Although GT wasn't a masterpiece there are some things I love about it. I think the mistake most people make with GT is that they see it as just Dragonball Z : 2, which it clearly isn't. Like "Z" is different from the original Dragonball, GT is different from Z.

I just love some of the new designs like with Trunks, Gokuu and Uub, but equally I resent others (yes, my turn to bash the moustache). The original score is awesome and the selection of music is even better (Field of View <3).

The biggest bone I have to pick is the way which Pan is represented. I hate her existence, she brings nothing to Dragonball - and neither does Gill. I also don't like the lack of 'fan-service' and the way some characters like Tien, Yamcha, Krillin and Choutzu are just forgotten or phased out, not to mention how the B******'s killed Piccolo, I mean - I think I pooped a cat when he died like that, it was the ultimate kick in the nuts for a Piccolo-fan. Don't get me started on the "Everyone-all-go-super-saiyan-for-5-seconds-and-get-beaten-down-in-one-swift-burst-of-light-and-music-or-are-stopped-by-Gokuu-before-they-do-anything-awesome-damnit" As I've been there before, and everything goes red and that's not good.

I think if anything I see GT as just a missed opportunity because the story lines could herald much more than they do in the final product. Don't get me wrong - some of the concepts are still interesting though. It's just a shame they made a hash of 'Baby' (he could have been used so much more efficiently - really).

Would I have rarther there have been no Dragonball GT? Hell no. Do the producers need shooting? No. Should I have replaced the writing team with myself? Yes.

Good day to you sirs'!

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Well I hate Goten's GT design because he looks more like Gohan's twin than Gohan's younger bother by eleven years.

The selection of the music is good though.

Yeah, that's sucks also, the fanservice and the humour relating to that was great in Orignal and Z, and so were Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Kuririn and Piccolo.

So what if they weren't Vegeta, that still didn't give Toei a rihgt to make them into extras and two murder victims.

That's pretty much why I hate GT.

Field of View was awesome, but I’m gonna take this opportunity to mention my absolute favorite; Zard (R.I.P. Izumi Sakai  ). Don't You See was such an amazing song, one of the best to hit the DB franchise as a whole, and another in a long line of slam dunk hits for Izumi-san. All the songs for GT in general were top drawer stuff.

The only thing I would comment on further is the much often maligned 'stache for Vegeta; I think that it was intentionally stupid looking. The producer's certainly seemed to be in on the joke, as it's often poked fun at within the show itself by other characters as I recall. And it gets shaven off very quickly. I think that much of the outrage expressed over it can be more or less distilled down to reactionary Vegeta fanboys who take the character's "badass factor" entirely too seriously. But that's just my take on it.

Otherwise I agree with basically everything you said, especially the part about GT being a "missed opportunity". Everything that was there in the finished product was of good enough quality; but it was just "good enough" when it could have been much, much more. There's plenty of room to ponder what might have been; but that's not reason enough to just trash the whole show outright as utterly worthless IMO, as there was certainly an element of that endearing quality found within the series itself as a whole that allowed GT to sort of coast on.

Faint praise to be sure, but it is what it is.
Why thank you kind sir :P

Point taken with the moustache thing, but I think the confusion probably lies in people who take it seriously. If I think back to the first time I saw the first episode of Dragonball GT my eyes were throbbing with disbelief and confusion to how different it had been from its forerunner - so I guess I took the moustache seriously (the same way I was taking libruarian Gohan seriously, haha).

On a slightly unrelated note - I found a youtube user who is adding Faulconer's Dragonball Z score to GT in place of the Porno Jazz which Funimation currently has landed on it. And I have to say, it's highly watchable! It's supprising how much it helps and changes the whole complexion and drama of the series. Then again... the Funimation dub never really bothered me, as where I live (England) we got the Blue Water Studios GT dub which kept the original score.

You would be more accurate to say that GT is a bad publicity stunt. Trying to connect with a diverse fandom is one thing and adding shitty rap and raping established characters are good indicators of somthing. It's the whole "a 9 year old every chingado minute" thing plus the ghetto thug shit. GT asks that.

Dan Dan to me is definitely one of the Best songs out of the whole series. The very first time I watched any dragonball in Japanese was when I bought a GT DVD a few years ago. I loved the theme song, so I kept watching. Its very possible that Dan Dan is the reason I'm a subbie(hopefully RAW soon) fan now!
