Justin Chatwin and James Marsters to star in live-action DBZ

WHERE?! I read that paper everyday at work. I want actual physical undeniable printed proof.

He (Gohan) is weaker. He has the fighting spirit of a wet noodle soaked in water until it barely resembles a noodle. A pebble is tougher than Gohan, because you could conceivably trip on a rock and stub your toe, while Gohan would yield like so much melted pudding. Vanilla pudding. Because he's too pansy-ass to have a strong flavor if he was pudding. Pure water has more flavor than hypothetical Gohan-pudding.

Well, at least it says "Dragonball" and not "Dragonball Z".

No, you didn't shatter an illusion. Yeah, noone in the world looks like Goku, but that guy? There are plenty of other actors that are more alike Goku than him.b_boult wrote:This post is just wrong. You don't care about the acting at all? The guy isn't "goku" enough for you? What do you expect honestly with whoever plays his part, you're not going to find an actor made of black outlines with a tail coming out of his buttocks. This guy if anything, is a pretty good type cast considering the circumstances, and looks about as good as you could hope for. No one in the real world looks like Goku, sorry if I've shattered an illusion here.Godo wrote:I dont give a damn about if they can act or not. It's scary that the guy playing Goku doesn't look like him at all.
Let's take this picture that QD posted:

This is ridiculous. They can't possibly make a Goku out of him.
Plus, how much advanced acting is there in Dragonball? Sorry for shattering your illusion that Dragonball has the acting class of the Hamlet range.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We might not even get to that point, but I see what you mean.tinlunlau wrote:Since Stephen Chow is producing this, I vote Lam Tze-Chung as Majin Buu.
If you think about it, he's such a shoe-in for the character. He played Stephen Chow's chubby sidekick in "Kung Fu Hustle".

I think Marsters would be a lot better off using his normal American accent. He kicked ass as Lex Luthor in Superman Doomsday with it. (In his defense, at least his English accent is a lot better than Boreanaz's Irish accent. >_O) As a Buffy/Angel fan, I guess now I'll be watching this movie for something besides morbid curiosity.
As for Chatwin, I've only seen him in War of the Worlds, and he was alright in that, I guess. He doesn't exactly scream Gokuu for me, but then there's only one person in the world who does, to me... [Insert bad photoshopping of a certain elderly lady dressed in orange.]
But I think the sudden churning out of this after so many years is a combination of both the strike (which, yes, has been expected for a long time; I've been hearing about it for months myself) and the success of Transformers. "Hmm, Paramount made a financially successful movie based on an 80's action animation property? I think we have one of those lying around... Let's clean up and finalize that old script before the strike."

The Piccolo guy was perfectly cast. I dunno about his acting abilities but I'll be damned if he isn't the spittin' image of Daimaou without makeup. Ignore the Piccolo to the left. He's playing Daimao. That's IGN being uninformed.

And Chatwin was...well he wasn't annoying the mere two minutes he was in LOST and I don't remember hating him in WotW even though he played the dreaded 'spiteful teen'. His acting almost oozes Goku's personality to the T but...a white guy as Goku is kinda strange.... I don't care if they're Japanese or whatever, but...it's just kinda odd -_-;
That and the entire 'unpopular at school' idea doesn't sit well with me.
OTHER THAN THAT, it actually sounds like a great setup for a film and an even BETTER setup for a sequel. It's not too ambitious and it could lead right into probably one of the tightest arcs of the DB series.

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Just for those unfamiliar-
This is a sclip from the last season of Buffy. Spike, who has a mortal soul, has been going insane because of the newfound guilt (among other things). And this is the scene where Buffy finally figures out what happened.
I just thought this scene was superbly acted by James.

Eh, I always thought those shows were ridiculously retarded so I'm kinda biased against the acting..

Agreed. I honestly thought that James' work in the last two seasons of the show merited some sort of recognition in the form of an award, but alas it never happened. So much of a better actor than Boreanaz ;pOnikage725 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25tStiTSPNI

Somehow, I get the feeling there's going to be more Buffy fans going to this movie than Dragonball fans.
Seeing as how they're going for a simplified plot (I mean Dragonball is surprisingly complex for an old kids manga series) I'm guessing the concept of the two Piccolos would be too confusing and they'll take it out somehow. Probably by either having the Piccolo in this movie be Piccolo Jr. from the start or by letting it be Piccolo Daimao but not having him spawn a reincarnation just before he's killed.Sorry if this was already answered somewhere, but will they be using the original Demon King Piccolo or just skipping ahead and using Popular Piccolo?
I can definitely say "HELL YES!" to that.I ONLY want this movie to be released if this will lead to a Dragonbox and Perfect edition of the manga being released in America.
