Not to mention she closed down Disneyland for her 16th birthday at a party held two months before her actual birthday occurs and charged guests $250 a pop to come to the party.

If I don't see it in the theater I'll just borrow the DVD from someone... I don't necessarily have to shill out to see it.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Then don't see the movie(s)!

No. How ridiculous do I sound?Oh, please. Do you know how ridiculous you sound?
Batman & Robin bombed, too.I don't see any of that happening. I mean, if the movie bombs, who's going to want to buy the rights for another movie? And surely they would have a substantially lower budget than this one...

While its true that there are boys who want to see Hannah Montana and girls who want to see Dragonball, we can safely assume that the majority of the populous will want to follow the gender stereotypes and the majority of the people who see the "girl movie" will be girls and the majority of the people who see the "boy movie" will be boys.Velasa wrote:< < But as a 14-15 year old girl I was still watching DBZ as opposed to the girly things of the day. Basically I'm saying it's not as simple as saying anything's for boys or girls only as kids can like whatever they want.
I don't disregard that there are more open-minded people out there who break these stereotypes, but I think that the majority will follow the stereotypical example.
I prefer to see it as a re-imagining. The same as Tim Burton's Batman. While it barely followed the comic source material, it was still an entertaining movie that could be recognized as Batman. Something that would be an adaption would follow the source material much more closely.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:But... that's what it is.Kendamu wrote:(I refuse to call it an adaption)
Something like the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from 1990 would be what I consider an adaption because it follows the source material much more closely. It even goes as far as to pulling exact storylines from the old comics that I could read page-by-page as I watch the movie, adding a little bit of familiar flair from the then-popular cartoon, and stringing them together a little differently to make a brand new story with its own twists and turns.
I consider this new Dragonball movie to be a re-imagining because it doesn't follow the source material closely enough to be an adaption like the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is.

I sure have but I've never seen posters or DVDs if I did I may have just overlooked them. You aren't taking my ignorance of Hana Montana as a personal attack are you?omegacwa wrote:I guess you have never been to best buy, walmart, virgin mega store, fye, sam goody, or toy r us, or any department store for that matter.NeptuneKai wrote:Nope, I live in Chicago...then again I'm not lurking around small girls or toy stores where her products would be the most prominent so maybe that's why I don't see a lot of her. Edit: Actually out of that whole list I've only been to Best Buy ( and Toys R Us but I haven't been since I was about 11)
Outside of Best Buy I usually just go to Gamestop and groceries are taken care of by Jewel...then of course there is Borders and those are essentially the only places I need to shop if you want to disregard home repair.

Same here. It's got more than enough in plot and feel to be considered "DragonBall," but it doesn't operate the exact same way.Kendamu wrote:I consider this new Dragonball movie to be a re-imagining because it doesn't follow the source material closely enough to be an adaption.
As for Hannah Montana "vs" DragonBall... Yeah, who knows which movie will make more profit... But we'll see which one's still around and popular in twenty years. Probably the one that's already been around and popular for twenty years.

Hype? They need a miracle and a good strategy for marketing their movie. You make money from merchandise and the toys 'n' games market. Kids have a great deal of influence in making a profit from a movie. Except for movies like Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal Rising.Brad Redfield wrote:Yup. Hanna Montana is so fucking huge right now its insane. Unless either Fox changes the release date or somehow manages to build substantial hype for DB, its going to get clobbered.TheGreatness25 wrote:Going up against Hannah Montana? DB is toast.

Hannah Montana doesn't exactly cater to the same people as DBZ does. Of course, the same applies to X-Men. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Miley Cyrus already have some concert that was played in movie theaters which made a shit-ton of cash this year? I would assume that the Hannah Montana movie will butcher any other movie in gross for the first weekend.
Picture this: the DBZ cosplayers (you know, the ones who, during the movie, will scream out what should be happening in the movie) standing in line for theater 2, the 8-15 y/o girls standing in another line for theater 1. I can imagine just how funny that scene would be.

Oh you know DB will be buried. It just ismply was not meant to be a movie. Hannah Montana will slaughter this movie. If nothing else will. Who knows what other movies are coming out that could absolutely destroy this dumbass movie? Hannah Montana topples Goku. Only in America... Only in America. Because hopefully this movie won't embarrass us by making rounds in other countries.
