I'm starting to like Quitela as a character. I like that he is a very sneaky and is probably going to trick Sidra to team up with him just to have Sidra be kick out of the Tournament. The less universes, the more of a chance that he can win. Having agents going under cover him to get information on the Universes is a really cool idea in my opinion.

Plus, this has the added benefit of making sure that some of Universe 7's warriors aren't at their peak when starting the tournament since when the assassins are dealt with, there'll probably be little time to recover.

I can't grasp the idea of Yamucha's "death pose" being a popular meme in Japan... in the early 90's, for obvious reasons.

Yamucha wasn't the strongest of the Z-senshi, but he possessed likeable character traits even into the Boo arc. The one time that he was shown shaken was when Freeza and Cold landed on Earth, and other characters (considered not "fodder" by some) have been shown shaken by events as well. Otherwise, he's always been there for Goku and co.

This reversioning of Yamucha in Super all stems from internet culture -- specifically, Western internet culture post English Z dub (like that obnoxious "Over 9000!" meme). I don't understand why TOEI would waste their time drawing influence from "popular memes". It's hollow pandering to an out-of-universe sense -- anyone that follows only the manga/series/in-universe story and are not aware about memes would be understandably confused by what Super has been doing. I wouldn't have known about the meme had I not started coming across the discussion about it on these forums.

None of them were, 94's title was already known and 97 was very similar, but still wrong.

So, we can pretty much discard those spoilers now, considering the only thing that was right was the similarity in the 97 title, I guess. I will really be surprised if they turn out to be legit now. Can't say if I liked the previous news more or the recent one. It would be neat to see Yamcha actually come as the 10th member, but I also want to see Frieza trying to work with Universe 7, so...conflicted.

Quite happy the most recent tumors/leaks are likely false, as it's hard to imagine a scenario in which Freeza moving to another team leads to more interesting sources of conflict than keeping him a reluctant ally.

I am curious about what Furuya was up to now though. Sounded like he had a busy schedule of Yamcha-ing.

Didn't know 94 was known beforehand. That being the case, I think it was only the writers of 95 and 97 that they guessed right in the fake leaks. They had:

Just because Toriyama is suddenly in love with Roshi again and includes him in RoF and in the U7 team, doesn't mean he's stronger than Yamcha. Roshi beat Tenshinhan and Tenshinhan is stronger than Yamcha which makes Roshi stronger than Yamcha. Its simple logic. We also don't know when he started training again so I'm not sure why you're making it seem like the timeframe was short.

He was never a major character. He's a side character that pops up from time to time.

He was absent for the majority of Dragon ball. He wasn't in the Red Ribbon arc or the King Piccolo arc. In the tournament arcs he was irrelevant after his losses. He rarely appeared after he died in the Saiyan arc and he rarely appears in Super.

I don't get how some people like you and especially HeroR can hold such a big ass hatred for a character. Yeah he's a joke character to many people now, but he sure as hell wasn't back then during the original run. Even people who laugh at him now because of the internet, still like him. Gintama's mangaka makes fun of him, but he's still one of his favorite characters. Toei have shown several times that they like him too. For one example, the guy who almost blew Monaka's cover, complete with everyone looking at him like "why is Yamucha even here?", or "We should've expected this much, being Yamucha and all". These jabs in a cultural self-awareness sense were previously non-existent in the 80's-90's run of the series. I mean, a jab can be harmless or playful, but here it's more out of mockery. It's distasteful and mean-spirited, imo.

To revert means to go back to a previous state. So what youre saying is that Yamcha was a joke and has gone back to that. That is why people are confused what youre saying.

Some people are still believing because of the title of EP 97, which it may have supposedly been changed in the Newtype magazine and that the leaks may be real, but the writers of the EP would not be changed that way.
