Dragon Ball's situation is pretty wierd right because it seems it's Biggs who has the rights to the movies since December, so who knows, maybe they're trying to get them all and air them before getting BoG?FortuneSSJ wrote:Still surprising we get Crystal dubbed but not Kai...This world never made sense.
I hope Sic Radical airs the Buu arc subbed to finish it for good, at least. And I hope its a different story for super.
I always talk with the dubbers about the new stuff when I can. Last month talked to Cristina Cavalinhos (Bulma) but its up to the studios/channels not to them.

The same guy who's playing Tuxedo Kamen now also played him in the dub of the original series AND did both Seiya from Sailor Moon and Seiya from Saint Seiya. It is generally sloppy and badly made, but there are a few exceptions, this one so far being one of them. Makes me wish we had a dedicated (and strong) Dragon Ball fansite in Portugal like Sailor Moon Portugal is, they did a lot of butting in in this dub and had a bit of influence on some casting choices.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I'm sorry for butting in, I've heard a lot from you Mr! Maybe it was an angry Sub fan who put that misleading info LOL.
Yeah, he just didn't do Yamcha. Biggs aired Legend of Shenron on Christmas...That's was the last thing I was expecting to find when zapping.Quebaz wrote: Dragon Ball's situation is pretty wierd right because it seems it's Biggs who has the rights to the movies since December, so who knows, maybe they're trying to get them all and air them before getting BoG?
Talking to Cristina, I even went far to the point to ask, if back in the day, Antonio Semedo was responsible for we get the movies. Since he was the director and I always wonder if he would get anything if he was still with us.
Talking to Ricardo Spinola and Henrique Feist, all they said is that its very hard to bring the new stuff. Didn't seem interested either.
About Super, Joao Loy posted this on his facebook though. He thought the series was already here and other people started dubbing it

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Biggs already aired the first three DB movies. They first aired the third one yesterday, in fact.

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
Act 21 was 1st manga chapter (And first meeting with manga ever
) i've read back in 1998, so I'm glad how great that episode was, Usagi/NQS was such badass, ready to take out evil, instead of hiding in palace
My only nitpick, is censorship (No Demand killing little girl, and no rotten corpse in chamber with inners) while I'm very happy that Dragon Ball Super was announced, it make Crystal take hiatus even more certain
Toei already have lots of series.

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
Episode two aired. I think it wasn't as good as the first but still pretty nice.
Beryl's voice is pretty good (like a deeper Arukenimon from Digimon Adventure 02, same voice actress) and Jadeite has developed his voice a bit more (it's now softer). Too bad neither of the two can pronounce each other's name correctly (and it was something the 90's dub was capable of... well if we ignore the P instead of a B in Beryl
)... which makes me a bit scared for Mamoru's name drop later on.
Ami's voice is just perfect, and unlike Sailor Moon, her attack is translated differently, but the transformation call is still the same as the 90's.
As for Sailor Moon herself, this time they did the catchphrase with the entonation of the Japanese version ("Em nome da Lua vou... castigar-te!" instead of "Em nome da Lua... vou castigar-te!"). I think I like the first version a bit more (nostalgia probably).
The major con of this episode, besides "Jedite" and "Beríl", is something I am afraid will haunt the rest of dub: the lack of male voice actors. The conversation between two boys in the beginning of the episode, one being Mamoru's VA and the other Jadeite's summarizes this pretty well. I'm kinda scared for the moment the four Generals of the Dark Kingdom, as two are voiced by each of the two male voice actors.

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
I actually liked episode 2 MORE than the first. Ami's voice is just adorable, the attack was actually a translation (was honestly afraid they'd use 'espuma de sabão', which wouldn't make much sense with the Crystal animation as it looks nothing like soap bubbles), and I liked Beryl's voice. Only issue was the pronunciations of those two names. And intonation-wise, either of them is accurate because the Japanese doesn't have any word that directly matches the 'vou'. (tsuki ni kawatte [in the name of the moon]... oshioki yo [punishment]).

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
Gonna agree with Puto that I actually liked episode 2 more, Usagi here displays a more variety of tones (some of them that sound kinda close to Fernanda Figueiredo actually) and I don't think they could've gotten a better voice actress for Ami, she just sounds so adorable. Yeah both Jaedite and Beryl not able to pronounce each other's names are going to be a problem, I swear the way Jaedite said it it sounded like "Baril", which, is the exact opposite of what she is
Yep, it sounds really bad, Jaedite's actor is already doing 4 characters, if they're going to have him do random people as well, it's going to get old real fast, hopefully the studio realizes this and gets someone else (preferably Bruno Ferreira if they're going to bring someone form One Piece), but really this has been a problem with Anime dubbing since ever and it's more of a budget problem (which is I think the work Sailor Moon Portugal has done is amazing because they managed to get their voices heard).omegalucas wrote: The conversation between two boys in the beggining of the episode, one being Mamoru's VA and the other Jadeite's summarizes this pretty well. Probably the reason I liked the first more is because I watched that damn episode a bit too much yesterday and today

http://www.toei-animation.com/en/node/1550 Safe move, Sailor Moon was very popular in Poland back in the day, and was fairly uncensored (coompared to other countries at least, Classic finale was skipped, so did SuperS nun episode) and we even had Stars not too long after it finish airing in Japan. Seems Anime Eden aim for people who were kids back then, and now are adults and have their own jobs

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
Honestly, it's nice that Toei is remaking, revisiting, or anything that has to do with older franchises and bringing them back for a younger generation. My only problem is that it is Toei!
However, after catching up on Jojo since I took a hiatus after Part 3 ended, I would love to see David Productions (and being a branch from Warner, they have access to a much larger music library, seeing that they can use songs published under Warner without extra charge, cause you know, they own the songs) work on all the older series over Toei. I'd love to see David Productions work on a brand new Fist of the North Star, Dragonball Super, the new Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Sakigake Otokojuku, Devil Man, Violence Jack, Lupin, and many other classics! They have the budget, the resources, and the extensive music library. They also don't cheap out as much on animation compared to Toei (Jojo looks even better in Part 4).

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
I don't know why they wouldn't have done it in the past; there definitely would have been a market for it. They're obviously not going to do it now though, or anytime in the near future, because of Super.
She/her (I have a Twitter account now.)Cipher wrote:Dragon Ball is the story of a kind-hearted, excitable child who uses the power of friendship to improve those around him as he grows into a dangerous obsessive who sometimes accidentally saves the world.
Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
They changed Sailor Moon catchphrase, earlier it was "Ukarze cie w imieniu Ksiezyca" with translates to "In the name of the Moon, i will punish you" now it is "In the name of the Moon, you will be severly punished"

I'm glad kai wasn't a reanimation. Modern DBZ's animation doesn't suite Dragonball. Theold hand drawn animation was better. Now the people who drew High school dxd born di a good job, even though like modern dragonball, all the colors are done digitally.
