Also, Chuquita, do you understand Japanese? Just curious by some of the stuff you are saying about 2 chan. Kinda random but...yeah. :P
I'm at about the equivalent of someone whose finished Japanese 1. I've only really got the basics. I can read hiragana and katakana; for kanji I use a dictionary. Because BOG is the first time in a while I've wanted to translate stuff so often and heavily, I'm just not as fast as those with deeper knowledge of the language.

The reason I'm still checking in on the 2ch thread over the magazine break is there's always a chance that new movie info might appear that comes from a source outside of the magazines (like with FLOW's Cha-La getting a play on the radio).

Regarding the magazines, from other sources I've followed, I do know that it's likely the next issue of Jump's news leaks most likely won't appear until around the 16th or 17th of the month due to all those double-issues they printed at the end of last year/beginning of this year.

That's cool! I'm currently doing a Rosetta stone course offered at my High School. Still got a longs way to go to get to your level though! #Shonenspirit

Also, I'm somewhat new to how releases go in Japan concerning anime like this, but this movie will be released the same way a typical theatrical film would get released here, right? And, if said release does come out before Funimation (of Fox?) comes out with it here, will any of bother importing it?

Rosetta stone's good. I know people who use it. :3

The U.S. is in the same blu-ray region as Japan...it all depends on when Funi gets a hold of the license; because I know Funi will sell it at a cheaper price (DVD's in Japan are excessively more expensive than those in the U.S; plus there's the exchange rate to consider). As long as Funimation's able to get it and do a release within a reasonable amount of time, I'll wait for the local release. However, if something bizarre goes down and somehow they can't get it and it's stuck in limbo somewhere like the Jump 08 special, then I'll probably import instead. For now, I'll just wait and see what Funi says about BOG over the next couple months.

I've listened to the FLOW cover of Cha-la Head-cha-la a few times now. I think it's a fitting modern update to the song...though at the part where the lyrics go "kibun wa" I expect them to go "JIBUN WOOOOO" instead

With the earlier mention (like, dozens of pages ago now) of FOX being involved with international distribution, I hope that we're able to see this movie internationally not too long after its release, hopefully within 6 months (my dream of them having a same-day premiere at Sakura Con is probably too much to hope for, given that Toei is involved and they can be bitches about their properties :P ). Whether they do some con showings, or bring it around the art-house theater circuit, I don't care! I just want to consume it with my eyeballs as soon as possible! Shit, I know a couple of people staying in Japan...maybe this year's vacation will involve a trip to Japan that is totally not influenced by my desire to watch a movie made for elementary school aged Japanese boys (...is what I'd tell my husband, but he already knows that's a lie  )

I am very worried that Funimation will not get the rights to release this, and Fox will butcher the shit out of it, dumb it down for kids, and release it with songs done by Nickleback, Disturbed, and any lame ass bands that I can think. It will be 1996-2009 all over again.

We'll just have to let TOEI decide what needs to be done. I would love for FUNimation to dub since a couple of my friends have warmed up to the Kai English dub. If not then...well I could always ignore whatever dub is produced by Fox if turns out shitty.

This situation is kind of like the opposite of 1999 in a way, wanting present-day Funi to control the dubbing of BOG because Funi's a different company now than they were back then and fearing that another company might take it into their own hands away from Funi's control. I'm certain that if FOX were to dub it, they'd mess up the dub and they might not even have a Japanese audio option on the U.S. release. In that worst-case-scenario, I'd have to import the Japanese release.

*Hopes Funi can license BOG and save the day for the U.S. home release and dubbing.*

As far as I know, FUNimation still has the rights to dub the series. Plus everyone should realize FOX also exists in Japan, if I recall they did a pretty decent job dubbing Dragonball Evolution.

And you all know you want Justin Chatwin to voice Goku.

I doubt they are going to tone down the movie for kids or throw in stupid rock music in the movie. Those days are long over and I'm pretty sure the movie will likely get a PG rating from the MPAA if they do a screening for the movie. Fusion Reborn was rated PG and I don't think they edited anything out to get a PG rating.

