The latter. Enough with the overly verbose and boring confrontation where both fighters are looking the other one in the eyes for 5 minutes with the camera shifting to repetitive landscape scenery.Mewzard wrote:When it comes to Goku facing off against Bils (or however is appropriate to romanize it), what are you guys hoping for? Could you really see Fox paying big name stars for a DBZ animated movie? This movie is target to people who watch the show. I doubt most of the general movie goers in the US have watch DBZ or know anything about it. If it's going direct to video then having subbed only might not be a bad idea if they can't get the Funi voice cast back.AgitoZ wrote:Why would you think that?! I don't understand the problem. Destination Films used Animaze/ZRO Limit Productions to dub their release of the Cowboy Bebop movie, despite it not being a Bandai Entertainment release, so it shouldn't be too much a hassle for Fox to use Funimation. I mean, wouldn't big name actors be more expensive and alienate the devoted fanbase?

About the no-theater release; just because FOX doesn't want to do one doesn't mean that if Funi gets to dub it that Funi won't want to try one of their mini-theater showings like they did for fma and dbz in the past. A selection of major cities for one night only ala Funi's usual stuff. Sure it'll be the dub, and probably not til the fall, but at least it'd be something.

Pretty much this. If someone ask like Bruce Willis or Gordon-Levitt to voice characters for the movie then I would imagine that they would turn it down. I can see any big name actor taking a DBZ movie seriously.penguintruth wrote:I mean, wouldn't big name actors be more expensive and alienate the devoted fanbase?

Can you or anyone else point to me where it was confirmed that Fox was handling every single aspect of the stateside release? As far as I know they're just involved. Even then, why would they alienate so many potential buyers by having it being only subbed?Hellspawn28 wrote:Could you really see Fox paying big name stars for a DBZ animated movie? I would really like to know where everyone is getting their info to come to these outlandish conclusions. Due to so much speculation, opinions and minimal news mixed in this thread, it has honestly confused me and made me really want to stop checking this thread.

Toei isn't even going to bother broadcasting Kai in Japan, haven't they learned their lesson? The larger market for Dragon Ball is outside of Japan. To release a movie to theaters and not include a dub in the US is suicide. My guess is it has something to do with FUNimation and Fox not being able or not willing to work together. Toei knows releasing a dub in the US with Fox dub actors would flop at the box offices. I would personally rather see a subtitled version in US theaters then listen to a bunch of no-name Fox voice actors that no one knows or cares about at all. The only people that would appeal to is brand new fans. This has to be Fox's doing. (Fox is well known for screwing things up. ie. Firefly, Dark Angel, Family Guy, Futurama.) FUNimation turning down a chance to dub a theatrical release of the newest Dragon Ball Z movie sounds too outlandish to be true.AgitoZ wrote:Can you or anyone else point to me where it was confirmed that Fox was handling every single aspect of the stateside release? AAAAAAAAAAAnyways, I am sure whatever is to go down it will either be good or bad. Whoever made the post about the Cowboy Bebop movie having the same voice cast made it have perfect sense. Right now I wuold say we are at a 50/50 chance.

I wouldn't put too much weight into things Sean Schemmel says on Twitter. Or Facebook.

He is a contracted actor-for-hire who would never be privy to FUNimation's handling of anything. And the movie isn't even out in Japan yet. If anyone is dubbing it, they're most likely not working on it right now, and if they are, they're not going to tell you before its Japanese release.ultimateemail5000 wrote:I saw on Sean Schemmels twitter from 15 weeks ago that he doesn't have any high hopes for Funi to dub this movie. B has the right idea here.
You ask anime actors, they will all almost openly admit, they rarely know stuff they will be working on until they are working on it, especially if it's with a pre-existing cast that doesn't need to be cast.
One anime that was cast almost half a year ago, not a single actor has ANY idea when they start doing proper recording for the series.
Any actor saying stuff at this point is effectively talking out of their ass.
And I wouldn't honestly expect anything minus the smallest of the small theatrical release here in the USA if at all. A few small theaters and conventions, maybe a showing via Fathom or some independent distributor.
I recommend everyone take a deep breath. As we are getting closer to the Japanese release date with no full announcement for an English release, we are going to have more and more people giving 'opinions' as if they actually mean something, or people acting like they actually know stuff, when it's all just fog floating around in their head.
Also, AgitoZ and Craddle, both of you stop with the pissing match and stay on topic.

I don't care who dubs it, as long as they manage to stick to the original dialogue as closely as possible. I started watching Dragonball when it first aired on TV in the USA back in the 90's, and quickly discovered fan-subbed VHS tapes of the show, and after watching those I just couldn't go back to the dub again, the dialogue changes were too annoying.

Sentiments shared. It might not help, but part of that delay I'm sure is due to the holidays. Jump does those double-issues at the start and end of the year which causes weeks without Jump issues that slows down all Shueisha news in general. Still doesn't mean they shouldn't be unable to update the movie's official site though. We are only about two months away after all. The inevitable news dump/marketing blitz should be incredible once Shueisha's back from break.
On hiatus.

Don't know if pointed out already, but Kuririn appears to have dots on his forehead. Isn't that, along with SSJ Gohan, seemingly another contradiction to the series? Kuririn no longer had those dots neither in the Boo arc nor 10 years after that.
