I agree with the OP. Cosplay's pretty strange.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

I was just watching the Female version of Ninja Warrior (kunoichi) on G4 earlier today and they cut to a crowed reaction with some guy dressed up as Vegeta in the Saiyan armor with the tail around his waist standing there. I thought that was...special.

To be honest, I absolutely don't get it. And don't care for it. But it's nice for people to find something that makes them happy. So that's nice.

For a really long time I didn't get it either. For me, dressing up was only fun for Halloween. But I was at a con recently and saw someone who had such an amazing costume that it completely drew me in. And then I just kind of realized that there's nothing to "get." It's just about having a good time. Making the costumes is pretty fun - and getting to show off the craftsmanship is more fun! I just look at it as something that shouldn't be taken TOO seriously.

But I can totally understand where people who aren't into are coming from. Especially when there's a just a lot of poor costumes out there. I suppose cosplay is weird... but not in a bad way. :P

Yeah.

Best way to sum it up: Cosplay is wearable fanart. 8)

If the fanart is made by Kenshi.

If you mean Super Saiyajin spaghetti monsters... well, that's actually what I was planning on going as at my next con.

Not really, although that would be rather hilarious. Though I still will look pretty badass. 8)

My god, I laughed and laughed at those.

My sister still has that as the background on her desktop.

Anyways, I would say that the biggest obstacle to cosplay would be things that just don't exist in the real world, like whatever Saiyan armor is made of. At least make it out of plastic instead of fabric.

Whoa momma!

That Videl at the top of the page isn't bad either.

I want to make the Orange Dougi that they all wear, with the 亀on the back and front, and it would be connected to the pants like in the manga and anime, I've not seen any like that before, and I'd have to make the neck ellastic, make it small enough to wear like in the manga and stretchy enough to pull off.
That'd be great for expos.

She'd look better out of those clothes. I mean damn, girl has a body but...she's doing this. So you have to wonder to yourselves what else she does. I happen to know that a lot of girls that are into Anime and stuff are pretty "wild" if you know what I mean. Think about that one. Makes it even better lol

Any Brits remember that episode of Takeshi's Castle (Japanese gameshow centring around Kitano "Beat" Takeshi) had a girl cosplaying as Son Goku and a guy cosplaying as Muten Roshi!

That girl in the young Chi Chi cosplay is pouring out of that bikini suit. She's pretty developed for her age. I bet she's in the 7th or 8th grade.

That Muten Roshi avatar might not be rejecting the idea.
Maybe just a little puffpuff...
