Alright. I was mainly referring to the 'crane' shot, and was just looking in recent pictures because I didn't remember it. It was probably back somewhere in random set shots that I haven't looked at in a while.
AleezaChocolat wrote: (He's seems to understand Goku's basic personality well enough from Wong's script.) I mean, Rossum never even heard of DBZ prior to filming, and said she didn't look into the original series, because she thought the script was sufficient enough . . . and no one really seems to roast her about that. Just sayin'. *shrug*
The images we've seen portraying Bulma have all been accurate, thus no issue on her. The images portraying Son, not so much. And where has he ever given any indication that he understands Son? This most recent bit of text (that Son's kind and gentle) is the only thing that comes to mind as being in the right direction. You're saying Wong's script, so I'm pretty sure you don't mean that 128 page leaked thing. What script have we seen that has a proper Son Goku?

And also- I sorta gagged at the interview clip with the bully character. One- his character is unnecessary. Two- ..... what? Can that get more hokey? Three- did he just say something about being in the other movies? Because he isn't necessary in this one- why would he possibly show up again?

that 128 page leaked thing
That was fake.
What script have we seen that has a proper Son Goku?
We've not seen any real scripts or excerpts of one.

But the only reason anyone assumes we don't have a 'proper' Goku is because they're simply assuming we don't without any evidence.

Hmm, I probably didn't word my post all that well. Vegeta_DTX implied that just because Chatwin stumbled his way through one abrupt interview, that his new comments in Shonen Jump are somehow insincere, because he didn't know much, or anything, about Goku. All I meant is that we've only received two little blurbs from Chatwin (in Shonen Jump Japan) about Goku's character in the movie so far . . . and both have been fairly spot on, and that makes me believe that Wong's script, unlike the "leaked" one, is actually more faithful. So even if Chatwin didn't know jack squat about Goku's character and didn't research anything or whatnot . . . considering he described Goku well enough, I'd say Wong's script is should be sufficient.

Also, we basically know nothing about how Bulma's personality will be like in the movie, beyond Emmy's little Shonen Jump blurbs, as well, and that Emmy certainly wasn't a fan of the show . . . and yet most people don't complain much or say that she can't play Bulma 'cause she never watched the anime, or because she doesn't know much (or anything) about the original Bulma, etc. Kind of a double standard.

Say what you will about the recently released promo shots and how the actors look in 'em, but to judge someone's performance of a character, when we haven't even seen anything to criticize or praise about it yet, is something else and pretty premature. . . .

And, yeah . . . that interview with Texas Battle made my hopes sink a bit again. That stupid highschool stuff better be quick and the whole "Carey is Chi-Chi's bf! Will Goku steal her away?!" thing had better run by extremely fast. Then I might be able to pretend it isn't there. I consider myself pretty open to changes for an adaptation, buuuuttt . . . Dragonball honestly doesn't need to be a teenage-angst-filled movie. 'Course, this doesn't mean that it will be, but just the mentioning of high school and love triangles sends a bad, foreboding feeling in my stomach, haha.

Thank Kami. It was terrible.

The evidence thusfar is a guy who is "um.... yeah, I think he's important" and shows us lots of frownyfaces and checkered sweaters/not Sonlike clothes. Thus, all current information is bad. If he would give us any information on how he's doing him, I could have more faith in him. Combine that with bad memories of endless High School Fics and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

EDIT- AleezaChocolat, a note on what you said.

For me at least, Bulma does not seem a terribly complicated character as a kid. Combine her general personality with the PC stuff nowadays that will require a tough female character, roll this together with how she's being visually portrayed and she looks like she'll be just fine.

Son is also not a terribly complicated character- but roll together modern trends with his general personality and the images we’ve seen, and the message thus far is uncertain to bad.

