I'm such a nerd. But I marked out huge for this.
Re: Fan Works Explosion
I just realized that my DB gender bend art is pretty tame, so why not post on this thread too?

Um...tame might be an understatement considering how much I cringed at the results. Your drawings are nice though.
I started reading that manga. Really liking it actually.TheGmGoken wrote:

Thanks! But none of the characters are drawn overly sexulized here. Or are you saying that rule 63 isn't your thing?BlazingBarrrager wrote:Um...tame might be an understatement considering how much I cringed at the results. Your drawings are nice though.
I was going to ask, but what manga is this pages referring to? Who's the new kid?I started reading that manga. Really liking it actually.TheGmGoken wrote:

He's the main character of the series called Boku no Hero Academia, the manga that replaced Naruto's slot in Weekly Jump.Scarz wrote:Thanks! And I find rule 63 to be hilarious...most of the time.
Re: Fan Works Explosion
Hmm...that comic would've been more effective if Naruto had actually been his full grown self from Chapter #700. I did like that Gokuu was in the Kakashi role in that photo, though.

For that matter, why is Luffy shown as his part one self? I figured he'd be in his part two attire/look. Glad to finally know what the kid in the comic is from though - I kept guessing World Trigger for some reason.

She doesn't, it's baby fat. The same baby fat she really did have in episode 1 when we saw lil' Korra.DarkPrince_92 wrote:Why does she have a beer gut?

So out of the loop with Korra. Which is weird because I love the animation in it.

Ah that moment. I loved it, especially when she told everyone that she's the avatar and for people to deal with it.Gyt Kaliba wrote:She doesn't, it's baby fat. The same baby fat she really did have in episode 1 when we saw lil' Korra.DarkPrince_92 wrote:Why does she have a beer gut?

The Legend Of Korra is one of the best animated shows in the last 20 years. Although it's not as good as The Last Airbender, which is one of the greatest TV shows ever period, It's damn near flawless in its own regard.BlazingBarrrager wrote:Ah that moment. Nickelodeon can go fuck itself for how they treated the show. Granted they remedied it somewhat but it was still kind of ridiculous how they would change the timeslot for the show for no good reason and then proceed to yank it off the air mid-season. Although it wouldn't be nowhere near as bad as how Cartoon Network would treat the show if they had it. Chances are the show wouldn't even of had a fourth season.

Re: Fan Works Explosion
And that's my problem with how animation is treated in North America. Get a great series with a great plot, with some serious tone to it.... And it gets yanked.
Yet we still get countless seasons of trash comedy with the primary target of preteens and red necks. Countless seasons of unfunny, uninspired animation with shows like the Simpsons and Family Guy, cause animation is generally viewed as secondary to other productions.

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Re: Fan Works Explosion
I'm pretty much completely out of the loop in regards to Korra too, primarily because of what Nick did with it. I fell behind during the second book, then the mess went down with book three, and I just deleted it off my DVR. I'll check out the DVDs eventually though.
Preach, brother! It's even worse for things like Korra because they don't fit the traditional 'comedy' image that America generally treats it's animation as too. It's very rare for a US toon that's not based on a comic book to be made as such.Attitudefan wrote:And that's my problem with how animation is treated in North America. Re: Fan Works Explosion
I'm glad The last air bender wasn't treated like such. However little known fact was that there was supposed to be a movie for Zuko mother but Nick thought it was too serious and "dark" so they wasn't allowed to make it. Instead it turnt into a comic book. So no wonder Korra was taken off air.Attitudefan wrote:And that's my problem with how animation is treated in North America. There you have it. If it's to good(or outside the norm) then it'll be rejected. Fucking stupid if you ask me. I've read the Zuko mother comic books (very good read) and it wasn't dark at all. I guess Nick have their own version of dark. As the books were similarly toned as Korra. It was an amazing story. You guys HAVE to watch....I mean read it.

Re: Fan Works Explosion
That pretty sums up what happened to Young Justice, Samurai Jack and Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Its even more jarring in the case of Young Justice and Samurai Jack. Both of the shows won freaking Emmy's, got rave reviews, pulled in good ratings and still got canceled for no damn good. Young Justice though got it the worst though. Cancelled right in the middle of an epic storyline, and with Warner Brothers officially stating that they were not open to a third-party crowdfunding-campaign, the third season will never see the light of day. Fuck you Cartoon Network.Attitudefan wrote:And that's my problem with how animation is treated in North America. Get a great series with a great plot, with some serious tone to it.... Re: Fan Works Explosion
It's really just disappointing.
Just imagine the possibilities with all the great non Japanese comics out there that are dying to have a series created for them. Imagine if we treated our comics to cartoons like Japan. It would be unbelievable.
You guys should check out Cannon Busters. Some American animators asked for 120,000 dollars on kick starter to make an animation series heavily based on the Japanese anime style. They asked that amount for a pilot episode, and exceeded the amount by 30 thousand dollars. The director worked on anime overseas and while he was working on a few anime series, he was working on this project. This is a great opportunity for non Japanese, non Asian animators to have a shot at 2D, more serious in tone animation! The preview they had put up on kick starter had amazing animation, some of the best I have ever seen. I'm worried about stations picking it up however, since we know how non Japanese stations and corporations see serious, non comedy centered animation that needs loads of talent and money for it to be completed. The cancelation of Korra is a telling sign on the animation industry and how it's viewed. I'm optimistic, but worried.
