Yamamuro can draw on-model just fine; he is the character designer, after all.

He's not a particularly good animator, though. I'm pretty fine with him staying away from Super for now.

My favourite shot in the entire episode:
Now that is one intimidating Vegeta.

Can someone with access to a high quality raw piece together the full image of the Hit pan at the end of the episode?

Man, I loved that shot. I reminded me of something I would see during the animation and art style high points of the Android/Cell arc.

Man, the storyboarding and directing for this episode was very nice. Also, I like the way Karasawa draws Piccolo.

There you go. It's not perfect since they did some weird resizing nonsense during the pan and I'm way too lazy to fix it.

On another note, I want to point out some things from the episode.

Firstly, they fixed Vegeta's wonky eye from last week's preview. Here's a comparison:
Also, as much as I enjoy the new ending song, Yamamuro is once again showing his lack of imagination. Yet another addition to his same old Kamehameha pose:
I understand that they're all based on Toriyama's famous image, but you'd think he'd start to vary his poses a bit more?! It's all feeling a little samey.

There were similar issues with his storyboard for Resurrection 'F'. He seemed to reuse a lot of poses over and over.

Anyway...

Tate next week! So much movement going on. I think he's going to go crazy with this fight! I love this shot.

Thanks Ajay. Yeah I noticed they fixed Vegeta's eye too, it jumped out at me immediately, hopefully they fix the error where he has Gold hair one shot after he went Blue in the DVD/Bluray.

I'm really excited for the next episode, I'm surprised I haven't seen any bitching about Tate's art, people seem to busy admiring the animation.
I really love Hit's stance, is it based on a real life stance of some kind?

Oh, there's plenty of that nonsense already. Couple of comments in the episode discussion thread on here and even more on Reddit.

They'll whine even harder next week.

Yeah, there were indeed people upset about Tate already. It's fine if you don't like his style, but yeesh. I was more surprised to hear that there were a fair amount of people in the One Piece community that disliked him. His One Piece stuff was so good!

I personally thought there were some interesting looking sequences in the NEP. Hit's fighting style seems to work really well under Tate. I'm pretty excited.

How anyone call dislike Tate's One Piece work is beyond me. I suppose it's the same people who think Hosoda's Movie 6 was bad. No accounting for taste, I guess.

There's people out there who call Shida's work bad entirely based on inbetween frames. Blows my mind.

What??? Really? But... but Shida is so good! How? Why? That's so bizarre. What do people want, perfection?

The strong side of Tate is the MOVEMENT, but I have always and will always criticize the way he deforms the bodies supposedly to enhance the illusion of movement and/or velocity the characters are performing and of course, the in between frames that sometimes look pretty pretty bad. Like in episode 5. And sometimes I feel like he relies too much on blurry shots.

But he does have very good scenes and next episode actually looks like it will be rich in movement.

Also, I feel like there's something personal against Yamamuro in this page.

I think Tate and One Piece go hand-in-hand, his style is perfectly suited for Luffy's movement especially (being a rubber man and all), but I think for Dragonball the jellyformism can be a little too distracting and surreal. It's all about stylistic consistency at the end of the day I guess; but it's unfair for people to label him as a bad animator - as that's definitely not the case.

To describe what I mean about his cuts in Super, sometimes it can feel a little bit like going to a Monet exhibition and coming across the odd Picasso.

Every in-between frame from every animated thing ever looks bad. Their purpose isn't to look good.

I perfectly understand that, but there is a point where it starts to affect the episode negatively.

I just feel like Tate focuses too much on the movement, to the detriment of his art style. And I'm not saying thats necessarily bad, but its not well suited for Dragon Ball.

As someone said previously, his style suits One Piece much more than it does DB. But I still believe he can do pretty good stuff and I consider him a good animator overall. The fight scene between Goku and Vegeta in DBS episode 32 in the RoSaT is AWESOME!!! There's a nice balance there.

I think Karasawa is quickly becoming one of my favorite supervisors in terms of on-model, fluid animation. The episodes he has handled have been some of my favorites so far and the way the action was handled in this episode sealed the deal. It made me feel like I was watching Dragon Ball again which I can't say for many of the previous episodes.

Ajay, the link in the OP for the Vegeta Cabba fight isn't a direct link, like I said before, that site has NSFW ads.

So who's the guy responsible for the shiney effect super has? It's been going on since GT and I wanna know who's the monster responsible.
