See, I can agree with this to a point, but in the situation I'm thinking of... well, let's just say, how many left hands can Freeza have? The situation worked in The Princess Bride because it was a comedy. In Dragon Ball, it's being played completely straight. And yet Freeza pulls this trick a total of FIVE TIMES if memory serves correctly (counting both transformations and power-up percentages). It gets more than a little tiresome.

As much as I prefer Freeza as a character, Cell does it better. He can't just access his power-ups on his own. He requires something else, which means the heroes have a goal of stopping him from reaching what he needs to transform. The execution is lacking, but the premise is better. And I think Boo does it best, where the transformations are linked to erratic emotional states and acquiring other characters. Because the way Cell does it, well, it's obvious going in he is going to reach his perfect form. It would be a letdown not to. But with Boo, since there is no plotted out end goal, nobody has any idea where it's going to go from there. Again, a lot of the execution is terrible, even worse than the previous two, but the idea is the best.

That part didn't work because it was a comedy, it worked because it was a great reversal. We know Inigo is holding back, but it turns out that Westley was as well. It's played completely straight.

Freeza tells everyone up front that he has several transformations and that he's holding back his power. Why put any more into it than he has to? One thing I really liked was when he finally does reach his full power, that output ends up hurting him as he burns out rather quick. It doesn't work with Buu because his transformations don't end up making sense.

... I think watching Dragon Ball on a CRT TV and a VCR is the best way to view the show :D I know it may seem really weird but I didn't even get to use an LCD or HDTV until my 13th birthday almost two years ago. I pretty much grew up using CRT TVs to watch anything so that's what I'm used to. Heck, I'm currently trying to find a way to merge a CRT and HDTV so I can play my Xbox One on it

Eight times actually.

-He powers up in his first form to fight Vegeta, after using a fraction of his power to crush Nail, causing Krillin, Gohan, and Piccolo to all say things along the lines of "I knew he was powerful, but I never knew his true power was so much higher...!".

-He transforms into his second form when it looks like they have a chance against his first, and starts dominating everyone.

-Powers up in his second form when Gohan looks to be driving him back, then swats Gohan like a bug.

-Powers up again in his second form and beats up Piccolo when it looks like Piccolo's gaining the edge on him.

-Transforms into his third form when Piccolo does his own "I am not left-handed" move, continues beating up Piccolo and the others.

-Goes to his final form when Vegeta says that he's surpassed Freeza's third, kills Vegeta.

-Fights with only a moderate advantage against base Goku in his final form for a while, but then reveals he was using substantially below 50% of his power, powers up to 50%, and proceeds to beat the hell out of Goku even after Goku multiplies his power by 10. He goes so far as to stalemate Goku when he uses KK x20.

-Finally, uses 100% of his power after another prolonged transformation sequence to fight SS Goku.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

He also powered up to 70% somewhere in between negating Goku's Kaioken Kamehameha, surviving the Genk Dama and powering up to 100%, since he claims to be 70% before he powers to 100%, if I'm not mistaken.

...........The original three French dubs for DB, DBZ, and DBGT aren't that bad and the opening ain't half bad either! Of course that's mainly coming from a position of someone who can't even speak the language  I just like the language and I like the actors and actresses.

So you don't mind things not being named, things being named incorrectly or weirdly, or, most damningly, AB Groupe's haphazard style of censorship that cuts out entire scenes regardless of importance?

Oh wait, you don't speak the language :P

Still, you should at least be noticing the last one (in uncut DVDs it shows up as switching to the Japanese track with subtitles whenever a scene is missing from the dub), and for the former you can get a taste of the script through the Big Green english dub. To be fair, the movies are far less likely to be censored than the TV series, as they were released on VHS instead of TV, so at least the plot is more comprehensible. I heard that the French Boo saga and GT also premiered on tape instead of TV.

