I'm thinking they might just be selectively cropping the masters for the Level blurays or something, didn't they make a big deal about remastering DBZ in HD and cleaning the fallen hairs, DNA evidence and spilled noodles from Japan off of the picture? And those looked like fairly wide shots too, like they weren't zoomed in or anything so it could come out looking better than most people are expecting.
Didn't they also advertise the same "pan & scan" for the Orange Bricks, that just didn't exist? They'll just leave in some sweat bubbles collected from Steve Franko and "frame" him for the whole thing 8)

While this video is no doubt fake, it gives an interesting idea on how these might look?

I explained that Dragon Ball Z is coming to Blu-Ray, and he's like, how in the world can a cartoon look any different on Blu-Ray lol

That's so true

Hah. I commented the other day saying 'These are the just the level sets cropped. Not exactly an accurate representation' and he deleted the comment!

I don't know who 'he' is but that's certainly not true at all.

You certainly have never seen Pinocchio, Lion King, Despicable Me, SpongeBob SquarePants, Akira, DBZ Level 1.1 & 1.2 and other Blu-rays, or the equipment you're watching isn't suitable.

If these Blu-ray Season bricks looked that good I wouldn't mind, but that's obviously taken from the cancelled Level sets and very likely it won't look anywhere near as good as it was.

I took a blu ray screen cap and put it with the one from the video. It seems like it's like the orange bricks but not as screwed up with better colors and a little grain.

Cropping against the level sets:

And against the orange bricks:

seems like the cropping is different + you can see more if the sides.

I never get why people would go to the lengths of wasting their time making a fake YouTube video. They're not getting paid for every click like a major corporation, so it's just a pointless exercise for the sake of rustling jimmies or getting naive people to blindly believe you. Even doing it to draw users to your own website actually serves a purpose, but not what that guy did.

EDIT: Actually, judging from the comparison caps, I'm starting to think those are legit. There's no way he could've constructed the side footage, *and* there's more on the sides and top than the Standard Def Season sets, and it would take a fuckton of editing to make the colors and lines look like that.

These shots show more picture horizontally compared to any other releases including the 16:9 version of Kai. I suppose these are legit.

So are those screenshots legit? At first I thought that the video was fake and just a cropped version of the level sets but how could he create extra image on the left and right sides.

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

Kinda easy with photoshop, I don't see anything repeating but if you look carefully at the right side of the image it looks sort of blurred and doesn't fit with the rest of the picture. It's less grainy too. It'd be nice to see it in motion but they still look fake, there's still extra stuff on the left that fits in though, so that actually looks real.

But if they're fake, then whyyyyyyyyy. Why fake screen shots in Photoshop then make a video on YouTube?! Too much effort for nothing, so there's got to be something to it.

That's probably just the edge of the frame.

Edit: You have a point, though, and I noticed it on the other frames, too. But still, there's more on the sides than even on the season sets, so that's alleviating my skepticism for the moment.

Yeah, that's how the edges of films look like. It makes them seem more legit.

I just popped in my level blu rays and these screenshots definitely have more image on the left and right sides these look like they're legit.

Here's another one. I was thinking the same thing Kei. They must be reaching to the very last of the picture on these new blu rays (if these are real screen shots)

If anyone has this shot from any other releases (kai/orange bricks) I'd appreciate it :)

Those caps definitely suggest the selective cropping, too, rather than an automated process. So they probably cropped it so they could do the manual process they were doing before but without the added strain of trying to fix the extensive damage at the bottom of the frames.

If these are real then this release is looking pretty good as well as the fact that you can get the first 39 episodes for $26!!

Looks like this time blacks are not crushed and you can see how the color cast is gone from the Vegeta shot. I wish this were non-cropped..

Just for fun (too see what we might have gotten) I merged the two together, with some photoshop to fill the gaps.
