My main concern with Gohan's design is what happened to his muscle mass? rather than his attire, hair and glasses.

Gohan's body type changes all the time. For example, compare him at Orange Star High School to when he fought Dabura, and then to when he was training with Old Kai:

My head canon explanation for stuff like this is that the highest god of the dragon ball universe is Tori-Bot, and everything is dependent on his imagination and memory, so if he forgets how something is supposed to be or changes his mind about it, it just changes without explanation.

It's in the manga too, and is especially noticeable with Gohan post Cell. I'm surprised people are just noticing it now with this new movie.

He's always been skinny, outside of combat. It matches his official weight, too.

This is nothing new; Toriyama's art style has been like this for years.
Gohan was just as thin when drawn for Battle of Gods.

Looking at those again for comparison, the F Gohan drawing looks like he took more time with it than the BOG ones. No accidental wide-face here. :3

Also, shading! On the one in the sweat-suit at least. More effort this time; makes me want to see the rest. :3

I really love Son Gohan's new design, but I can't help but see Ittetsu Takeda from the Haikyū!! series whenever I look at him. I blame my brother for talking about it all the time. Gohan's and Takeda's personalities are extremely similar, but Takeda is really frail and weak.

Since it's from a game unrelated to the movie, as well as power obtained through Tōwa's messing with time, I'd say definitely not.

Sheesh.... Those frame shots put Fukkastu no F to shame thanks to Tadayoshi Yamamuro's skills as a character designer.

The xenoverse image makes a specific point about Frieza being stronger than he was in the regular series and hes the only villain who has a transformation. Cell and Buu aren't even mentioned on that poster. I think its weird

True, they aren't mentioned, but they do still appear next to Freeza, and are shown to be under the same dark influence as he is. Freeza's physical appearance also seems to be nothing more than his 100% Power state to me, aside from his eyes.

Xenoverse is a retread of Dragon Ball Online, and this is the same thing that happened to many characters in that game's story (possession, red eyes, power increase). It's nothing new or special, and has nothing to do with Revival of F.

I guess another reason "The Great Saiyaman" may be retired this time around is he already fought and defeated Freeza in Movie 12.

Actually, that entire mini-chunk of Movie 12 could easily be an abridged version of F. XD
Freeza is revived and does sick a huge number of minions on Gohan after all.


I think these Gohan drawings really are it for this month's issue; but luckily Jump Festa (and hopefully big plot info) is only 3 days away. :3

I know what we got at the 2013 Jump Festa for BOG was really nice:

-finalized WCF tie-in figures (minus ssjg Gokû because spoilers)
The following plot info:
---that the mysterious planet is Beerus and Whis' home
---Beerus' sleeping habits
---their home has lots of fish to eat
---Beerus is a "gourmet"/picky about what he destroys
---Beerus has a playful side to his personality
---things that were never used in the final film like after Beerus destroys a planet, Whis creates a new one
---Gokû and Vegeta skipped Bulma's birthday party because they were training (this was really vague at the time; I recall imagining they skipped out together when in fact they were independent choices. In Gokû's case, he simply forgot the party was that day)
---the editor and chief at Toei said they're keeping all info about Whis a secret atm
---Toriyama's motivations for getting involved in BOG were due to his dissatisfaction at DBE years back
---Toriyama, Watanabe, and others reworked BOG's script many times
---the location featured on BOG's poster being Bulma's birthday party
---Toriyama worked very hard on the script
---new trailer shown at the panel