- I prefer the Kikuchi score in Kai, although I still like Yamamoto
- The Faulconer productions score overall wasn't a good fit for the series, but there were some good tunes here and there
- I'm not entirely opposed to replacement scores, but the original score should be kept where possible
- I'm not opposed to editing provided there is an uncut version of the show or that particular dub available
- In terms of voice acting I prefer Ocean's DBZ dub to Funimations, even if its incomplete, however Funi Kai is my favourite English dub overall
- I also prefer the Ocean dub music to the Faulconer score
- I'm one of those sucker fans who would buy DB, DBGT, the movies and even all of Z again in the extremely unlikely (like never) event Funimation ever redubs those at Kai's standard
- In terms of remastering Kai is the best the show has ever looked, the Dragon Boxes would be a close second
- With the exception of the movies I prefer watching anything pre-Super in 4:3
- Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku is the best DB song
- Starring Star is the best Dragon Ball Super ending theme
- I enjoy Super quite a lot, especially the current and last arc
- Live action Dragon Ball can work if done right

That's true. Although if this arc is well executed and Goku Black's potential isn't wasted I have faith in TOEI to make more worthwhile arcs after this one.

Yeah sorry about that. I didn't know the script was that bad like the Big Green Dub. I had just seen one or two clips of it when I posted that. I've seen some more and it really is pretty bad. The actings alright but the screams are replaced a lot.

To be fair, the French Kai, BOG, and Res 'F' dubs are considered to be pretty good, with a good script that doesn't cling to the old dub names.

I. Dragon Ball GT is the best thing that ever happened to Dragon Ball and even with 1000 more flaws it would still be better than anything else Dragon Ball has
II. Even though I love the Z part (vol. 17-42) of "Dragon Ball" to death, it is highly overrated and One Piece with an actual story and character development deserves to be a greater success (which it is in one context or the other); almost paradoxically I still love Dragon Ball more even though I am a story guy - but I guess that is thanks to nostalgia, at least by a great deal
III. Dragon Ball "Z" is the worst of all old 3 Dragon Ball parts (still great though)
IV. 90% of what fans, yes, also so called experts claim to be true about Dragon Ball is wrong and just defended to death with selective pseudo-science. And almost everyone knows that but is not fair enough.
V. Even though I know Japanese and love Japanese voice actors I still think that the German and English voice actors are partially better than the original one, especially Tommy Morgenstern and Sean Schemmel as Goku, Vic Mignogna as Broly, Thomas Nero-Wolff as Freeza, Christopher Sabat and Oliver Siebeck as Vegeta and more.
VI. Related to V. I think the Japanese soundtrack has some of the best themes and songs but that does not mean I think it has the best overall. I love "Du wirst unbesiegbar sein", the German version of "We gotta power" and Faulconer Themes like Gogeta, Super Saiyajin 3, Vegeta's Theme, Shenlong's Theme, et cetera passionately. If the opening of GT in Japanese would be the original sung by Izumi Sakai (Rip) it would have the best song in its best version though.

I find overrated the need of the supporting cast meeding to be used, they're there just to support/be secondaries and nothing else.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

1. Videl is the best female in Dragon Ball besides Bulma. She's tough, has a never give up attitude, but is still girly and cutesy.

2. Yes, other characters have been pulled from the spotlight such as Tenshinhan, Piccolo and Yamcha, but Gohan is a character that has built up for an entire anime, big difference. Him being pushed to background status in Super is a big reason why I have no care for the show.

3. Dragon Ball Super doesn't just have bad art, it has disgusting art, and that takes me out of the show. South Park, which originally was drawn badly on purpose to save time, has more watchable art than Super.

The first arc of Dragon Ball has better art and much better animation. I love it when the rocks zoom by when Goku is riding the nimbus cloud.

4. Hit makes a better rival than Vegeta. I love Hit.

I agree with this a LOT. Don't get me wrong, Yamamoto's good. I just like Kikuchi's replacements in Kai a lot more. Even with the exclusion of more than 80% of his other work for the series, they still manage to hit that right spot in my heart. He gives the story a unique feelin' for me that's difficult to replicate. The replacements are misplaced and weird but there are some good ones as well. Kikuchi's placement for Goku transforming into a Super Saiyajin is actually my second favorite version of that scene right behind the original. I was actually happy growin' up when they made the switch from Yamamoto to Kikuchi on Kai. I liked his music a lot more. Kikuchi FTW! :)