But they could show Master Roshi doing something perverted, snip gone, all because Fox had to touch it. I am just saying, I am not pleased with Fox being behind this. My GF read a few months ago that Avril Lavene was covering a Nickleback song for a new anime movie...what if it was for DBZ? I highly doubt it, but I am in the middle here thinking there is a 50/50 chance Fox will indeed screw this up, or they collaborate with Funimation and let them handle the dub and give it a proper uncut release.

Big studios don't care for the original voice actors. If you listen to the Beavis and Butt-head Do America commentary, Mike Judge said they wanted to get big name celebrities to do the voices to characters he already voiced. I believe the same goes with the South Park movie. Or even the Jetsons movie, they replaced the voice of Judy with Tiffany. It's so damn pointless, studio executives only care about what they want and what they will think will sell. Maybe I am just over thinking on this one.

It was for the original Japanese version of One Piece Z, and she did two songs: "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback and "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett.

I still highly doubt we are going to get any big name stars and people should not worry about it. I can't see Fox wasting money on big name stars on a movie that might end up being shown at cons and film festivals. Not to mention I doubt any big name stars would want to be in this film since they are busy with other movies or will take DBZ as a total joke.

Might as well higher Nicolas Cage. He would still suck but anything beats Chatwin.

FOX knows that if they were to dub Battle of Gods the American fanbase for the movie would be non-existant, as well as box office sales (if it's released in theatres) and home media sales (save for the little kids growing up on KAI because they don't care about this stuff, they just want to watch Goku punch the crap out of someone). They know what long time fans want, and that's for FUNimation to dub it themselves. Reasons why they never made a Dragonball Evolution sequel, they probably don't want to risk messing with the original Z formula because it'll piss of the majority of fans. For KAI it had to be done because some voice actors just couldn't repside their roles, but for Battle of Gods they more or less have a choice. If it does, and I pay to God it doesn't, get dubbed by an all-star Hollywood team then I probably won't watch it if I have to pay for it.

Hardly. The dub fanbase is just as powerlessly niche as the sub fanbase. Re-casting isn't going to hurt a dubbed theatrical release of the movie.

Would it be rude if I asked why so many of you are paranoid about the stateside release of this movie? I mean, what has Fox done to warrant this amount of fear? Evolution? That's a very different case, they should not have as much power as they did with one of their own efforts.

That was also a very different scenario. Oda,the creator of One Piece, requested for those songs like he did with Strong World and Mr. Children.

I can understand some level of paranoia, but I think we're all getting a little ahead of ourselves. The movie's not even out in Japan yet, it's still too early to really worry about what's going to happen stateside, don't you think? I just hope we get it, that's all. Though obviously, I too want FUNi to get it without any interference from Fox, but like AgitoZ said, Evolution and this are two entirely different situations.

Plus Evolution released nearly 4 years ago, no one from the same crew would be involved I'm sure. FOX didn't create Evolution, James Wong and his writers/producers/cast/other crew did.

Why people think if Fox is releasing the movie then they will throw in big name stars? A big name studio dubbing something does not mean that they will have big name actors in it. When Sony dubbed Godzilla 2000 back in 2000, they didn't have Matthew Broderick dubbed the main characters.

Evoultion never got a sequel because it didn't make enough money and received negative reviews. Movies tend to get sequels if they triple of its estimated budget. DBE only made $9,362,785 in the US and $57,497,699 worldwide on a 35 million budget.

While I'm not overly worried about the dub (which is why I referred to FOX dubbing it themselves as a worst-case scenario; I don't know what the chances of that happening are) I think the main thing is a lot of people were burned by DBE at the time (supposedly even Toriyama was upset at the LAM if that statement about working super-hard on BOG after seeing what DBE turned out to be is true), and even though that event is now a good ways past, everyone thought we were done with having FOX involve itself in the franchise and are obviously leery of seeing their logo anywhere on the property due to bad memories, even if it's just in a distribution setting. Funi on the other hand, has come a long ways to proving that it can handle the franchise in a mostly-competent manner; obviously a number of people would prefer Funi strike a deal and be able to be the ones to dub it (most likely with their Kai voice cast).

That said, I'm way more interested in BOG's plot than I am in the possible localization of it. Still hoping for some additional storyline spoilers before the month is out. (Come on, explanation for smiley!Vegeta; it's been two months, reveal the plot-point related to that figurine!)
