Yeah, I understood that. Did I say it backwards? Anyway, I was actually wondering if there was any other benefit to these sets. I'm perfectly happy with the singles as they are, and the fact that I can get them cheap is a plus.
The wide-screen double features look better than the singles, they are also pretty competently encoded, however I picked up the singles because there probably won't be another chance to own the movies in 4:3.
...so, the 4:3 is BAD, and you had to get the singles because it was the only chance to get the films...in 4:3? Can you explain that one? (I'm not being sarcastic or coy or what have you, I'm really actually curious)

I wouldn't say the 4:3 is bad, you're actually getting more picture, it's just that these are older FUNimation dvd's, so the encodes aren't as solid as their more recent releases.

So basically, I got them because they're cheap, they are 4:3 and I only care about the Japanese language track, I've got forever to pick up the new wide-screen double features anyway.

What exactly is meant by the "encodes not being as solid"?

Frankly, I'm sure it ends up being something for which I wouldn't be willing to trade Japanese title cards.

Meaning they aren't as good. It has to do with framerates and sometimes how the picture will pixelate and such. A lot of it is stuff that most people would never notice or put much thought into, but at Daizenshuu EX you're mostly getting Dragonball Maniacs who really care about this stuff.

Yeah, and when this tin comes out it's basically big "lol, suckers" to anybody who bought the older one.

Funimation decisions make no sense. They are some of the most retarded people I've ever seen when it comes to the simplest things.

It's 99.999% certain that it's just a filler image, guys. It's happened with previous sets. Remember Majin Vegeta on Season Seven?

See, my theory is that none of FUNimation's departments communicate with each other with DBZ releases.

Oh God.

They never cease to amaze me. They must have fucking monkies making the DVD cover art. Seriously, wtf is this crap.

While I abhor the thought of re-buying two bad movies just for one horrible movie, I'll probably get this just for completionists sake.

I hate you Funi...

Guys...
MagicBox wrote:It's obviously just a placeholder. That's the same background the TV Special tin had. I'm positive it'll be revised. Besides, this hasn't even been announced yet. We usually get coverart after solicitations, so I'm sure this is just a placeholder until then.

Filler image. Actual release is a LONG way off. Despite some popular exaggeration, FUNi is NOT so incompetent as to have those background characters on a Broly Triple-Feature. Hell, the picture of Broly might even change.
SonGokuGT wrote:The other Broly Blu-ray was an obvious "tech demo" that they made you pay for. Oh well, I enjoyed it and I'll rebuy these again to get the English with Japanese BGM...
The previous release was just that, a Blu-Ray test. It didn't have any of the fancy new stuff the Double-Features are boasting, and I'm not even sure if it included the Japanese track. This Triple-Feature is clearly the better of the two releases. It's not just the same thing over again.

I know, I'm bad like that too. This'll actually be my 3rd time buying the Broli movies. (after fansub VHS and FUNi DVD) But at least it'll have remastered video, the original music in the dub (something I've always wanted and still love), and the fact that you're getting 3 movies for the price of one ($30.00 MSRP) is pretty sweet too.

Plus, I'll be able to do more of those rad screenshot comparisons you kids are into these days. :P

Its not shocking, but I am pleased. I will be adding these to my ever growing Dragon Ball Blu ray collection. I bitch about these discs quality, but they are the best releases, North American wise. I can only imagine how "Kakarot" will sound in Dolby TrueHD!

Nice try.

Well it's obvious that once Blue-Ray won the format war, FUNImation would re-release new versions of the same product for that format. Too bad I and many, many other people cannot afford a Blue Ray player at the moment :(. Still, I am glad they released all three Broly films together in a way and I hope to see more releases in the future. Crossing fingers for a "Dragon Box" version of the series, non-widescreen, on Blue Ray someday... it has to come... :. ( .

...why did anyone buy the Blu-Ray "Double Feature"? It was a stupid release, with no guarantee of the other films coming out in the same form. It was a bad purchase for anyone, plain and simple. At the very best, it was a video test on the new player.

I think the point of concern is that nobody knew that a new collection was going to be be released on blu-ray with the same movies.

And if you bought the Blu-Ray original release, you only got two movies. Now, you get to spend more money on the awesomeness that is Bio-Broly.

This release makes me giggle.
This must be something the younger crowd is into because I've never personally met a DBZ fan around my age that is into Brolli.
I remember Broly being a pretty big deal when it was about to release stateside back in 2003. I picked up a copy of the DVD about three weeks before its street date at FYE, promptly took it home, and ... well, it wasn't bad or anything, but the hype didn't help things.
