not a matter of whether you personally find it offensive, it's whether society has deamed it offensive. And, really, you'd have to be pretty daft not to know that "piss" is not a word that gets thrown around in kindergardens.

I tend to watch dubbed first and go to sub second - its easier to get the general gist of something in your native language first and when you have that going into another language can be allright too. However about 90% of the time I find both casts kick ass and by nature of being an english speaker first I'll go dub mostly just because all things equal its just easier to watch than to read - nothing wrong with subbing just an easier experience to just absorb it and if they're equal in my eyes I go for the easier experience. If I spoke fluent Japanese I might be a little more mobile on that - not that I never watch subs, far from it sometimes I just feel like the Japanrese cast and go that way. Shows like this inclue Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hackusho, Berserk, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and Gundam Wing.

then theres 5% of the time where the dub kicks the subs ass to kingdom come. Sometimes the Japinese cast is bad for this, and sometimes its just a matter of the English cast outperforming the Japanese one - either way this is a rarity in my bag but it still happens - Slayers and Trigun are on here for me. In Slayers' case the Japanese casst is pure AWFUL - I can't stand to listen to them for more than 5 minuets - they can act certainly (well I'm not so sure about Lina's Japanese VA but the rest can at least act), but damn they all sound annoying as hell, wheras the English cast seems to fit the characters like a glove, and acts very well - I've had arguments on thios one but hey its my opinion. Trigun, the Japanese cast isnt bad at ALL really they do a good job, but the English cast just does a BETTER job on everything.

And then theres the last 5% where for whatever reason the English dub sucks so much ass that the only course of action is to go sub only. The biggest one for me on this list of course is DBZ - and I dont think I need to explain why on a DBZ messageboard. Other examples of this are Mega Man NT Warrior as the English version is called, its just got a reallllllllllly bad english dub, I did have fansubs for the show before thenglish version was announced and I'll buy the english only DVDs for legality reasons but meh, the english dubs horrible.

You think Megumi Hayashibara is an awful Lina Inverse, but you're willing to listen to her in Cowboy Bebop? I'm afraid I find that odd. :?

Wendee Lee's Faye is, well, a thousand times better.

(I don't have a clue who Wendee Lee is aside from that role, but I looked it up. Heh.)

She's probably the busiest North American dub actress around currently. Did a lot of Digimon voicing.

Hm.

Well, I'm not big on remembering English VAs. Seiyuus give me enough trouble as it is.

I can deal with Bebop subbed but I tend to watch it dubbed due to making it easier so I havent really TRIED the bebop sub very often.

and yes, she is a HORRIBLE Lina Inverse. Although she beats the ADV Lina Inverse I'll say that. Course considerign ADV's Lina sucks crabcakes thats not saying much.

I don't care for Slayers as a show, either way. The english voices are just obnoxious. As for the Japanese version, I've never seen voices completely miss mouth movements so very much, be it the animators not caring to draw even remotely realistic mouth movements or the voice actors screwing up. With other shows I'll give some slack, but it just looks like every character is either possessed or a ventriliquist dummy, which would explain why no one really moves that much in a single shot.

It's too wierd for me. Nevermind the fact that when one person is speaking, everyone else FREEZES and waits for their turn.

And the Trigun and Cowboy Bebop dub casts seem to have much more personality than their Japanese counterparts, barring one or two characters, maybe.

Every anime dubbed for the WB or Fox networks will be awful. They're marketed towards children, and therefore MUST HAVE INFINITELY HORRID DIALOGUE THAT'S LIKE CANCER TO THE EARS.
