I chuckled at that scene. Vegeta knows Goku's personality by now but still scoffs at the idea that a Saiyan can be like that.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
It is, in fact, "Oh, what is he on?!" in the FUNi dub.
Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
It might have been "He calls himself a Saiyan" on TV but at one point I owned all the FUNi singles and it was "What is he on?" on the DVD. That's one that really sticks out to me because it's FUNi re-writing at its finest/worst, depending on how you want to look at it.Ashy-kun wrote:I think that's from the Ocean dub. I liked Vegeta's "What is he on?" line because it's funny and in-character for Vegeta.obiwan23s wrote:It might have been "He calls himself a Saiyan" on TV but at one point I owned all the FUNi singles and it was "What is he on?" on the DVD. Ummm... Is everyone missing the bit where I said this is how it was for the production with the Ocean voice casts, like what we got in the UK? ^^;;

I'm not at all familiar with the original FUNimation dub script but I wouldn't be surprised if there were more drug innuendos given the people writing the scripts were probably high as hell on the job.Piccolo Daimao wrote:I liked Vegeta's "What is he on?" line because it's funny and in-character for Vegeta.

That "Next Episode Preview" was awesome. The beginning was so funny.
Overall, I really liked Ayres in this episode. Other then that not much to comment on.

Only ten minutes into the episode, some of the faces Goku makes, just wtf happened there? Anyone else notice this? He looks really odd and poorly drawn/animated.
EDIT: I chuckled when he randomly thought of how Master Roshi was doing before doing the underwater Kamehameha's

Interestingly, when Frieza recovers from getting kicked, he mentions that that that was the first time he had to dust himself off since training with his father. Perhaps they were just covering up the implied child abuse?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Most likely for Nicktoons; I'd assume there'll be a more accurate line in the uncut version.jjgp1112 wrote:Interestingly, when Frieza recovers from getting kicked, he mentions that that that was the first time he had to dust himself off since training with his father. Chris Ayres is, of course, amazing in this episode. Chris Sabat's few lines as Piccolo are delivered really well.
Sean Schemmel's Goku is extremely inconsistent. One moment he's excellent, the next it's awful. I especially find that sometimes he just sounds extremely overwrought and it comes off really corny and insincere.
Some of the dialogue is getting a bit iffy, too.
I think that because this episode is so action-oriented, they figure nobody will notice the overall quality dropping.

He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
I don't have too much to say about this episode...more fighting-oriented as will be expected from here on out, so there's less dialogue to focus on...but I thought everything felt very nicely done. Gokou and Freeza finally have a chemistry, and this time, it's not the kind that revolves around terrifying innuendo, big boy...between Ayers as Freeza and Sean noticeably stepping up his game, I think this is some of the best we can expect out of a FUNimation Dragonball dub - and I'm more than satisfied with that. And for what little they had, I thought Colleen and Sabat as Piccolo did a particularly nice job, as well.
Also...this dub is my first experience of Kai. Are you seriously telling me that they left in that bullshit filler with Bulma and the Ginyu frog translator?! I...I could cry. I really, really could.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
I've still never felt that line implied child abuse. Just sounds like an inference to parental discipline to me. Obviously Toonami didn't have a problem with it. Strange that Nicktoons would. I hate to be the one to once again bring it back here, but they do play Avatar, a show that is filled to the brim with actual examples of child abuse, yet this was too hardcore for them?jjgp1112 wrote:Interestingly, when Frieza recovers from getting kicked, he mentions that that that was the first time he had to dust himself off since training with his father. Did anyone else notice Krillin was in his orange outfit when he flew away before the fight started? He was supposed to be in Saiyan armor.
Great voice acting in todays episode. I'm also glad they kept in the Bulma/Ginyu filler.

Actually, Chris Psaros had talked about that in his review of that episode in DBZ Uncensored way, way back. He learned that the original line was just that, and mentioned that it was a very japanese way of implying 'abuse/discipline'.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:Most likely for Nicktoons; I'd assume there'll be a more accurate line in the uncut version.jjgp1112 wrote:Interestingly, when Frieza recovers from getting kicked, he mentions that that that was the first time he had to dust himself off since training with his father. It's the show that brings you in, but it's the fandom that wears you out.
Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
Why? The Ginyu filler is entertaining. It doesn't even feel like filler. Plus it's finally got a dub with a decent voice for Bulma.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:I...I could cry. I really, really could.

"Right back at-cha!"
This fight is gonna be a hoot to watch, what with the better pace and MUCH better dub. Sean made some really fun reaction sounds, it was nice to hear him channel some Nozawa like playfulness. Not to mention his screams, by far the most intense of any English Goku ever hands down. The super Saiyan stuff should be most interesting, bring it on.
