New Freeza Talkback
Re: New Freeza Talkback
Now all we need to hear is that OHOHOHOHOHOHO~ and how well Ayers can pull it off.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Re: New Freeza Talkback
His voice tone, style and acting in the preview was closer to Newstone than episode 19. I don't see how any can not hear Newstone in the voice.DemonRin wrote:See, I don't get how anyone still hears Newstone in this at all.
I heard it in the Thursday episode, but this episode felt like a complete 180 from there. He sounds sufficiently like a man, and he acts the character really similarly to Nakao, even if his tones is different. (but that's a normal thing in this dub, Kuririn in a prime example)
I never had a problem with Newstone's Freeza so the fact that Ayres' Freeza is so close to Newstone's Freeza doesn't bother me therefore I don't try to fade it out or anything like that.
I had the same problem.DemonRin wrote:EDIT: DAMNIT! I keep trying to make this post but it won't let it go through because of everyone ELSE posting!

WOW, on the Nicktoons clip of Gohan and Krillin discovering the Namek Dragon Balls in Frieza's possession, check out the description!

Oh... My... God!!!Gohan and Krillin spy on Frieza and her henchmen and make a startling discovery!

Re: New Freeza Talkback
How the fuck do you hear Newstone's Freeza? I can't hear it all..
Ayres is doing a great job thus far.
Here's Newstone's Freeza.

Sorry dude, Young was closer to Newstone as Ayres is closer to the original character.
I've always thought up until Kai that the dubs were just laughable..and how cheesy the voice acting was.. Freeza was a huge example.

On my computer, I have some audio editing effects. I use Realtek HD Audio Manager and bring the pitch down to -3, which makes Freeza's voice sound really, really good, much deeper and Nakao-like.
I can post clips of any specific lines anyone would like to hear

I like how he said "I believe you have a Dragon Ball in your possession." Very Mark Hamill-esque. An actor who I've always felt would make a good Freeza.jjgp1112 wrote:I like how he said, "You will kindly answer the question in the same language with which they were addressed to you, not this gibberish."Goku100xKamehameha wrote:Another New Freeza Voice!

Happens all the time. Dude writing the description didn't actually watch the clip, just saw a screenshot and went from there.Metalwario64 wrote:WOW, on the Nicktoons clip of Gohan and Krillin discovering the Namek Dragon Balls in Frieza's possession, check out the description!

Same thing happened when Hellsing Volume 10 came out a month ago. There is a French character who is given an actual French accent in his dialog in the English translation, who wears an Australian Sloop Hat. The Online synopsis and the Back of the actual book itself calls him an "Australian Mercenary".

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Preview came after the episode so it's a good indication of what the voice will be like, and it's so very Newstone like.DemonRin wrote:RazorX wrote:His voice tone, style and acting in the preview was closer to Newstone than episode 19. I don't see how any can not hear Newstone in the voice.
I didn't watch any preview, I watched the entire actual EPISODE
I'm glad the voice exceeded my low expectations. Funimation's Kai dub is much better than their Z dub.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
I feel that almost all traces of Newstone are gone. Still a little too raspy for me and a little to high, but as a new voice, all on it's own? I love it. It's a lot better than what we heard last week.
My initial reaction was overly harsh, though going back, that first line sounds almost nothing like what we hear now, in my opinion.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
I'm not good at explaining things, but does anyone notice - at least in the episode 21 preview - that his voice fluctuates between something similar to Newstone's and a deeper voice? Almost like he's imitating her, and the voice keeps slipping. Maybe I'm imagining things...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Maybe Freeza voice is like women voice that's why Nicktoons wrote that!Metalwario64 wrote:Gohan and Krillin spy on Frieza and her henchmen and make a startling discovery!

Yeah, I know, just like how they kept referring to Vegeta as Radditz for the longest time.DemonRin wrote:Happens all the time. Dude writing the description didn't actually watch the clip, just saw a screenshot and went from there.
I just thought it was incredibly hilarious that even with a male actor someone still managed to mistake him as a female.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
Newstone really never handled Freeza correctly for many fans..but then again this is mostly a "Japanese version" fan base. I don't think we've gotten to hear the full extent to Ayres's Freeza.
It's definitetly better than anything we've heard so far throughout the years, but I just can't wait until things get serious and Freeza gets creepier!

Re: New Freeza Talkback
I think it's intentional to increase the "creepy factor" , as in his voice gets more masculine as he gets irritated. I hear no imitation of anything, Chris seems to be keeping the spirit of the original character while making the role his own.bkev wrote:I'm not good at explaining things, but does anyone notice - at least in the episode 21 preview - that his voice fluctuates between something similar to Newstone's and a deeper voice?
