Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
English isn't my natural language and I can understand just fine.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I'd say the only somewhat odd dialogue on this page in #18's second sentence. "Kuririn filled me in" would have also been a better phrasing.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I bet he did.JulieYBM wrote:"Kuririn filled me in"
I think if they simply put "about" after "me", it would sound fine.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
What doesn't help is the original dialogue, lately. More and more, I find it's a cross between casual diction, slang and flat-out bad grammar.Zionist wrote:They are in dire need of a good translator.....Someone please help them this dialogue, it's just terrible and getting worse
The original statement from #18 actually reads in French as "Krillin explained to me." which is just as weird in French as it is in English. Either it's a very local slang I'm not familar with or the orginal simply has a word missing, which may be why the English translation is so awkward there.
Broly's statement has no need for the ellipses in either English or French, so it seems the English translator took it as a grammatical error and replaced it with a comma. However, they dropped the verb and subject for some reason. Any choice of "You are/Are you/You're" should be starting this sentence. It's not a major change, but a needless one that arguably changes the tone of his phrasing (read on for how and why).
A direct translation of Vegeta's statement isn't possible, getting us something along the lines of "You know to newly speak, you?..." I take it to mean a cross between a sarcastic comment on him knowing how to speak (like the one used in this translation) and commenting on how Broly's diction seems higher than the last time they met. His diction being higher implies that Broly's statement isn't just a casual statement like the one used.
All that in mind, here's how I'd translate the original:
#18: Krillin explained everything to me. I'll take care of searching for the little ones. Go and fight, Gohan.
Broly: Are you no longer afraid of me... Prince Vegeta?
Vegeta: You finally learned how to speak, did you? ...

Yeah, this page was actually fine.Senzu_Bean wrote:English isn't my natural language and I can understand just fine.
Anyways, is #18 giving energy to Gohan or is she about to fire a blast?

I think she is just using it for light.

That would make sense, but I don't think we see anyone doing that in the actual Anime.Makaioshin wrote:I think she is just using it for light.

We never see them in a situation in which they would need to.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:That would make sense, but I don't think we see anyone doing that in the actual Anime.Makaioshin wrote:I think she is just using it for light.
18 can't sense ki(correct me if I'm wrong) so she would need the light to find the kids/Gohan. She was also seen doing the same thing in the page before this one so I doubt she was giving Gohan ki before she confronted him or was charging a blast when she just said she would look for the kids.

Yeah, she's just using it as light since she can't sense ki.

Awesome page. This special is the best one by far. Vegeta is fighting evenly, Gohan is a badass and Broly can talk. And the art has improved a lot. What do you guys think? Better than Movie 10?

Better than Movie 10? Sure why not... I like seeing a guy get smacked around as much as the next guy, but I don't really care. I don't hate Broly, but I don't like him. Personally I think he gets way too much attention around here because of the haters.
It's become the cool thing to hate on Broly. He's like Dragon Ball's Glen Beck.

Bahaha, I think you hit the nail right on the head there.Innagadadavida wrote:It's become the cool thing to hate on Broly. He's like Dragon Ball's Glen Beck.
I'm enjoying this special, comparatively speaking. I...actually haven't seen Movie 10, so I guess I couldn't say if this is better or worse though. From what I've heard, though, I would venture to guess better...
I've only seen the first of the Broly movies, so maybe my main problem is that I don't get what all the fuss is about for two reasons rather than just one. (That is, maybe there is a good reason for people to include Broly in so very, very much of the plot, etc., and I don't know it because I haven't seen the other movies -- so I technically can't complain, haha.) I mean, he's not the most interesting character to me, so mostly I'm bothered by that. I mean, there are so many other characters...! Ah well. (I obviously still like it enough that I've kept reading it, heh.)

He's a large bumbling idiot with wacked out followers. Rational people generally ignore him.ShiningMoon wrote:Bahaha, I think you hit the nail right on the head there.

Vegeta's last line doesn't make any sense, Broly knew how to speak in the first special, before going LSSJ.Dayspring wrote:All that in mind, here's how I'd translate the original:

I don't get it why lately people are bashing not only the translation but the dialogue itself. Or it's my language a lot weird or it's you that are nip-ticking far beyond you should. Translating what is said in English to Portuguese it makes perfectly sense.

Yeah, some are bashing the dialog and translation way too much.
What is being said is perfectly understandable and not that weird at all.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
He is one of the more interesting characters, with far deeper mental background, if you a) ignore movie 10 (11 doesn't count as it's not even him) and b) don't dumb movie 8 down because you either don't like the character or expect him to have as dumb a basis as the other movie villains. Tapion's the only movie original character that had more work put into him than Broly.ShiningMoon wrote:I've only seen the first of the Broly movies, so maybe my main problem is that I don't get what all the fuss is about for two reasons rather than just one. To be fair, you kind of ignored the rest of my post.Senzu_Bean wrote:Vegeta's last line doesn't make any sense, Broly knew how to speak in the first special, before going LSSJ.Dayspring wrote:All that in mind, here's how I'd translate the original:

EDIT: And just to be clear, when I provide my own translations, it's not to harp on some shoddy translation. I've said it a few times now that the translator, for the most part, is doing a damn fine job with what he has to work with.
And yeah, like Xyex said, the only two movie characters who ever had serious character development were Tapion and Broly, so the reason so many fans are Broly fanboys is because of the two, he's super strong and evil.
