Okay, calmed down now. Thoughts:
Morio Hatano is a spectacular director, and it's rare that I pay all that much attention to the directing in Super, so I guess that says a lot. One of Super's biggest flaws is that, even during its most climactic moments, it rarely manages to convey the necessary scale and impact for what the scene dictates. That is not an issue at all, here. It is grand in almost every sense of the word and never lingered too long in places that Super often drags.
Shida's scene was wonderful, of course. As it was quite long, it didn't quite have the same level of push-pull camera work that his work normally entails. That said, what we did get was incredibly well done, and seemed like a nice combination of more 'classic' Dragon Ball action and the contemporary styles found today. Really nicely done.
I'll have to go and rewatch Otsuka's scenes to get a better feel for them, but they definitely echoed Shida's work above where you have a wonderful mix of sharp and loose movement. Gotta love a guy who draws everything with the angles of a mech.
I was quite surprised to see Shimanuki doing actual animation himself, here. It was actually a pretty nice step-up from the horrendously stiff work we've seen in the past. It certainly wasn't perfect, but I appreciated the classic vibe he brought with it.
Perhaps most interestingly is Kenji Miuma's presence. He's a pretty well known PreCure animator. I have no idea what he did yet, but I imagine it was probably pretty good. His work is usually quite effects heavy, so it should be easy enough to spot (I hope!).
There's just so much to talk about. So much to cover. I'll have to rewatch this a few times before I can put together a proper list of who did what. So yeah. Great stuff! Super's best animated episode by a mile and I struggle to think of much in the prior series that comes close, either. The plot is a different matter, but... that isn't for this thread.

This episode was beautiful. And I guess Shiminuki was mostly doing corrections after all?

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65
I guess the last episode was a little rough because Ishikawa and Tate were also helping out with this one? That's fine by me.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65
Ken Otsuka just posted this on Twitter next to what he did on the episode:

According to Herms' translation of the tweet, he did everything from when Trunks' sword got big up to the end.

Holy Shit! that episode was incredible, although i was sad we didn't get a whole lot of vegetto, what we did see was amazing.
I may have exploded in my pants.
BTW, i swear i saw a bit of Tate, maybe I'm mistaken. If so, what a fucking star studded cast.

I think he may have done multiple cuts, he was even the top credited animator.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:How long was Shida's cut exactly?

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65
I just realized Tsuji was a key animator and the Chief Supervisor.
Guess they aren't shifting to one Chief Supervisor and Ide was doing all these previous episodes because Tsuji was busy with this one.

Okay, I edited my proper initial thoughts above.
Again, that was such an action-packed episode that it's impossible to take it all in in one sitting. Will definitely need time to rewatch, digest, and analyse it properly.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65
Any idea who did the little bit of action between Goku and Zamasu after the Kamehameha? That was pretty nice.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65
All the way at the start? I'm fairly sure that was Higashide's work. Looked a lot like the stuff he did in #61.ArchedThunder wrote:Any idea who did the little but of action between Goku and Zamasu after the Kamehameha? That was pretty nice.

This episode truly lived up to the hype. Spectacular animation from start to finish and without a doubt the best looking episode Super has produced by a country mile.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65
So Karasawa, Shimanuki, Kitano, Ishikawa, Manabe, Takamura and Tsuji all did animation and Tate did some corrections, they really pulled everyone this could from Super's staff since Toei is so thinly spread right now, and honestly the ups and downs in the animation in the past few episodes was totally worth it. The fact that the NEP looked totally fine really surprised me too. Hopefully the next couple episodes have no action so that the supervisors have time to spread back out after this ensemble staff.

These have got to be some of my favorite shots in Super.

I think those might be Jin Inaba's work. They remind me of what a few people guessed was his work in the Future Trunks special.
EDIT: On second thought, Ishikawa might also be a candidate. They have that youthfulness about them, not to mention the eye reflections.

I'm kinda surprised that Yokoyama Miyuki wasn't on this episode, but we only had one credited 2nd Key Animator so I guess there wasn't much of a need and she might be doing tons of correction work on 67.

I'd go as say Dragon Ball as a whole. Shame it was bogged down with questionable writing.Lord Beerus wrote:This episode truly lived up to the hype. Spectacular animation from start to finish and without a doubt the best looking episode Super has produced by a country mile.

I'm gonna re-watch the episode in HD to get a better perspective. But yeah, I'd say it's the best episode the Dragon Ball anime franchise has ever produced.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I'd go as say Dragon Ball as a whole. Here's Shida's cut:
It's more like 60 seconds long, but the booru prefers if you cut out stills and whatnot, so I trimmed it a little.
