Gohan was sidelined before because his character arc was done all the way back in the Cell Saga. Now he just repeats himself. He studies, he slacks off, he gets cheap "awakened potential, has to fight against his doubts, then ultimately becomes billy badass or wins outright. How many times do we have to see the same old shit? I don't want to see this geek stuck in an endless cycle of his own doubt and laziness. For some bizarre reason there are people actually wanting him to win this tournament which is so baffling words fail me.

There is really no evidence of that. He wasnt hyped up any harder than Android 17 who hes probably similar in strength to.
Not to mention we dont even know what their plans are for him in this arc.

You never realise how hated Gohan is, until he gets a tiny bit of spotlight in Super for; he hasn't even been in half of the series' episodes but now he's back and he's somewhat relevant, it's just so negative otherwise I'm looking forward to the SSB explanation though, should be pretty good, I'm hoping it explains both Goku and Vegeta's transformations well..

Yeah...advanced planets with decent civilizations, because you were annoyed by their food. Liquir, Geene and Arak for example seem to just destroy what is needed and nothing more, not just destroy planets with ningen life even though there are barely 30 in the whole universe. It's a vocal minority. Gohan is very much a popular character and some people can't deal with that for whatever reason. Even when he was absent from Super he was still getting plenty of spotlight in merchandise and video games. Now that he IS back in the show proper he's been even more prominent in cross-promotions in general so it's no surprise people are coming out of the woodwork to throw a bunch of hate around unwarranted. If anything people should be happy the extended cast is relevant again. The Goku and Vegeta show is simply too boring.

You know, when you reduced Super to 'Goku and Vegeta' you're ignoring characters like Whis and Beerus who played a major role in every story arc. In the Future Trunks Saga you had Trunks and Gowasu.
Just because Super doesn't focus on the old guard doesn't mean you can just pretend that no secondary characters do anything.

I think a lot of the negativity directed toward Gohan is in part backlash against the...overly enthusiastic part of his fanbase. I like Gohan but it is really obnoxious when he appears on screen for 5 seconds doing nothing and my recommended videos list suddenly becomes flooded with clickbait like "GOHAN HAS THE BANG. MY BOY is BACK."

Yeah that sort of stuff isn't very desirable, I agree. I'm not a fan of the "DB YouTube clickbait scene" in general. But again it's only a small part of the larger picture and one easily ignored.

Tell me about it. I am still sore at Gohan fans talking about his bangs after Trunks lost his timeline and is forced to accept that he failed to protect the world. They turned a touching moment between Trunks and Gohan to "OMG, Gohan has bangs! He's training! He's back!"

Pretty sure I spelled that reason out in no uncertain terms. I'll do so again.
- Almost never earns his powers: Went from someone who had slacked off for years and crushed by Frieza's first form to gaining all his lost power back and more, in a mere 2 hours by awakening a form he literally just had to sit on his ass to get.
- It's the same arc we've seen in the cell saga and the buu saga, as I explained in my previous post. He overcame his own fear and doubt three times now. After they keep coming back every time they make him prominent.
Bonus: He's just a bland nice guy. No attitude. No humour.
Are my reasons for hating this character clear enough for you now?