I'm okay with modern as long as Goku still is Goku; the high school thing is the only thing that worries me when it comes to his character, really. I mean, we don't know much about the movie . . . the high school crap could last 10 minutes or maybe much longer; Goku could be all teenage-y and hitting on Chi-Chi, or he could just like Chi-Chi, yet be oblivious about anything else (flirting, etc.), maybe even oblivious to the fact that Carey Filler --- I mean, Fuller (hurhur) sees him as a romantic rival or something (which would definitely be more fitting). Who knows. Chatwin's comments on Goku's general characteristics are good to hear, anyway, but it is a bit iffy to hear about the other, more cliche and "high school drama!" aspects to the movie. . . .

I refuse to NOT give this movie a chance based on the fact that it isn't what I know the series to be.
I don't know is this supposed to be a sarcasm or what but I agree with this sentence.

And since I see you all post links, I hope I could post one, and you MUST see it, it made me laugh after soooo much time...

Has anyone seen pics of Piccolo's evil demon henchmen on Dbthemovie.com? They scare me.

Well they look pretty well designed to me. I'd like to actually see them in action. Because in most sci-fi movies, the henchmen and minions aren't very well designed and can't fight. I hope this movie is different. But from the way that the cast talks about how great James Wong was, I guess I can have hope.

I realize now I'm past the stage of being annoyed by the live action movie, now I just find it depressing.

You summed it up perfectly.

Seriously? Dragon Ball love triangles? Has James Wong ever picked up a volume of Dragon Ball before? Or did he read some episode summeries with screencaps and "filled-in-the-blanks"?

I think that almost everyone on this forum(The majority) is against the movie. Is Vegetto EX against it as well? I'd feel comfortable knowing that he at least doesn't hate the idea of this movie.

I don't think he really cares. It's not like its the end of the world or anything. I don't see what the surprise is. It has already been established for months that this "adaptation" isn't going to be panel for panel like the manga. I thought people would have gotten past that point way back in November.

I just don't care about the live action movie because to me it isn't Dragonball. Therefore, I'm ignoring it. It actually gives one quite a sense of peace when you simply don't acknowledge it. 8)

I feel the same about certain comics these days, though I'll probably at least give the film a crack in a theatre. Anywho, good luck burning Xyex's DVD. :P

Did I hear right that there are pics of Piccolo's henchmen?

On a separate issue, I remember some worries over the $100 million budget limit. Well, may I say I'm not worried in that regard. After seeing Joss Whedon's Serenity, which was made with only $39 million, I'm confident the special effects people won't have any problems with the nifty budget given. I'll still be worried about various certain plot elements being done to this adaptation, but I'll expect the best out of the SFX. And thank God the movie wasn't green-screened to death, real sets and locations means serious effort in my book.

I've done this with the X-Men movies. Life is much easier that way.

He actually mocks it a lot on his podcast (with good reason). Although he can't say anything too negative about it because then fans will be up his ass and bitching about how unfair he is.Just like how he refrains from talking about the dub(s) of DBZ and how much they suck in his opinion.

Anyway this whole "Carey" thing sealed the deal for a lot of fans, I joked about this movie a lot but there was a part of me thinking it may turn out fine but not even the most loyal of movie defenders can come up with a reason why Goku is acting like he's part of One Tree Hill. In the anime he couldn't even tell what a female was and when he finally figured it out he didn't even give a shit about gender differences, when did he ever show any indication of wanting a girlfriend? People came up with excuses for why he was in high school, why he dresses like a dork, why he collects fancy artwork and does paper work on his spare time why his best friend is Teto (sp?) but this just proves this movie is nothing more then raped cliche' Hollywood bullshit...that I honestly can't wait to see.

Problem is, when an "adaption" takes away everything that made the original charming, it becomes something else entirely.

I don't think anyone is asking for "panel-for-panel". We're asking for Dragon Ball in more than name, however. And so far, all the information we have, they might as well call the movie Magic Wishing Star Balls for all the connections it has to Dragon Ball.

I dunno. Maybe we read/watched a different show?

EDIT:
