Look, I will say this. Despite my grievances about everything I feel they've failed to do for this game, from a pure mechanics standpoint it is going to be 10x better than XV1 was. It's faster, more polished, better hit detection, a bit more meat to the story (even if it's kind of a side-story to XV1), and I do feel very much that it will be functionally better than the first game with this healthy roster and reworked moves.
I do plan on getting it, just not right away and probably for PC. I'm not sold on getting a PS4 just to play it there with the PS4.5 coming out in the near future anyway, and it's just more cost effective to get a better PC that'll hold me for 10yrs than even the current-gen gaming consoles. And PC will have player-made mods, so that's always an extra bit of icing to an already tasty looking cake.
Really I think most of the community is waiting for post-release to hear what the gaming critics have to say as well as those first wave of buyers to give their thoughts and opinions after actually playing it. I really think that the hype for it will grow post-release, when we have something more substantial to talk about and give us a more comprehensive idea on both what they did right and what's left for them to improve on.

I sure hope you're being facetious, cuz you do have to level up to get those items and/or fly, they're not available from the start, as you start out walking first. Plus, and I hate to bring it up, but if a development team is focusing more on the gameplay and world, then yeah, some things will be cut short like the roster. Almost every fighting game is like this, hell, even the Budokai series didn't add much new characters in every game(as Budokai 2 added 10 and Budokai 3 added 6).Zelvin wrote:Which wouldn't be as much an issue, if some of the stuff they added wasn't just a gimmick to be used to shoehorn in microtransactions. All the transformations have pretty terrible names, but they at least made some semblance of sense and had logical progression until Super Saiyan 4 mucked things up in the GT continuity and Super Saiyan Blue years later in Super's.ArchedThunder wrote:"Blue" is no stupider than throwing a number after it or adding ultra to the beginning, and besides that Blue is the official in universe name, so they should use it.
However, I never said they shouldn't use Blue. I only said I'm glad they don't, and I will continue to stick with that opinion.

And I sure hope you're not defending that decision. Blocking off one of the most basic and well-known abilities in the entire franchise in order to make their gimmick out as some kind of reward is a scummy business practice. Bringing up earlier DBZ games doesn't help. Their rosters were limited to what had appeared in the show and movies. And Budokai 3 did have you flying around the entire overworld picking fights and finding items and dragonballs.EXBadguy wrote: I sure hope you're being facetious, cuz you do have to level up to get those items and/or fly, they're not available from the start, as you start out walking first. Btw, those mechanics changed and improved with each game. Budokai 3 is still probably one of the best DBZ games of all time. The fact is that Dimps is borrowing too many of the worst practices from MMO's. I can get wanting to have an RPG-style leveling system. But walling off Flight in the Hub City just to try and sell the idea of hoverboards, is a horrible idea.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
To be clear, I'm fine with SSGSS being used in that it's still an official name - it's still used on and in official products, so it's hardly a fan-created name or a dub only term or anything like that. It's just as official as SSB is.
I just wish they'd actually pick one and stick with it, to steamline things basically. And if I had to pick between the two, I'd go with Blue personally simply because it's actually been used in-series, and because it's less of a mouthful than Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is. But that's just me.
Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but really it's just such a shame they (Toriyama and Toei both) didn't realize at the time where they would ultimately be going, and couldn't have just gone with Saiyan God and Super Saiyan God, but again, hindsight.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
What does that have to do with business practice? Business practice is when Dimps pulls out a Capcom by making us pay for Day 1 DLC/Disc Locked Content for the hoverboards, something that Dimps and NB aren't doing(thank god). If you don't like it that flying requires level up, that's fine, but calling it part of business practice when we aren't gonna pay for flight? No way.Zelvin wrote: And I sure hope you're not defending that decision. Do they announce everything that's in the DLC before the game's released? Of course not. And this is how things start. It's something small so you don't think much about it, and then they keep adding slowly so you don't realize it's becoming P2W.Shin wrote: Are you implying that hoverboards are in only in the game for just micro-transactions and not for player progression? You missed what was being said. It's a gimmick that serves no purpose other than to force the player community to acquire them, first as a necessity and then as trophies to other players. And like trophies in games, the best ones are Bought. You can get the same functionality by just increasing running speed. It is a bad idea taken from MMO's. The moment you can fly in the city, the hover boards become irrelevant except as Status Symbols. The same goes for any kind of mount in MMO's. And if you want the best ones, then you're going to Pay for them.ArchedThunder wrote: What are you even talking about??? How is having people play the game to unlock stuff a scummy business practice? I am going to hold them guilty of this practice until the game proves itself innocent. I'd rather be surprised that XV2 won't become a microtransaction hell hole than be proven right and watch as interest for the game plummets because of such scummy money-grubbing corporate practices.

By the time DLC is announced/released the majority of the game's player base will be flying I assure you. Releasing additional hoverboards for the sake of "P2W" would be a waste of their time and no one would even purchase it. It's VERY clear that their purpose in the game is just for player progression.Zelvin wrote:Do they announce everything that's in the DLC before the game's released? Of course not. I use Super Saiyan Blue/SSJB because that's the in-universe name and it's easier to say/type than Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan or SSGSS (which I inconsistently use over SSJGSSJ
), but I actually quite like them both. Still curious why everything except the main product uses SSGSS, though. I get that Mr. Toriyama named it that, but still, it's odd.
Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
I'm right there with you, bro. The complaining has gotten a little out of hand as of late. The character list isn't great, but there are a lot of other great new features to the game. Plus they are primarily focused on your created character and going through the story. More characters will be added via DLC, and I was willing to pay for the season pass. If you have fun playing the game, then it's worth it. If you don't think you're gonna have a good time, then don't get it. I haven't stepped one foot off the hype train and I already know I won't be disappointed. And give the feedback when it counts. They have been listening. Ask for more characters, more levels, put it all out there. Some of it is going to make it in via DLC. But the fact that we have folks talking about XV3 before XV2 has even hit the shelf is crazy.Anime Kitten wrote:I understand, and I fully encourage criticism, but there's been almost no optimism over the past few weeks. I don't believe Dimps can afford that while working under Bandai/Namco.

I only wish the Time Breaker versions looked different. Kinda like Bardock and Vegeta? Something other than a colorswap.

I'm just being very critical of what they may or may not do. I want them to succeed, I really do. But I never expected some of my favorite JRPG's from the last five years to have microtransactions and other garbage...up until it all showed up in the online stores with things like cosmetics, extra items, special weapons and equipment, and other things that instead of being earned and acquired through playing the game, could only be achieved by Paying for them. It really wasn't all that long ago when unlocking costumes and special items in game was an actual Reward. When hunting them down and finding the secret locations or discovering the cheat-codes hidden in the games to unlock them was an actual challenge and that it was FUN! And yet that very thing has been sorely lacking in the last two console generations. The moment online adaptability and gameplay became mainstream, that's when everything that used to be placed and hidden in games for the players to discover was instead nailed to a wall out in the open for all to see...but not to touch. Okay, I'm right there with you on the stance of microtransactions, but I don't see how this can be applied to Xenoverse 2 when they've already stated what their DLC plan consists of: Characters, stages, CaC items, and... that's it. Alongside free content updates as well. I assure you mate, it's not what you're assuming it will become.Zelvin wrote:I'm just being very critical of what they may or may not do.
