Nooo! Every man's worst fear!

Thanks for the info, Wasted Wisher! I like the idea that they're going to incorperate bits of the backstory into the new version of Z. I always felt that Z's biggest downfall (filler not included) was that it felt incomplete on its own. Watching it on US TV a decade ago, it seemed strange to have a tri-clops and a midget mime pop out of nowhere. And while I love original DB, sometimes it feels like a long lead-in to the sheer excitement of Z.

By the way, here's a few things that will be in the upcoming first episode of DB-Kai:

- A brief look at the last moments of Bardock and Planet Vegeta
- An overview of young Goku's growing up years (Dragonball, the pre-Z period) up until his triumph over Piccolo at the Tenkaichi-Budokai.
- The all-too-brief and yet still somewhat triumphant return of FARMER WITH A SHOTGUN!

And sadly (although that really all depends on how you look at things...)
- Goku's winky has disappeared!

That's right, through the miracle of "we're just not gonna draw it anymore", Li'l Goku is no longer going to be allowed to show off "Even Littler Goku" on TV. But don't worry, they won't do anything so blatant as to digitize tighty-whiteys on him.
Poor lil Goku.

So if Saiya-jin no longer have human reproductive organs, how do Goku & Chi Chi/Vegeta & Bulma get it on?

Wasted Wisher:
Are they censoring violence as well?
And are they just re-using animation from bardock special to incorperate Planet Vegeta stuff?

I'm torn on this, I mean, if they do this, it surely means they practically will ignore DB enteriely, and not do a remastering of it, doesn't it?

Oolong would be pleased with this news. DBK doesn't have what he despises.

It could just be a really long last episode recap, only with the whole series instead of one episode. I'm sure if this does well enough they'll do Dragon Ball as well.

I'm kind of amused by this. I'm guessing restrictions on nudity have gotten tighter in Japan in recent years? (Not that Goku even really drops his pants often once he's an adult).

I'm curious as to see what the recap will look like; though I'm guessing it'll be spliced together footage from The Bardock Special and episodes of the original DB.
On hiatus.

I don't like where this is heading people! But still, April 5th can't come soon enough.

I made it from the scan, I just turned down the red then colored over the faded colors. That's what it should look like...

Anyway, the first episode looks like it'll be good, I knew it'd have DB retold quickly, but was doubting they'd do anything to do with Bardock.

Well, Akira Toriyama did like the Bardock special, didn't he?

Regardless, this is pretty exciting stuff happening. Can't wait until April 5....

Yeah, Toriyama included Burdock in a few panels of the manga, so technically, our wish that Toei will only be including canon manga material is still in the realm of possibility.

I'm getting so excited. Can't wait!

I think you're forgetting something:

THIS SHOW IS FOR KIDS.

And you know...um...

Some kids may not be completely familiar with all the events of the old series.

Anyway, this is definitely interesting. It seems like "Kai" is going to be a bastardization after all. Cut down not only in content, but in tone as well! And they obviously aren't cutting down on only their stuff, as the Bardock special will be the first thing we see.
Shiyonasan wrote: Well, Akira Toriyama did like the Bardock special, didn't he?
Toriyama is his own biggest critic. He loves what everyone else does, and hates what he does. By this logic, we should omit the entire manga....and only include the movies, TV specials, and....live action movie. ;)

You missed my point.

I was saying that this generation of 10 year-olds may not be completely familiar with a TV show that aired from 1986 to 1989, because 10 year-olds wouldn't be BORN yet.

I wonder what's the point of removing a bulge with a dot on it.

Dicks in Dragon Ball really aren't dicks at all. =/

That's what little boys weenies look like all the time in Anime, just look at Crayon Shin-chan or Gurren Lagann.

I don't mean this in any kind of pedo-pervy way, but Dragonball won't fill the same with Goku's winky.

I mean, that's usually the biggest thing I have to warn my american friends about when I first introduce them to the original!

Many of those inconsistencies are in the manga, too, so probably not.

Yes, yes I *know*.

I'm just saying why they are doing a stupid recap, dammit! =p

If they're gonna start at Z, then they're gonna have to explain what happened in DB, and it doesn't indicate anything about their plans for DB. That is all that I am saying. Am I just spouting gibberish here, or what? I don't know what I'm doing, but could people stop adding stuff to what I'm saying that I never said ever?

I'm not sure about nudity, but I know that flipping the bird doesn't seem to be allowed anymore. This happened in Samurai Champloo when the finger was blurred. Of course, I think there are breasts that aren't edited either. Honestly, I don't care about nudity edits though.
GT is underrated and the International Channel will always be my favorite channel for foreign programming. I still miss it.
