I think the fact that the girl is fat and frowning is supposed to show that she's ugly. Not the fact that she's Asian.

Attitudefan wrote:Well, to be fair, in one of the chapters/episodes of Dragonball, when Roshi tells Goku to look for a hot woman he shows Goku 2 pictures. One looks more like Bulma, (the character in the picture reminds me of Marilyn Monroe) and the other is a fat oriental chick. The way the facial features are drawn (nose and eyes) are a definite indication of race. In the anime, the tone of their skin is also an indication; the oriental woman has 'yellower' darker skin and 'Marilyn Monroe' has the lighter white skin.

Roshi thinks the white girl is beautiful while the Asian is not at all beautiful. Maybe Toriyama preferred Caucasians...

I'm half asleep right now, but I don't really see the fat woman as looking "yellow" at all. She actually looks pinkish to me, which makes the attractive girl look yellowish in comparison. (EDIT: Oh wait, you said their skin in the anime. Durrr.)

Toriyama also draws a lot of fat people with squinty eyes, like Boo. Maybe they are supposed to be fat Asian stereotypes, but I always figured it was a sign of face fat obscuring their eyes.

Humans, Nemekians and Saiyans. :P That's the beauty of his art and style. He draws from all sorts cultural inspirations. One minute you are in an area with a heavy Asian influence(ranging from China, India and Japan) to a sprawling city were the characters look more western. I don't think he gave a fuck about specific race other then that's a human and that or there is a dog man.

Not necessarily.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

There are some posted on their facebook. So far I think the Mike Falconi one is the best. Hope the guy can master the track if he wins or hope they can find something more fitting.

They could always do that camera trick like what they did with Hagrid in Harry Potter.

Is it racist they made a black guy play piccolo ? Wait did they pick the asian dude from Dance Academy to play goku ?

I always considered Piccolo to be played by an middle eastern person, he felt more middle eastern in terms of culture than African to me.

That.

That youtube clip also sounds very professional with the audio quality of the guys speaking notably dropping and raising in quality as he speaks. Also lol @ that hokey Sokidan at the end.
Jord doesn't have a avatar because the combination of Jord and a equally cool avatar would cause the universe to implode.

The armor itself wont cost that much. If actually read the article you would know it is for reshoots, expenses and etc.

I'll be damned if they didn't know that the armors sucked before it even touching the actor's skin, much less shooting everything. Maybe they really just thought that they could fix it in post....but nobody can deny how sketchy this situation looks at this point.

Also, in the video he notes shooting new stuff for Vegeta and Nappa....what about Raditz? His was no better...

I don't think it's sketchy, just bad management. I admire their ambition and passion for this project but this is really turning into an expensive and time consuming trailer . At this point, I'd image investors walking away because they can't seem to get it together. We are already talking about 5 months of production and 3000+ going to waste if this is getting re-shot. Also, what's going to happen if they aren't happy a second time? Personally, if I were going to give them money I'd want to see what the armor looks like before they shoot again.

I get it, shit happens, and I'm sure losing their costume designer was probably damaging but you mean to tell me no one thought to look for better armor or maybe re-shooting some scenes while they had access to a green screen? Yea, it wouldn't be as authentic but it would get the job done. Again, we are talking about a trailer not a major film.

I have to say I was a little concerned upon seeing them ask for even more money and asked them why they didn't delay shooting if they knew the armour wasn't gonna be right rather than shoot anyway, decide it's terrible and then ask for even more money!

This is what they replied:
We had to go ahead with the shoot because we had already spent a large amount on the location, accommodation, food, hiring buses for travel. Things like that. Plus with over 20 people booked to shoot on those dates we pretty much had to shoot. To do these re-shoots we only need 3 of the actors and we don't need the accommodation as we only need one day of shooting.
