Which is funny because the Cell arc is one of my least favourite arcs narratively.

On the subject of this episode though, it's amazing watching Shimanuki remember how to draw Dragon Ball a little more with every episode.

Head to the front page and look at how much he's improved.
Can Shimanuki just draw Piccolo every episode? Cause that'd be great.

Seriously though, I think I see some improvement from him as well.

Couple of the key animators of this episode are regulars from Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo R (2015)

So last week saw a tiny bit of World Trigger talent and this week saw some Kindaichi talent? Hopefully as the weeks go by that becomes more common until most of the staff from both of those shows work on Super.

Under ideal circumstances, this should be what a standard Dragon Ball Super episode should look like - competent drawings matched with decent movement.

I will admit that Final Flash packed quite a visual wallop! Touche, Dragon Ball Super. Touche.
Favorite Movies: Alien, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Thing, Evil Dead, The Land Before Time
Favorite Shows: Cardcaptor Sakura, Doctor Who, Wallace and Gromit, Wakfu, Yu Yu Hakusho
Favorite Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Ball

This episode looked really good, the art was perfect, the animation was also very nice this time in my opinion. If the art was always this good and consistent then I would like Super a lot more.

Episode 37

Image

Animation Supervisor:
Yuichi Karasawa & Jin Shui hu

Key Animators:
Karasawa Yuichi, Yamada Masashi, Ichino Maria, Kawamura Yuki, Ishii Tamaki, Ikai Kazuyuki, Nakaji Asuka, Oshita Tomoyuki, Kizaki Yukari, Hirabayashi Takashi, Yin Zhen Hui, Han Yong Xun, Jin Shui hu, Hwang Yong-sick, Na Xian Zhi, Tu Yeong-chaek, Jin Jun Wu, Sato Tomoko, Tezuka Emi, Kanetaka Rika, and Studio Myu.

What a wonderful episode. Not sure who did the cut at the start of Part B, but it was pretty nice. Really cool "pop" punches and the smoke effects were very pretty. More of that, please!

Shame the first half was so stiff, but eh, what can you do... It's Super.

Tate is up next week. Going to be one hell of an episode, I'm sure. Can't wait to deal with all the "MUH ON-MODEL" comments.

You forgot to mention Assistant animation supervisor Ono Ayumi. I think it's a new position in super?

Huh, I didn't even notice that. That's interesting.

A bunch of Korean animators and now an assistant supervisor.

Prior episodes have had assistant animation supervisors, actually.

EDIT: Like Episode #12.

Never noticed before. It's not the type of credit I've ever paid any mind.

Just looked through the credits and it seems that 12, 17, 23, and 25 were the only episodes so far to use that credit (and this one, of course).

It seems to be used in situations where production is rushed, although Pocket Monster XY uses them all the time, even on Iwane Masa'aki episodes.

The Super Saiyan Cabba stuff was incredible, easily the best stuff this arc so far.

I had a look at the Super version of the Goku vs Frieza fight and is it me or has the animation improved a lot since then?

And if so what was the reason?

Goku VS Freeza was the low point of the series, the final fight of the BoG arc was massively better than Goku vs Freeza.

I have no idea what on earth was going on with the Revival of 'F'. It was all over the place, with the most important episodes looking utter garbage.

I don't know if they were just trying to finish things up quickly to move onto future episodes or what, but it was a real mess.

The reason we're doing better now is because we gained an animation supervisor, so the rotation times between episodes are much longer. That coupled with the week off and the recap episode has helped the schedule quite a bit.

It definitely needs more help, but we're getting there. Slowly.

Oh, and here's the cool bit from tonight's episode. Added it to the main post, too.

I really want to know who animated this.

The art improved a great deal this episode. Dragonball characters actually looked like Dragonball characters.

You might want to change that link to a direct link... the ads on that site are NSFW...

So it's unlikely to get as bad as the end of the RoF saga anytime soon?

The episode I was referring to was Episode 24 which was damn ugly but the same guy did Episode 2 which was great and his other episodes seem alright.

Yamamuro has got the best drawings based on the OP images and he's only done the one episode unfortunately.
