What's even worse are some people in the fanbase that actually think Goku in Super cares about nobody even though if you actually go over the Super anime, he's been shown caring for his friends more than some seem to think. Hell, he's had more father-son moments with Goten in Super than Vegeta has had with present Trunks.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Super Goku, actually has a job and provides for his family, constantly shown eating and hanging with his family, despite the fact he can just go and train whenever he still respects Chichi enough to ask for her permission even though Goku literally can just up and vanish.sintzu wrote:I think you're mistaking him for Super's Goku.Basako wrote:From being a funny and cool guy, he became a boring and disgusting man and a horrible father.
They just would need to take Goku and Vegeta out of the picture and there is no need lower down anything else. How? Well, that's what writing is about, it can be done.
This myth that Goku is a "lame father and husband" needs to f**king die.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
This seriously bugged me. I remember people on Reddit was talking about how much of a better father Vegeta was to Goku and Goku doesn't care about his family only fighting. I then pointed out that Goku works to provide for his family (even if it is forced) while Vegeta literally does nothing, not even household chores. I then asked them to tell me how many times we have seen Vegeta just hanging around Trunks outside of Episode 2 and compared that to how many times we have seen Goku be with his family, especially Goten who he actually takes to work with him.Jigurashi wrote: What's even worse are some people in the fanbase that actually think Goku in Super cares about nobody even though if you actually go over the Super anime, he's been shown caring for his friends more than some seem to think. I got the, "well, Goku is the main character so of course he got more scenes". I then pointed out that most of Super have been at at Vegeta's house, especially the Future Trunks Saga, and Vegeta has been a co-star next to Goku, so the 'main character and more scene time' doesn't really work. Vegeta was more of a father to Future Trunks than Kid Trunks who he barely talks to. He doesn't even try to train Kid Trunks despite him having the urge to fight, like why couldn't Vegeta spar with Trunks while Bulma was pregnant and he's forced to used the Pilaf Gang as his punching bag? In Episode 83 he was going to sneak out to train when he could have sparred with Trunks in the yard or something like Trunks was doing with Goten. Naturally, I got downvoted for pointed this out.
Point is, Super has shown Goku to be more fatherly than all of Z outside of Goku training Gohan in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and he was going to take Goten to train with him with Whis in Episode 97. The episode that fans often used to show that Vegeta is a better father since he wanted to say with Bulma. But for some reason, the only thing people remembers is Goku not understanding why Vegeta wanted to say with a pregnant Bulma, him forgetting about Gohan when Vegeta told him to take his son to the Zen'o matches, and falling asleep during Gohan's movie.
Of course, it doesn't help when Toyo who runs the official Super manga seems to hold this view of Goku to the point that Goku hasn't even talked to his sons in the manga since Battle of Gods and often talks crap about Gohan.

Exactly! In 100+ episodes Vegeta and Present Trunks have barley interacted, in fact apart #2 I can't really think of anything really substantial, Goku has constantly been seen with his family we've even had some cute moments like Goten sitting on top Goku has he does push ups. The Son family have a pretty close bond the Hit assassin episode where Goku is on edge is proof of that.Jigurashi wrote:What's even worse are some people in the fanbase that actually think Goku in Super cares about nobody even though if you actually go over the Super anime, he's been shown caring for his friends more than some seem to think. Toriyama's quote is blown out of proportions. What toriyama said was that goku does not have concept of family but instead he considers his family as close friends.Jigurashi wrote:What's even worse are some people in the fanbase that actually think Goku in Super cares about nobody even though if you actually go over the Super anime, he's been shown caring for his friends more than some seem to think. But some fans will ignore those moments because that doesn't make Goku look bad. I've said it before and I'll say it again, as far as the anime is concerned, Vegeta isn't really any better of a parent than Goku is. He's definitely a better husband, but a better father? Nothing he's done puts him over Goku as a father in the anime.