Maybe instead of creating Goten Toriyama should've kept future trunks around. Maybe have him reach Super Saiyan 3 and fight Super Buu instead.

No, Future Trunks' story was already done. Besides, present Trunks was already a thing by the time the Cell Arc ended. Toriyama should have just dropped Goten and elaborated more on Trunks.Barunks wrote:Maybe instead of creating Goten Toriyama should've kept future trunks around. I do wish they'd draw him with a bit more ferocity. Though, I guess them not doing so is meant to be the point. You know, character development and all that.

The Freeza narration was cute, though.

You sound like Goten is outgoing, for me he is not shy only in front of his family, which is just normal. Then, he gradually recognizes the other Z Fighters as their friends and became more at ease. Also we get to see the diferences between them in their first official fight in the Budokai. Goten is humble, while Trunks acts as a mini Vegeta.Kamiccolo9 wrote:Aside from when he first saw Goku, when was Goten ever shy?
And why are we viewing being in charge of the richest company on Earth as a bad thing?
And well, I don't thing it is really interesting being in charge of the world's most important company if you can do something more interesting like... dating girls. They are teenagers!
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
That symbol really does look like if in-universe, one of the characters drew it on there with a sharpie. I could actually see that happening. Instead of them getting "school uniforms", Whis just draws the symbol on their shirts (like how Gohan and Videl had those badges at their high school instead of uniforms).

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
There's a difference between "shy" and "not all that outgoing." Goten is never depicted as shy, except when he first met Goku. He's never shy around Piccolo, who is probably the one he spends the most time with in the Buu Arc, nor is he particularly shy to anyone at the Budokai. The humbleness is just him being polite.Hugo Boss wrote:You sound like Goten is outgoing, for me he is not shy only in front of his family, which is just normal. I'm not seeing your point about Trunks. He's the richest teenager in the world. He can get all the dates he wants.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Yes, when you mentioned Goku's first meeting with Goten I remembered his reaction. In English "shy" was not exactly the word I was looking for, "polite" is the one, or maybe "humble", in contrast to Trunks, who talks like he knows a thing when he isn't well versed of what he is talking about.Kamiccolo9 wrote:There's a difference between "shy" and "not all that outgoing." My point about Teen Trunks is that I don't see any reason for a 18-year kid to be in charge of a company. That sounds so unrealistic, well. Trunks doesn't seem he has interest in girls like he has for money. Goten surprised me in that regard.

So what can anyone tell us (JulieYBM, Kei17) about Shinzo Yuki the art director of this movie, if anything at all?

There is a pic (already posted) with Beerus spitting in the official webpage. Maybe he will not fight Freeza because he has caught a cold? I can see it happening

I wonder if that shot of Goku going SSJ while wearing his old gi is going to be in the movie... maybe they show them training before they get their new uniforms.JulieYBM wrote:A new video has appeared, I'm not quite sure it says anything new, though. CinemaToday has a write-up on it, though.

If a stomachache can incapacitate the mighty Mr. Satan, then I guess a cold should be more than enough to take down the weaker Beerus.dodonpa wrote:There is a pic (already posted) with Beerus spitting in the official webpage. Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Not an animation specialist, but looked up Shinzo Yuki on ANN's encyclopedia because I'm curious. He's art directed in stuff I've enjoyed in the past.
Scrolling through:
-DBZ Movie 8 (Oh Brolololli. :3 )
-Futari wa Precure (episodes, the movies, and Max Heart; early precure like Futari wa tends more towards DB-style fighting than sentai)
-Both Precure 5 movies (I remember really enjoying these)
-That old Sonic CD 2D animation stuff (I recall that looking really cool, but it was a long while ago).
DB (not Z) movie 2 is also listed there, but I barely remember that one.
There's a lot of other listings there too where he's done background art and other stuff, but the above are ones I've seen that he has also been credited as Art Director

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
I agree with everything in this post. I used to like Goten when I was younger, but now I don't care about him. I find his character useless since the story can be just fine without him and Kid Trunks. Kid Trunks would have been better if he was not so annoying in the Buu saga. Kid Trunks grew up to a boring and lame version of Future Trunks in GT. I'm totally fine with Goten and Trunks only having cameos in the movie.RandomGuy96 wrote:Yep. Goten is just kinda... there. Trunks has at least some personality, but Goten? His personality is just "cheerful child who follows Trunks around". His design is literally just kid Goku in a different outfit. The only techniques he knows are flight and the Kamehameha (unless you count generic little ki bullets). His only solo fights have been with Trunks and Abo, both of which weren't life-and-death battles, but just games. He's just very generic, and exists entirely to give Trunks a higher power level so he can be Gotenks. Who, as noted, is basically just an exaggerated version of Trunks with almost no Goten in there. To be honest I used to love them as a kid growing up with the series, but watching the series again later on... every time I see them, nothing sparks. I have no excitement for them.

Art Directors are in charge of designing and supervising the drawing of the backgrounds (buildings, foliage, houses) unless those items are moving (which would then be drawn by the key animator and supervised by the animation supervisor). I don't follow those as well as I should but if that trailer is anything to go by we're not in for some great stuff.

It's wasn't anything terrible, but it's definitely lacking compared to other modern day anime films & OVAs. It's a shame, too; you'd figure one of the most recognizable franchises in the genre would have nicer looking art/animation than what the Jump special/Battle of Gods had. Not to mention Kai's awful-looking redrawn scenes.JulieYBM wrote:if that trailer is anything to go by we're not in for some great stuff.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Thinking back to the BOG trailer, we saw a lot of stuff that was largely unfinished. Beerus chucking his attack at Goku was completely different in the final film, as was Goku's Kamehameha. I'm guessing they were place-holders that were quickly slapped together for the sole purpose of appearing in promotional material. A lot of stuff from the first trailer was also replaced by CGI, most notably Beerus' home- and I have to say it looked a lot nicer in the initial trailer.
I have to wonder what changes we'll see from the footage used in the first ROF trailer to the final film. I expect to see a lot more CGI, especially since the film will be in 3D. Not sure why, but I get the feeling the scene with Freeza's ship landing will be changed up a bit.
