It's alright. They've eliminated the buzz you'd hear if you had headphones on but in terms of reducing the muffle by increasing the high end; it's nothing you couldn't replicate closely with something like VLC.

I personally don't think the difference is huge nor big enough of a pro to outweigh the visual cons.

I mean, if you somehow like what they've done to the footage then yeah, it's probably worth picking up.

Cheers, I wasn't aware of the cons in video quality so I'll stick with what I have.

If you happen to know Spanish or French then you can get yourself a much better release than these Season Blu-rays from FUNimation, of course this'd imply import from Europe and that might be troublesome if you're in US.

IIRC the French DBZ box has only French translated text, the FUNi DBZ Season BDs is English only and Spanish's DBZ Box is Spanish (and Japanese? I dunno).

Anyhow, with the ton of releases there are of Dragon Ball Z there's plenty for everyone's taste.

If you mean the video, the Spanish DVDs only have Japanese video. No Spanish title cards or credits or anything.

Many thanks for that, Puto.

The Spanish Dragon Box Z has its video remastered but despite being named "Dragon Box Z" it lacks the NEPs which are really cool to watch if available.

They're included as extras, at least in the previous release. I don't know about the new one, but I think so.

I've got a few questions. I'm sure some if not all have been answered but hey, this is a long thread.

Firstly, any word on how well these sets are selling? I don't want to start buying them only for them to cancel the release again!

Also, I've been thinking about getting them. To have DBZ on Blu-ray from start to finish is something I really want and these are really cheap for a lot of episodes. Does the overwhelming feeling from fans towards these sets lean more towards the positive or the negative?

Lastly, is there a great deal of difference between these and the Orange Bricks, quality wise? From what I've seen the characters always look quite good from stills and whatnot, but the backgrounds often look way too blurry.

They seem to be selling pretty well I'm confident they won't get canceled. As far as the quality goes they're alright if you just want the Dbz story I would recommend Kai but if your only interested in getting the original Z then the season blu rays are a cheap and in my opinion a better alternative to the Orange bricks. If you already own the orange bricks then it's really up to you to decide if they're worth it. The cropping is definitely better although some would argue that the digital pans look awkward, personally I'd rather have the ocasional awkward digital pan than have a straight center crop like the orange bricks. Again if you already own the orange bricks I would recommend Kai, it has better pacing, video, and audio quality. If your not sure go ahead and buy one and check it out.

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

Sadly, as far as I'm concerned, they seem to be selling well and probably won't be canceled.

Depends on which fans you're talking about. Reception is heavily mixed. A lot of people love them for teh awezomeness of HD without all that stupid grain and detail and tops and bottoms of the picture that get in the way! Likewise, a lot of people hate them for the way they butcher the visual presentation of the show and pass it off as if it's somehow an improvement rather than an insulting slap in the face with their collective dicks. There's really not a lot of in-between. I'm heavily biased in favor of the latter camp.

I do not think it's a quality release. It is better than the orange bricks, but the orange bricks were among the worst home video products I've ever seen in my life, so that's not saying much. They are very cheap, and you get what you pay for. But I would definitely recommend against them.

The so called 'remastering' on these new BD's looks like it came from a youtube user making an AMV.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

That's perfectly fine if you are making an AMV, not an official blu ray release.

That's why they're selling so well. That, and the price.

Or anything for Kai, which has a Blu-ray release that I'd actually WANT to buy...

Thanks for the replies guys, though I am still sat very much on the fence. I own the orange bricks, I also own the Kai blu-rays. Find myself asking whether I really need another release of Dragonball Z, but I can't help myself it seems. I have a problem.

I just know there will be probably another "superior" re-release straight after this one, that's the annoying thing!

If you already own the orange bricks and the Kai blu rays don't buy this release. Just wait for a possible higher quality release in the future. Kai looks much better than this release.

Yeah, the only reason anyone should buy this release is if they don't already have the orange bricks.