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Exactly! Well that's cause some fans already have a certain view of Super's Goku, and completely disregard any of his good moments (he has tons of good moments in Super) in favor of just focusing on the bad ones, and either pretending like his good moments are few and far between (when they're not), they don't exist at all, or try and exaggerate his actions in Super and water down his actions in Z to make his actions in Z look better in comparison. You're free to dislike even hate the character, but Super has allowed me to see (especially recently) the double standards some people have for the character, as well as the fact that there's just as much unjustified hate he gets as there is justified criticism of the character.HeroR wrote:This seriously bugged me. Goku going full ham on Black and Zamasu after he revealed he killed Goten and Chi Chi and his troubled reaction when he told his own family about it shows that he really does care. He even had some nice scenes with Goten back at the beginning of the arc and he was understanding about Gohan missing the tournament in the U6 arc for his important conference. Goku isn't great at doing the whole father thing sometimes but that's hardly the same as not caring.Jigurashi wrote:What's even worse are some people in the fanbase that actually think Goku in Super cares about nobody even though if you actually go over the Super anime, he's been shown caring for his friends more than some seem to think. I wouldn't even call him a good father either. It's a character flaw that's harder to accept, family is still a pretty highly valued concept even in media . We expect and are used to seeing parents dedicate themselves fully to their children, see characters believe that family should come before anything else. There is definitely some magnification of that selfish side of his going on, but it rubs a lot of his fans the wrong way that the "worst dad ever" joke gets some official validation. Could be the vestiges of that more conventional hero-like version that many grew up with making this new one look worse by comparison.JulieYBM wrote:What does it matter whether Gokuu is a good dad or husband? Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
What makes this even funner, it wasn't even his family Black killed. It was an alternate version of them and he was still pissed off and he was still mad about despite seeing his own family safe. Just the idea that Black murdered any version of his family set him off to the point that he was going to murdered a down foe. He didn't even react that way with Freeza.BlueBasilisk wrote:Goku going full ham on Black and Zamasu after he revealed he killed Goten and Chi Chi and his troubled reaction when he told his own family about it shows that he really does care. I personally always saw Goku as mediocre. His heart is in the right place most of the time, even when his selfish desires take over, but he doesn't know what being a good parent is and treats his children like his best friends and equals (a big no-no for a parent).Jigurashi wrote: I wouldn't even call him a good father either. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
the problem with the next generation concept is that you can't replace the pre-established/developed ones expecting the audience to care about them if we don't even know what there personalities, quirks, likes, and dislikes and mentality are. This is why Boruto and Friends fails as a series and Boruto as a character cause we see no development (Edit, I Changed my mind on the Boruto Part and share the same points with JulieYBM) with him yet or his friends with the exception of Sarada. The Cell Saga And Super Anime nails this concept down Perfectly by not doing at all, by making Gohan And Future Trunks Main Cast Characters alongside with Goku and Vegeta you don't feel any change happening, all you feel is "oh these two dope developed characters fighting alongside there fathers is really cool and there character interactions with them make them feel so real yet interesting". Which resulted in Gohan and Future Trunks becoming the 3rd and 4th popular characters in the series because they are not trying to replace their fathers, all there trying to do is stand out to them, in there own unique, fun and different way!
This is also why Goten and Kid Trunks fail as characters sadly

Zamasu is the best DB villain besides Freeza (and this is only the case because the current Super arc elevated Freeza to be that good).
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
So it has nothing to do with Gokuu the fictional character. The fault lies within the viewer that exists in reality being unable to control their emotions and expand their narrow scope of the possibilities of the world and of the world of fiction?Michsi wrote:It's a character flaw that's harder to accept, family is still a pretty highly valued concept even in media . Sarada being the best part of the Boruto franchise aside, the Boruto character has been firmly established and developed in his television series. His resentment towards Naruto and the Hokage position is his major running arc, but he's also been shown on multiple occasions to care for his mom, little sister and friends. Heck, he wasn't even that close to the Class Rep, yet he still went out of his way to try and save her from her emotional self-destruction. In fact, I'd say that story arc calls back to how much Boruto hates change. Losing Sumire would disrupt the flow of his daily life, just as Naruto becoming Hokage disrupted it. For a character who keeps going on about how it's his era now and that the past generation is done for he sure doesn't like change. It's ironic.ssjprodigy wrote:the problem with the next generation concept is that you can't replace the pre-established/developed ones expecting the audience to care about them if we don't even know what there personalities, quirks, likes, and dislikes and mentality are. Still, the series needs more Sarada. I want to see her become the Ninth Hokage as soon as possible!
