Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I hated it, it just gave us more Pilaf, a version of Tien and Chiaotzu where they were criminals, the Terror and Plague episode, Goku's doll episode, the mini arc after the Piccolo Jr arc etc.
The filler in DBZ was lame too until it reached the Android saga and then it improved big time.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I think the original DB got away with less noticeable filler and dragging because it was more adventurey and left room for side stories. Still, once the Piccolo saga starts, it's not much different from DBZ, and the filler episodes start looking more out of place. It's been a long while since i've watched it, but i recall that final arc after the Budokai is as bad as DB filler gets.
Yeah, i think that now we have Kai, DBZ up to Garlic Jr is almost unwatchable. But from that point onwards, the filler was not only of better quality, but also implemented better into the story.Bullza wrote:The filler in DBZ was lame too until it reached the Android saga and then it improved big time.

Live ratings top 10, September 28 - October 4 (episode 13)
Sazae 13.3
Detective Conan 9.8
Chibi Maruko-chan 8.1
One Piece 7.6
Kindaichi Case Files R 6.9
Dragon Ball Super 6.6
Pokemon XY 4.2
Yokai Watch 4.1
Go! Pretty Cure 4.0
K RETURN OF KINGS 3.0
End of holidays and new seasons shaking up the ranking. Conan had a great week thanks to a new and better lead-in starting now (Kindaichi 2nd season). Super has the best ratings in a while, very close to OP. Pokemon also higher than usual, and "K" had incredible ratings for a late night anime (01:55am).

Wow, go Super. ( O u O )
I'm curious to know how these fresh in-between episodes coming up will do.

On hiatus.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Thank god it rebounded. That's the best ratings it's had since episode 3. Strange then that One Piece was actually even lower than last week.
Let's hope it keeps up for a bit.

Now that is impressive. This is third highest rating that Super has pulled, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I wonder if the Jump promo advertising Mr. Satan's role in the episode helped the ratings.
At any rate, happy to see Japanese fans to get back into the series when the action heats up.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I think it's safe to say there's no way to predict how these ratings will go and that's good cause if one episode doesn't do that good it won't mean the series is doomed and fans are tired of it.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Precisely, which is why I think there is a bigger emphasise on merchandise rather than ratings when it comes to shows like this. The recent news snippet on Champa arc mentioned that the TV series was in the midst of a successful run (or something to that effect), so it is safe to say the merchandise must be selling well.sintzu wrote:I think it's safe to say there's no way to predict how these ratings will go and that's good cause if one episode doesn't do that good it won't mean the series is doomed and fans are tired of it.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
The numbers itself are very relative, it is hard to compare quantity a from one week to quantity b. Holidays, what else is on tv that day, etc. can affect those a lot.sintzu wrote:I think it's safe to say there's no way to predict how these ratings will go and that's good cause if one episode doesn't do that good it won't mean the series is doomed and fans are tired of it.
I think looking at our relative standings are helpful: below one piece and detective conan, above other things in the same general demographic. That hasn't changed much at all in the last 13 episodes. And shows don't go from success to failure in one week, either: tv planners will look at trends over many months to determine whether a series is doing well or not.

Wow! DB Supers ratings are looking decent. Hopefully it continues with ratings at this level, but it will very likely vary.

I'm betting 14's ratings are a bit better and then they start to go down again until we get near the climax of the F arc, similar to what has happened with the BoG arc. I really hope Toei relaunches the show with a new ad campaign when Universe 6 is starting to make sure that everyone knows that from that point on it is new stuff.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Yeah that's probably what will happen actually, if next episode doesn't have high ratings I'll be baffled... One thing that I'm curious about now is if they started with new content would there have been a chance DB could actually overtake OP on the odd occasion, we catch up to it now and again and I'm pretty sure there's still a fair few people who aren't watching Super until we get truly new content.ArchedThunder wrote:I'm betting 14's ratings are a bit better and then they start to go down again until we get near the climax of the F arc, similar to what has happened with the BoG arc. Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
So we maintain our 6th place, even if many series concluded in the week.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Decent position for Super. But I wonder what type of episode of Gintama was airing that peaked a lot of people's interest.
Spoiler:
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Gintama is very popular, but never really ranks among the top viewed anime, despite having a good timeslot. I guess almost all of its audience comes from DVR. Maybe because its fanbase is mostly older (especially females), and it airs at a time where many people are still outside - Tuesdays, 6pm.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
It would be hilarious if SSJ Satan episode would have the highest rankings during Super entire run. I can't even.
Not only its the first new episode content that we get since episode 2 in July (damn time flies), but also because its the real deal. Make it happen, japanese fellows!
11/10 Not even Heroes called that one.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
