Spike Spiegel as Tenshinhan? That's pretty awesome. I could see that working.

Just felt like sharing:
I'm really glad this special went with more humor elements than it did action. Or at least it felt like that to me.

I threw together an extended list of thoughts at my blog. Kind of rambling, but WHAT DO YOU EXPECT THERE IS NEW DRAGONBALL HOLY #@)*$@#)^)#(@#&%#($!!!
http://savedbyatowel.com/2008/11/23/yo- ... d-friends/
I'll probably ratify it some as the day goes on and more information comes out. Also, thanks to those who are talking thus far about the special and making such great points-- hadn't even thought about WHY Tenshinhan wouldn't be appearing until being reminded of Hirotaka Suzuoki's passing, and such.
Man, today is awesome.

What, only Goku getting offense?
No, just more action/seriousness. I've been spoiled by DBZ

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Agreed! I can't believe Goku actually used that trick. He's so selfish

As funny as it was, I kinda felt cheated by it. When Goku and Vegeta first slowly started flying, I was like, "Oh hell yeah, some shit's about to go down!", and then...nothing but Goku being a first-class asshole.

I'd give a kidney for the dvd.
The special is taking a while to load...

Soooo true. Needs an ending theme song and some credits.

The bickering back and forth and turning everything into a competition between Goku and Vegeta was classic.

I'm still surprised they used the first opening and not the second.

Cha-La-Head-Cha-La is a lot more well-known than We Gotta Power.

So, would Daizex be averse to someone posting a direct download/torrent to the special once it appears? I can't get this browser to work for the life of me, I would gladly pay any price Toei/FUNi would charge for a DVD, I just want to watch this.
I watched the intro on youtube and started tearing up about forty seconds into it.

I also think it was for the nostalgia factor: "Ah, good ol' HEAD-CHA-LA, with shiny new animation!" and also because there wouldn't be much to change with the We Gotta Power! animation.

I was surprised, but it was a pleasant surprise. I mean, it is so well done, and it feels more respectful to the whole of the series.

Right now the site is probably getting hammered by viewers since it is now after 7 am in Japan. I am trying to watch the One Piece special now and it is really choppy, but a few hours ago when I watched the Dragon Ball special it played almost flawlessly (except for one hiccup).

They used Cha-La for the opening but they played the instrumental of We Gotta Power in the background at least 2 times.

I'm trying to watch it but it's absolutely too laggy to enjoy. I did happen to catch the new Cha La intro, with characters from later DBZ added in. I almost teared up.
Ugh, if only I had logged on earlier.

The funny thing about all this is, it's only the first day of it being streamed online. After a few days or weeks, it shouldn't be lagging for anyone lol.
