Same as Castor on the first count, first heard of the series via EGM's import coverage of the Butoden games. I actually got into the series personally in 1995, then the original Japanese version in 1998 or 1999.

Lot of you guys had those old game magazines back then I see. Back those days, only one I was familiar with was Nintendo Power which my best friend had a subscription to (and the commercials).
