That's not a good excuse for poor writing. "We'll get to it in the sequel." From listening to JM talk, it seems like he'd seen some backstory and for whatever reason it just didn't make it in. Diving into his past in order to flesh out a change to good in the sequel is fine (after all, it isn't like we got "Son of Kattatsu" flashbacks during the Daimao saga). But simple stuff like "who is he?" "How did he escape confinement?" "Why was he hanging out with a Saiyan?" "How does he know anything about Goku if he was imprisoned?" "How did he get out just in time for Goku's birthday?" "What exactly did he want the Dragon Balls for? He seemed interested in A) destroying the world and B) getting Goku on his side... neither of which required the Dragon Balls." Just like 5 minutes of simple plot development in keeping with immediately relevant events would have been nice. I can be pretty forgiving with this kind of stuff. And that sort of thing really isn't hard.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Have anyone ever thought that Piccolo’s background would be explored in the sequel in addition to him having more screen time?
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
The camp fire scene where Roshi essentially just repeats the prologue of the film would have been the perfect time to go into detail on Piccolo's past. I couldn't believe they felt the need to repeat the prologue almost word-for-word not more than 30 minutes after it was originally told.Onikage725 wrote:That's not a good excuse for poor writing. For whatever reason they cut it. I think they wanted to save some footage for the extended DVD or the sequel to save money.JAPPO wrote:For whatever reason they cut it. The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Yea, I thought so. JM's interviews really came across as if he thought there was some meaty material. And he likes to play a nuanced villain. Spike, Lex Luthor, Prof Fine/BranIAC, Cpt. Hart on Torchwood- a fusion of Piccolo Daimao and Ma Jr. should have fit right in.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

I know on the Final Destination DVD commentary they made fun of the critics.B wrote:I'm looking forward to actor/director commentary on the movie.
It'll be interesting hearing what they think of their job on it and any possible remarks on the creative thinking process.

Of course they did. "Oh we don['t suck its those mean ole critics." I'm curious if Joel Schumaker was a cry baby on the Batman and Robin commentary. Of if he just admitted he made an awful movie. Would be a refreshing change.JAPPO wrote:I know on the Final Destination DVD commentary they made fun of the critics.B wrote:I'm looking forward to actor/director commentary on the movie.

I don't know about director commentary on the DVD, but I do know Clooney has gone on record about how bad the movie was, and he took a good share of the blame on himself. I actually think he was hard on himself. After all, he was working under a director who had a certain vision and approved each scene.
Oh, also, the casts of Jurassic Park III and Cursed basically knew they were just cashing paychecks. I saw the JPIII cast joking on tv about how they werent even sure if the movie had an ending just before it came out. A change from the usual positive PR actor's are supposed to do up to a film's release.

No it was more professional than that. They didn't say they sucked, I forget what it was exactly.Victator Supreme wrote:Of course they did. "Oh we don['t suck its those mean ole critics." Yeah... they could have at least say that Mai found the thermos thing that released Piccolo and was offered to help him gather the Dragonballs in exchange for money or something. I mean, we don't know bout Piccolo, but we know less about Mai. Why was she so loyal?
Now the REAL plothole.... Piccolo tried to rule the world with Ohzaru, but when he was sealed, Ohzaru vanished. Seeing as Piccolo was locked away for 2000 years.... Who the hell was Ohzaru the Destroyer???? Certainly not Goku. Bardock maybe? How would he know that Goku was the new Ohzaru?

What was actually said in the script? Roshi refers to Piccolo as a Namek?JAPPO wrote:For whatever reason they cut it. There's a great quote from Michael Caine about starring in Jaws: The Revenge: "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."Oh, also, the casts of Jurassic Park III and Cursed basically knew they were just cashing paychecks.
