I noticed that too. I thought I was just seeing things.

What I find even wierder though, is the Black guy that's staring at Videl and drooling while she's talking to her watch-phone to the cops. I'm not even trying to joke - watch the movie, there is an African American watching her and drooling. Why? :?

Hey, I'd stare and drool at Videl. :)

(And Gohan, and Erasa, and Sharpner, and Future Trunks, and Teenage Goten, and Teenage Trunks...)

LOL, true enough, I just thought it was kinda odd. :)

Heck, I'm kinda afraid to admit it since there's a lot of hatred towards her, but I always kinda liked Pan.

Quite a few scenes in the dub were handelled well, I can't remember many off the top of my head but Gohan's power up from Dai Kaio Shin was maybe a bit better than the original.

I don't mean the callousness of the remark, I mean the joke.
I agree - I just watched the Ginyu episodes in Japanese off my DVD last night, and the subtitles got stuck in the English version rather than the translation (I had noticed it seemed a bit off when Freeza kept mentioning the left hand thing and I only heard the words 'hidari te' once), and that line happened to be among them - the whole 'where do I come UP with this stuff?' thing that warrants a comical cymbal clash completely demeans the situation and is not even remotely like Freeza, who, in the original, is as polite as can be while uh...dismembering Nail horrifically.

This too, was my favorite line in the dub. It is damn funny I crack up whenever I see it.

My favorite dub line has to be in Movie 12 when the oni is telling all the souls to get in line for the soul clensing machine. "Let's try to keep hell beautiful!" Both the delivery and the line are great.

Hope this isn't too far away to be necro-posting, but I would have to say I prefer that the dub and re-dub had Raditz inform them about Nappa and Vegeta's strength as he was dying rather than when he was kicking thier butts. Gave more of an "Ah Crap!" feel to me.

Oh, I just thought of a good one. I'm basing my comparison on the Manga though not the JP Anime as I've never seen the JP Version of this scene (I assume the JP Anime and Manga match though).

When Majin Buu is trying to absorb Vegito and is preparing his Hesd Tentacle for absorption. In the Manga, you can tell that Vegito is already planning to be absorbed by what he is thinking ("C'mon think of it"// "I thought he'd never think of it"). Then says "Force Field" while getting absorbed. The Dub however kept the audience in suspence by getting rid of all those thoughts and replacing "Force Field" with "Blast it" (in other words having Vegito put on an act). Great way to go on FUNi's part as it kept the audience in suspense...esspecially since the Episode ends there.

I don't know that dub Vegetto was putting on an act in that particular instance. We knew from at least the first Super Vegetto episode that he had it in mind to rescue the others (". . . try everything you can . . . you can never beat me . . . unless you want to try that technique you've been saving"), but I think that when the goo jumped to close around him from behind that it was actually a genuine shock for dub Vegetto in that he didn't see the attack coming, like "Oh shit, this is it."

I don't think he was putting on an act for Boo at that point; I think he was (only slightly) caught off-guard.

I had thought of another one recently that I enjoyed but never got around to posting it (it was the weekend and I can't seem to access this site from my house computer, so I can only come on at school), and ironically...it came from the episode, MY FAVORITE @#$% EPISODE, and the episode I feel, because of those reasons, FUNi butchered it worse than many others. ...That sounded gramatically awkward but being too lazy to correct it I'm just gonna continue kthx.

Anyways, it's when Cell is trying to provoke Gohan's anger and make him reach that 'beyond the beyond Super Saiyajin' Gokou enticed him about. In the Japanese version, after he releases the Cell Juniors and they start beating the shit out of everyone, Cell seems a lot more fired up and eager to get Gohan angry...which yeah, I guess that makes the most sense considering that he's supposed to be all fired up and whatnot. But in the English version, for some reason I felt the scene more suited towards Cell's actual character overall, rather than the way Cell was originally portrayed in this scene...he was a lot more calm and calculated, and to me it speaks more of 'Damn dude, I'm such an effin' genius, man, this plan's totally gonna work, for realz', whereas in the Japanese version he's...I dunno, maybe too on the edge of his seat for it to happen.

I feel like even though he ISN'T in the original, Cell SHOULD react this way - a lot more confident in his plan and its success than super liek ZOMG eager for it to pull through. And when I compare the Manga to both the Anime adaptations the dub version seems to fit more for the reasons I just said, rather than his portrayal in the Japanese. One line in particular struck me as fantastic and I always praised whoever Cell's dub VA was for it (a-heh, I mostly only saw FUNi's dub from the point of takeover in the Freeza Saga to about mid-Androids in the Cell Saga, not counting the redub, so I'm not super familiar with their work on a lot of the Cell Saga aside from a bit here and there, and like, none of the Buu...so I only just recently found out his VA was Damion Clark, who I loved in YYH and FMA...ironically, two of my favorite Anime, both FUNi dubs)...the line was 'playtime is over, children!! You may kill them now.' It just fit so perfectly...even if the translation was nearly dead-on and it sounds odd for me to say 'the dub did this better'. But I feel they did because it's not the words, but how Cell actually says them. It had a much more Cell feel to me in the dub, and I liked this better because I prefer to think Cell was this way until Gohan started to make him realize his mistake...and seeing that 'fired up' nature he has in the Japanese before Gohan transforms to me seems...eh, I dunno, just...not the way the Cell we get to know to that point should have behaved. *shrug*

Freeza has a couple I really like. The aforementioned "...and now I'm going to eat you!" line to Krillin and then when he shoots Vegeta later on and Vegeta finally kicks off after giving his little speech to Goku Freeza mutters something to the extent of "...finally...saiyans tend to linger like a bad oder..."

I found that amusing.

I loved the dialogue and voices for Goku and Vegeta in the Majin Vegeta arc.

"Answer me! You let yourself be a slave?"

*blows up stands/audience* "Is it slavery when you get what you want?!" *creepy grin*

Oh yeah, the dialog between Goku and Vegeta during the Majin Buu Saga was done excellently. So much emotion put into it too. I like how Vegeta calls Goku a clown. Might sound weird, but when he's got Goku bound against the cliff, he comes up to him and he's like, "How does it feel clown!? Do you feel humiliated!?" And he slaps him around. You just feel the hatred. Excellent job by Chris Sabat and Sean Schemmel.

I liked that whole exchange. Got more of a feel with Vegeta's narration than the original that was silent.

Will also have to say, the one character who I felt Mr. Sabat did better than the Japanese version was his Popo. Had the goofy, yet wise sound to it. His Japanese voice coupled with how he looks isn't that great to me (obviously), but Mr. Sabat makes him more tolerable.

Chris Sabat makes him seem like the poor wise man who is Kami's companion. In the Japanese one, he just sounds like...I don't know. I don't like him in the Japanese version at all. And he has a Yoda thing going on.

I agree, I also love the music they play during that fight. Not that the Japanese music in general is bad, but some of Faulconer's music does fit the mood really well in my opinion.

His reaction to Kami dying during the Saiyan arc was great.

Also just loved Krillian telling Vegeta to "Shut your mouth>" after Yamcha is Killed.
