Yeah, the Buu arc was when everything was pretty consistent when it needed to be. The Gotenks fight looked pretty bad, and so did some of the battles in the tournament as well as Majin Vegeta fight. Besides that, the Buu arc definitely had a lot of really solid artwork.
I agree.
On a side note is this Goku? At a glance I thought it was Gohan, but if it is Goku, what and why?

He and Vegeta are both security gaurds for a science awards event.

It's Goku in his bodyguard outfit.

I am liking the goku's bodyguard design. One of the better designs from yamamuro. Just wish the shine was removed :)

The animation supervisors can decide to join Dragon Ball Super if their schedule is free or their work on the other shows is finished. The series director and planner can decide to let additional supervisors or key animators to work on the show if they so desire. It's usually the schedule that plays the role in how a show is shaped up.
Dragon Soul was storyboarded and directed by Nagamine Tatsuya. Yamamuro, Shida and Gotou Yasunori. The openings for the Majin Buu arc were handled by Yamamuro as the storyboard artist and animation supervisor and possibly even all of the key animation. They're a fine example of his poor animation ability now.

The only shine is on Goku's hair and it fits since it's slicked back. Very interesting that Vegeta has no highlights on his hair despite all the recent Yamamuro designs for him having them.
Image
Yamamuro's full body shot of Vegeta with the suit looks way better than his BoG design from Yamamuro.
This along with him trying to do some dynamic stuff with that art piece in that magazine almost makes me wonder if he's actually trying to improve or something.

Yea, and also that white shine on the face makes the characters look like plastic. imo this character design of vegeta looks neat

Face shape and width are a lot more Z like in these new designs, here is a comparison with Yamamuro's BoG designs. There's also no shine on the skin, which is nice.

I really hope this is a sign of things to come.

That explains why I felt Dragon Soul was at least directed well. Has Nagamine Tatsuya done anything for Dragon Ball other than the Kai OP ?

Well. There's Shida. I just can't recognize it. In BoG Shida's style is pretty recognizable with his shading at first and the clouds. But I can't recognize him in the OP. Lol, Yammamuro sure have a divine power of correcting stuff

I must say I like a lot of the stuff Yamamuro's during here, the shading still isn't fantastic and still unexpressive, but at the very least they got rid of the highlights. It also makes sense for Goku's hair to be highlighted in the new design as well since he looks like he'll be gelling his hair.

The hair looks good too all black (except that one spot on Goku).

Episode 70
Looks like episode 15 style Yashima, I really hope he is reverting his style and this isn't just a corrected shot.
Also I think this might be the best Yamcha's looked in Super, he's generally pretty rough looking.

This looks like a Tsuji correction to me. But it still looks pretty good.

Possible. I'm on my phone so I can't see it all that well, but the nose reminded me of Yashima.
Now that I look at the face width I think you might be right.
Edit: I turned up the brightness on my phone and take back what I said about the nose, that's definitely Tsuji. I'm not going to make guesses on styles with my brightness all the way down on my phone again...

Yes! It would look good if the Yammamuro isn't there.

Yes! It seems like they will finally get rid of the shining effects.
I think this will buy them some extra time, cause it is time-consuming to draw them everytime.

Maybe i'm off, but could this be a decision from Kohei Hatano?
