At least they tried. I mean, they could've put Piccolo doing the Makankosappo on the cover of the DVDs for the Great Saiyaman episodes.biohazard wrote:Goku from the Boo's saga, Vegeta from the Android's saga, Klilyn and Gohan with Freeza soldier's armours... At least they are better than the Manga films DB/Matutano covers

Okay, wait. We're heard they had DragonBox footage and "remastered" it themselves, and the DVD's use the "Dragon Box" name so...did they use DragonBox footage? Some people have questioned it as of late.
Also, the covers aren't horrid. Couple of goofy mistakes, but it's not like having what is obviously Freeza arc Goku on the cover of the Cell Games ;p

They seem to be "Dragon Box" masters that weren't cleaned up. The footage still contains scratches and hair popping up every once in a while. I would assume it's Toei's Dragon Box telecine, converted to PAL of course. I'm just throwing shit out there, though. So don't take my word for it.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Okay, wait. Nothing to worry about. No need to make such a post. We were just thinking along the same lines, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.DBZGokuSaiyan wrote:Oh. So, they are using their own tapes for remastering?SatoSky wrote:

I thought the only masters Toei has now are the Dragonbox remaster stuff.SatoSky wrote:They seem to be "Dragon Box" masters that weren't cleaned up. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
@Krycek - Yes, but they're not really "remastering" anything. They just blur the footage and bump up the saturation. Certainly not to the extent that FUNimation does, though.
@Raki - Toei owns the original 16mm film print. Those prints were telecined, cleaned up and became the Dragon Box masters. Now my "theory" is that Toei either sold or just flat out gave Selecta Vision tape masters of the new telecine, before they were cleaned up. This explains the Spanish DVD's still having scratches and all that stuff.
Again, this is all stuff that I came up with, because I have time like that.

I don't think your guess is far off, AB France, the ones who actually give out video sources to other countries, claim to have this source, and claim to have given Selecta vision the source to work from, and thought their result was horrible when Selecta gave them samples of their remastering.SatoSky wrote:@Krycek - Yes, but they're not really "remastering" anything.
