I don't think it was fixed. In order to power him up, Gohan didn't undergo training, he just got another power up due to his seemingly unending potential, but yes, the Potara thing was contrived.

It was fixed in the sense that Gohan regrets not training and decides to take on the role of Earth's hero in the fight against Super Boo. It's GT and Super that later take that development away.

I don't recall any indication that he decided to take on the role permanently. I think Gohan deciding to not become a warrior was the right move. It helps make him unique.

Agreed on this one. I mentioned a couple times in regards to Episode 52 of Super, that if they're going this path with Gohan, that was the way to do it.

That development wasn't there in that context. Gohan never wanted to be "Earth's Hero" as a title, he was just guilty that he didn't live up to Goku & Vegeta's expectations after their reunion. GT was at least consistent with EoZ Gohan. Its just Super that put him completely in avoidance of fights. However, its more so justified because he doesn't have that pressure anymore. he isn't the last guy left. Goku is alive, a God now and they have God level tier characters to fight and allied with. He literally has no incentive now, especially with the Earth being normal.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Training a little to, at the very least, keep his power wouldn't stop him from doing what he wanted just like guys that keep fit still manage to have a life. Gohan actually became weaker.

Any mistake or flaw regarding the characters is always linked to the plot.

I'm getting really sick of the "treating these characters as real people" trend. As in, we should be happy that these characters have a great life and they they choice and we have to respect it. Which is completely ridiculous to me. I dlont remember who, but someone on here said it best.(Paraphrasing)
Tbh, I don't care if Gohan has a great life and living out his dream, that's great for Gohan, but for me, I don't care. I want to see these characters doing interesting stuff and kicking ass, not being a scholar.

And if the character isn't happy doing it or unnaturally falls into that line of action? I like Gohan as much as the next guy and I myself would love to see him be relevant but what's wrong with a characters being happy AND relevant? Him in high school having his various adventures in the filler was enjoyable for me. It was interesting to me. I had fun watching him have fun. Not saying fighting can't be fun but he seems pretty happy now. I just wish we could see more of him. I'm just saying he doesn't need to be the strongest character to be relevant. But he doesn't have to just lose all of his power at once either. Him fighting as Saiyaman and training Goten for fun was happily toned and I liked it. He may not have been "cool" to others but he was honestly enjoyable to me. Gohan fanboy or not. Specifically him training Goten and Videl. I always thought that could go somewhere or maybe he could've had different adventures with Goten like Goku did with his friends in Dragon Ball. That's one thing I felt the Boo arc did well in it's early stages before the Tournament. It kept him relevant AND happy. And that's personally what's most important to me tbh.

Fair point, but for me, it's not so much being happy as it is that he's not just like every other warrior in the series. Him being a scholar isn't that interesting in the midst of the story, but at the end, it is a fitting end for his character and that's why it works for me.

Fair point, but I'm not talking about Gohan, I'm talking about the fact that some people treat these characters like real people.

There's nothing stopping Gohan from being a scholar and still be a relevant fighting force because he trains and keeps up with his work at the same time. All they really had to say was "Oh, Gohan managed to keep improving despite his work". That's all the justification the story would require for both things to happen.

I actually like the "KKRRKKKTRRR" noises that the Japanese actors make in DB. And I find it's not just them but the Arabic dub and the Korean dub as well. I wish other dubs would do it too. It sounds intense to me like they're gritting their teeth.

I wish that the english dub would start doing that too. Not all the time, but just sometimes to help mix it up a little. The ape grunting gets old sometimes.

Agreed. Funimation has skyrocketed in terms of voice acting but I can still understand the "constipation" complaints when it comes to them screaming sometimes. I also wish that they would use more echos and sound effects.

All over other forums, YouTube, and even whenever I occasionally meet a fellow Dragon Ball fan in real life, I find the reverence for the dub and total ignorance, if not outright mockery of the original Japanese audio, to be infuriating. I just can not take anybody seriously if their only exposure to the series is the original FUNimation dub back on Toonami when they were 10, it doesn't matter if they're wearing a Goku shirt.

So I come here to talk with like-minded people, only to find the exact opposite, every single thread just divulges into a circle-jerk about how every person involved with the dub is an awful actor. And I get equally infuriated because I remember that I love the dub.

This must be what it's like to get stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Really now? I've been on this forum for months now and I've never heard someone say that everyone involved was awful. Maybe some like Nadolny or someone else they don't like but not every single person involved. Also, this isn't aimed towards specifically you, but why do people keep using the term "circle-jerk" every time a group happens to agree about something? I've seen it used to describe things from Japanese DB to the Japanese actors.

Yes, I am exaggerating. I haven't seen anybody use the exact statement "every person involved with the dub is a terrible actor." But you understand what I mean. People often call out specific dub actors, even Sabat who I see as one of the most talented voice actors in America, and call them terrible. When a dub actor is brought up on Kanzenshuu, it's to talk about how bad they are. No exceptions. The sheer consistency of this discussion irritates me, it's not a once in awhile thing, it's almost like the entire forum exists to talk about how unskilled we think the dub actors are. Sometimes it's difficult to find a thread that isn't just talking about how bad the dub actors are.

My apologies, I take things very literally from time to time. But if someone doesn't like a certain voice actor or actress and it comes up from time to time then maybe that opinion is just widely spread on here. There's no-one who just goes to each thread to make the same insults to the Funi actors repeatedly. That person would've been gone by now because the mods wouldn't allow that kinda disruption. But opinions are opinions. If a lot of people dislike it on here then a lot of people dislike it. That's not to say everyone here hates the Funi voices but this site is mainly centered around the original version of the franchise.

Although the term "circle-jerk" can be said from a place of insecurity, that shouldn't distort another unfortunate reality concerning "circle-jerks" in forums. In that particular case, it's not necessarily about multiple users agreeing about the quality of a product, whether good or bad. Rather, it's having an empty discussion where rather than actually committing to discourse that actually delves into a matter of learning new perspectives, most of it revolves around stroking each other's egos in a self-congratulatory, elitist sort of way and validating biases that don't conflict with each other. It leaves a bad impression on new users that might think that unless they conform to the "status quo", their opinions will be viciously shut down and they'll be faced with scorn from the self-important, especially if moderators turn a blind eye to it all and/or willingly take part it in.

I suppose in nickzambuto's case, he feels as though dub actors, specifically the FUNi cast if my deduction is reasonable, are fair game when it comes to forum-wide ridicule, no matter how much it might compromise the validity of order and integrity that the rules promise to uphold. That's just my take on it based on what he said and my actual experiences dealing with forum circle-jerks. Thing is, if Kanzenshuu really were like that, then I think some very infamous users would still be allowed to post here today. Ain't that the truth?

My point was that it's a double-edged sword; I come to Kanzenshuu to escape the endless dub reverence and mockery of the sub from other forums, YouTube, and even real life. Only to find the reverse on Kanzenshuu, reverence for the sub and mockery of the dub. I like both, so that leaves me with no options. Something I like is getting relentlessly mocked no matter what. I was just being tongue-and-cheek with the comment, it was supposed to be half-funny how I'm basically stuck between a rock and a hard place.
