I can see it now: Freeza brags about his further evolution. Everyone cowers as his aura flares and he screams... then when his aura stops flaring and he just sits and stares smugly, everyone is confused. Freeza wonders why they're not reacting. Oolong (because of course) says something along the lines of "Weren't you supposed to be transforming? Why'd you stop?". Freeza then gets pissed and yells at them while pointing at his chest.

I went to go check my old Jump Festa updates from 2012; we got a decent amount of plot-info from that (and HQ photos of tie-in figures). Interesting how they mentioned Whis creates new planets after Beerus blows the old ones up; that never gets brought up in the movie proper I don't think. Also anyone else remember when it was thought the party might be for Gohan and Videl's wedding? That would've been something. *Continues to scroll through old JF notes*.

If we get as much info on F at this year's Jump Festa, I think it'll satisfy for a good while.

Yep. It took him until his third try to finally win. Everyone around me was saying “I’m sure Goku will win in the end.” Even though I had wanted him to win, but since I’m perverse, when they said that to me I went “Like I’d let him win!” (laughs)

Do you make any use of such fan opinions in the original work?
I do, in the sense of “betraying the fans’ expectations”. For instance, when I got a lot of, “Don’t kill Vegeta,” I deliberately killed him. (laughs)

It gives genuine possibility to the idea of Freeza's new transformation being only his chest piece turning white, as opposed to some monstrous physical change in appearance.

I wouldn't be angry to find out that the chest went white. But something else bothers me... Frieza's didn't really change, still the fight in traile seems to be really fierce like never before. So what bothers me is that Frieza's aura is simply cyclamen in colour, and that doesn't suggest an evolution form/power. I'm not against simplfied transformations as God Goku was just like nomal Goku with only hair's colour changed, but his aura was vastly changed, it really suggested a big difference to former himself. An explanation should be that Frieza lost also his evolution form still remained with its power just like Goku did, so his aura doesn't need to be God-like. But I would not like this turn of events as it was already run down with Goku.

That would actually be great. Much better than Freeza getting a significantly different design and having to go through that nonsense again.

I find it unlikely that it's not his new transformation, because if it's not then both the animator and the toy designer messed up Freeza's appearance in the exact same way, and Freeza's able to hold his own against Goku with his fourth form.

Anyone else troubled that with more and more characters gaining new powers without the need to transform into visually different states that the entire concept of transformations will be ruined? I always liked to see the differences in appearence with transformation because I always considered it to be a strong visual reminder of just how far that character has evolved. Now I'm afraid that despite the vast power boost the fight between Goku and Frieza won't actually feel much different from the first time around on Namek.

Kaio-ken / Saiyajin arc
Ssj / Freeza arc
Ssj2 / Cell arc
Ssj3 / Buu arc

And then GT has ssj4.

Even BOG had ssjg Gokû (who I'm still not 100% certain will show up on F, despite the possible tease for it on the poster).

Transformations not only make a good visual, but make more potential merchandise to sell. Shiny and new, after all.

I think the choice to pull back on it is probably something personal to Toriyama. Maybe the transformations are now too flashy for him and the opposite of his gag-manga roots? I don't know. Arale wasn't flashy. Child Gokû wasn't either.

I still like transformations, but I can deal with if Toriyama really is done with them.
