Re: Fan Works Explosion
I also had to take other character's ages into question as well. I forget the exact reasoning overall, but in the end 13 years just seemed to fit the best for most characters (since clearly they'd have to be a good amount older, but I also wouldn't have them getting too old just yet, kinda). It was something very tricky that I had to contemplate on for quite a while before I got started on it. That and they're not really a couple just yet in my story (just a very obvious build-up of Pan having a crush on him), so it's easily conceivable enough that she'd be 18 by the time they actually got serious about anything.

Re: Fan Works Explosion
Except in Japan, she is legal at 14. In Japan the age of sexual consent is 13 years old.TheGmGoken wrote:Why would't you just make it 14 years? Pan would be 18 and legal. Though if Toriyama made a husband for Pan. I think it would be a new character not an existing one.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Eh, Pan and Oob is a pairing that works pretty well IMO (barring the age issue that you kind of have to figure out how to play just right). The granddaughter of Goku and Goku's new pupil seems like the kind of thing Toriyama would have done...via timeskips of course, but it still feels legit.
The age thing is always a bit touchy though, yeah. It was part of the main concern with figuring out where to place my fanfic on the timeline, which is what led me to having it be thirteen years after the end of the manga, when Pan is 17 and Oob is 23. Still a little 'Ehh...' I'll admit, but it is what it is.
Anyway, good work Vertical.Picture looks great IMO.

Re: Fan Works Explosion
I rather see Pan have a boy friend that is a new original character then Uub or Trunks. At least Uub would make more sense then Trunks if they started dating in their 20's. Trunks is in his early 20's in GT and Pan is 9 in GT. Would you date someone in the 4th grade if you were in College? Ubb is at least five or four years older then Pan.

Introducing a new character then having he and Pan fall in love together instantly pretty much makes the new character the cliche romance plot device.Hellspawn28 wrote:I rather see Pan have a boy friend that is a new original character then Uub or Trunks. Uub makes much more sense to me personally as others have pointed out.

Not cliche just simple. Every couple was pair with new to old.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Hellspawn28 wrote:I rather see Pan have a boy friend that is a new original character then Uub or Trunks. Re: Fan Works Explosion
Yeah, but they weren't really hot-off-the-presses new. Vegeta we had gotten to know pretty well through two major story arcs before he was paired off to Bulma. Chi Chi was admittedly fairly new in her current form, but she still was a familiar face once it was revealed who she was. And by the time Gohan and Videl were truly paired together, we had gotten to know her somewhat well.TheGmGoken wrote:Not cliche just simple. Every couple was pair with new to old.

So yeah, someone new could be brought in for Pan, but it would need to be someone that we get to know at least a little bit beforehand, IMO. Not someone that exists purely for the sole sake of being her beau.

Re: Fan Works Explosion
The coupling just seemed like a natural progression that was inevitable.
Goku runs off with Uub
Pan ends up there regularly
Something akin to a childish rivalry (initially more Pan-sided considering this is the person that "stole" her grandfather) slowly becomes something... more... as they grow older/closer.
I didn't realize posting this would incite such a response.
If it helps, I envision Pan to be the dominant one in the relationship.

Don't worry about it Vertical, stuff almost always comes to a fierce debate around here. Don't take it personally.
Also, holy crap, did you just read my mind or something? That's...pretty much exactly what I've envisioned with my fic.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

I don't know if this is the right place to post it, but how would some of you recommend learning how to draw in Toriyama's DBZ style? Like doing repeated tutorials, drawing panels of comics from just sight, etc.?

I'm not exactly sure myself. I'm sure if you ask around youll get some answers from the artists of this forum though.superhuman3 wrote:I don't know if this is the right place to post it, but how would some of you recommend learning how to draw in Toriyama's DBZ style? Heres a little drawing of Pan giving her Grandpa some love. Don't you dare take that the wrong way...
