So basically it comes down to these:

1. Burned out with the franchise
2. People leaving the fandom

Yup, pretty much. You can't run a ship alone, and you've got to dock some time. I don't want to be on the boat so long that I get sick of the sea.
(I don't know why I'm using ocean metaphors. ^^; )

Maybe sports would work better? I've entered double overtime. I'm in the middle of an extra inning. It's coming downgf to sudden death; that sort of thing.

You know a break may be all yiu need. I've been participating in the online db community for 13 years as well and when I started to feel that way id just put my obessiveness into something else that interested me for awhile. I took a break from probably 2006 until around the time the jump special came out and another one from around 2009 until about a year ago. I came back refreshed again. I also havent rewatched the dbz series since 2009 and db and gt probably since 2006. I am going to rewatch a lot of it after bog comes out and I am sure it will feel new again.

That may be so. It is possible I just need a break, as it isn't the series or characters at large that I've grown weary with, just the lack of new yet interesting-to-me stuff. I'll see how I'm doing after BOG is over.

same happened to me with One Piece and generally anime and manga in general. I can go open up a browser of the latest chapter but I don't care to read on. I want to be able to care, to feel an emotional investment but I can't.

They'll always be dear to me of course, in that they gave me great enjoyment for years. I'm more partial to Dragon Ball for the nostalgia and only reason I'm interested in it now is because it just got released here, there's Kai, this new movie since 17 years, so the first movie I will be sentient enough to see release - and production of an Ocean dub.

Maybe Vegeta knows Birusu but never knew how powerful he was. Or he met him but his memory of him was erased. Or he just knows OF him, just like he knows other vague legends that eventually turn out to be true.

Let's just hope we don't see a similar Vegeta that was scared for a whole movie.

I don't want him to be scared the whole time. If he's thrown by Birusu's arrival and can't quite handle it, I'd rather see panicked-yet-trying-to-come-up-with-a-plan Vegeta. He's shown preparing to attack something in the current trailer.

I'm still trying to figure out where smiley-face-Vegeta-toy fits in to all this. Is that just him having a bit of an emotional breakdown due to the common-sense-destroying Birusu's pulling off around him?

I've actually started to wonder if it's something similar to that maybe. I mean, Freeza knowing Bils, if he did, certainly creates some issues with his boasts of being the strongest, at first. But...what if they were just claims to begin with? Maybe, when Bils went to sleep, Freeza claimed it was because he killed him. So maybe part of his reputation was bunk to begin with?

Yeah they better not. Vegeta needs something that lets him shine in this movie, even if it is something as small as telling Goku how to beat Birisu. I would like to see a SSJ3 Vegeta and a SSJ3 Gogeta though.

Yeah, it makes sense if it's Oolong, notably for the clothes being different than what he wears in the film. We know Vegeta isn't at Bulma's party, Oolong must have seized this opportunity to abuse of Bulma like what he tried at night in the House-Wagon before Yamcha's attack.
