The original 1996 dub introduces Gohan as "five and a half" (instead of the four years old that he actually is), so he's effectively aged up anywhere from 1.5-2 years throughout the FUNimation dub after that all the way through.

^ Strange. They must have thought that four years old was unrealistic for what Gohan's able to do from the start, especially once Piccolo has taken him and talks to him for the first time (nice speech, nice thinking process, long-term memory...) when I guess a four years old kid is essentially still at an evolved stage of being a "baby" (I think we usually don't even remember what we did at four, much like when we were two or three).

I don't think it's becaause of the violence, cause if they were against a kid getting beat up in the show, five years and a half would not be any better than four years old.
I think it was really a matter of "four years, seriously? More like five years and a half, at least. So that he's six years old once six months of survival in wilderness have passed and he receives his first basic training at a reasonable age".

That's a strong possibility, I can see that being the reason for the ageing, although it is flawed since as we all know, saiyans mature much faster than humans so they can be battle ready. It's not even that farfetched since that was also the case with the neanderthal race.

My "mature", do you mean that they grow older faster? Because it's the exact opposite. The stay kids for a long time so that they can fool their enemies, they grow up fast when they reach adulthood, they stay in their prime for much longer than the Earthlings do so that they can fight longer, and they live a little longer than Earthlings.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Look at Vegeta as a kid and Goku in Dragon Ball minus and tell me they don't reach maturity faster. They may not age as fast as humans, or rather, they stay physically able for longer periods, but in regards to psychological maturity, they start reaching it at a very early age.

Just a comparison between Toyble art (a while years ago) and actual Toyotaro art: same person, just more refined style now :o
(and just a little bit of auto-tracing  )

The head looked better before, but I'm not going to really complain about it. The guy is doing at least a dozen pages a month now, instead of a fan project at his own pace. I figure I should cut him some slack for that.

I think he's improved his body, but given Toyotarou is busier now I'm not surprised the face isn't perfect. Heck, he might have intentionally tried to not look like Toyble so people don't put him in any difficult pickles.

Hey guys i have a question, so since JM6 is coming up and reveals Nuova and Eis Shenron and JM7 Might be Syn Shenron/Omega Shenron and SS4 Gogeta...will JM8 have Goku and Vegeta Jr.? Unless they throw in a Movie based set.

There's no telling what will come next, but Wu Xing Long hasn't been featured yet, so that's probably the next set, making Yi Xing Long the main feature of JM9. But again, there's no certainty that Goku Junior will be the focus of JM10.

Oh, that's what you mean. Then yes, that is correct.

Child Kakarrotto! X3
Neat.
I still wish he'd gotten some dialogue in Jaco or Minus. I want to know how his personality differs from Gokû in more than second hand accounts from Kamesennin.

I had forgotten all about that drawing; that's one of the earlier ones I ever saw too.

It's been pretty consistently his purple gi and the Great Saiyaman costume, with only the Goku gi for his Ultimate form. (Much to my disappointment)

First teaser commercial is out for the SECs.

The Japanese who commented think this one is Si Xing Long, which seem kinda likely with what looks like his wings on the card...but he already has an UR card. Seems like it would be a waste, unless its someone else with him as a summon. (Which apparently people are now thinking it's SS4 Goku with Si Xing Long as a Dimensional transfer).
For this one, the poster things it looks like Freeza's face in the circle, but others question if it isn't Mind Controlled Piccolo...I feel like that would be a waste too, as it would mean we probably aren't getting anything NEW new this set. (Second option is Ma Juionr with his Giant Form as a CAA.)
Also, unlike the JM6 animated commercial, the Trunks:Xeno card has his DBO (and likely Xenoverse now) time machine. Fun to see more DBO stuff pop up.
Didn't get a good image of DB- Goku, the colors on his armor aren't 100% clear when you look at the fuzzy 15 second videos.
